The white furred tom was the size of an apprentice, but prowled after the snake like it were as easy as hunting a mouse. The moonlight glittered silvery shadows across his pelt like fluffy starlight. Breathing in a final breath of hot air he burst forward at the snake. He body slammed into the snake ensuring his fangs snagged repetitively across the higher end of the snake closest to the head. The entire time he was soundless, never uttering a snarl or a single primal sound. His killer blow was silent, his victims hiss was quieter than a wings flutter. Normally this would be a proud moment for any SunClan cat, but he wasn't a SunClan cat, he was the infamous prey thief bothering the nation of clans with missing pieces of prey. Never caught and as described he wore a black feathered mask with bright as lightning green eyes.
He picked up the dead snake by the head deciding to be better safe than sorry. If the snake was alive he'd hold its jaw down in his own and crush its brain with his fangs. Now all that was left was to head home, wherever he was... In all truthfulness he'd done this so much he didn't even remember what territory he was on, it didn't matter, night was night, they all were asleep. Well except for NightClan as he learned. Whitley decided to head towards the open land figuring that was where he must have come in as it looked the most familiar.

Echowish had been following this stranger for some time, her soft grey fur seeming to gently glow in the moonlight as she moved gracefully through the grass. Surprisingly enough, the young she-cat had in fact witnessed this cat hunting on her territory for some time, even going out of her way to sneak out of camp to watch him as he hunted. He had a... unique style to his technique that quite surprised her in many ways. Plus she could not help but find herself curious about what lay hidden behind that mask of his. He was a mysterious cat that every part of her couldn't help but feel the urge to want to unravel and study closely...
The stillness of the air kept her at a disadvantage, especially when the strange tom turnes having decided to go in another direction suddenly. It alarmed her as his pawsteps carried hom towards her exact position causing her to panic and step back...breaking a twig in the process. "Eeep," she spoke softly, her blue eyes gazing him to meet the gaze of the stranger's as she found herself getting caught.
The tom tensed up and with hawk eye reflexes turned his emerald gaze directly to her. For a moment he stood there studying her, wondering if she'd whip around and attack him, but she didn't seem to make a move to. The snake dropped out of his mouth as he gingerly moved his paw to roll it into a loop to better hang onto its whole body, "It wasn't my intention for you to see me," He said while he situated the snake, "But since you have seen me I'll let you know now that if you attack, I'll outrun you and if I can't outrun you I have other means," He said, his words didn't come out sly as expected, but more playful and charming.
Once he slid the snake in a loop he went to pick it up again, but just as he anticipated the snake still had some bite in it and coiled back striking him across the cheek. He quickly slashed the snakes across the head killing it this time, but was almost certain it was venomous. He touched his cheek, "Well I have to go back home and not die now so I guess I'll be on my way," He said picking up the snake.

The she-cat seemed taken aback by the closeness of this tom's emerald gaze, amazed by his ability to take on the snake despite seeming to not be from one of the clans in the territory... well that amazement turned into horror as she realized the snake was still alive.
Echowish could only watch in alarm as the snake struck at the tom, "Look out!" she cried out only to have witnessed him kill the snake soon after. Without hesitation she immediately approached him, but showed no signs of hostility as she stood there frantically looking at his cheek. "Didn't your mother ever teach you never to play with your food!" she scolded, "Anyway you won't be running anywhere, you need to lay down and let me treat your injury. With any luck the snake may have not had enough time to properly inject you with it's venom seeing that you are still standing."
Standing next to him it was easy to tell he was the age of an apprentice by his height, "Well-" He started to say, but shut his mouth when she ordered him to lie down for treatment. If there was one universal thing he knew with absolute positivity it was to never talk back to a healer. He wasn't certain that she was, but she claimed to know how to treat him and also didn't immediately try to strike him so it seemed to make sense in his head. Still he had healers at home... He looked to the skies, it was still dark out, there wasn't a band of pink dawn to be seen, he had time.
"As you command, m'lady," He said, lying down before her surprisingly willingly. He watched as the clouds moved over head sending moonlight dancing across the she-cats pelt, it looked like stars winking in and out to him. It was a pretty thing when he hardly spent time looking up at the sky, "I'm Whitley, by the way. I uh, basically hunt dangerous animals off other peoples territories. Most of the time cats wouldn't even consider it prey so really I'm doing a favor," he said even though that wasn't true and he just happened to hunt a snake this time. Usually he'd take whatever he could from any clan he noticed that had an abundance of prey that wouldn't be missed. He stayed away from territories like WinterClan and Absum Lux that hardly had enough for themselves.

The young she-cat would appear about the same age as him. Despite having her warrior name she was fairly young as it was a custom for a Soothsayer Promised to receive their warrior name upon promotion. She knew enough about healing to practice even despite her path of a Soothsayer as she wanted to be a reliable member of her clan in more ways than one. In fact her hopes were originally to grow to become the next priestess, but the likelyhood of that happening seemed off the table. She was close to Twilightbell and in all honesty that was enough for her. Hearing the words m'lady caused Echowish to grow self-conscious for a moment, even mildly flustered. When he introduced himself, she did her best to meet his gaze with confidence.
"My name is Echowish, I'm the Soothsayer Promised for SunClan. While I am happy for the protection you offer my clanmates, that still isn't an excuse to be as reckless as you were. What if the snake killed you, don't you think about that? There is a reason why the clan cats in this region AVOID snakes not running off to find them!" For her it felt strange sitting here beside this unknown tom like a protective mate or parent scolding him about his actions... but still who else would tell him? Every part of her felt as if she wanted to get angry at this cat for worrying her as he did... even though they had never met before.
Moving closer to him she gently applied licks to the would to clear away the blood, taking closer look at the injury with the moonlight as her guide. "It doesn't look like the snake had gotten in too far from the bite, still I can only imagine how painful this may get if you take off running. Please remain here while I get some herbs for the wound, you need to stay as still as possible."
I stole prey from SunClan, don't they have a God? Will he hunt me down or will they?
He tilted his head up regaining his composure, it's cool. He'd just- When he lifted his head up she was already leaving to get the herbs. Alright, alright.... Everything would be okay, she's a healer and he was... Was currently an absolute enemy of SunClan and his dad would kill him if the rest of his family didn't first. Somehow he was going to have to sneak past everyone, get rid of the scent and hope that Echowish didn't betray him and bring back a bunch of SunClan cats and get unmasked.
Some time past, it almost seeming like moons before the young promised returned with a massive leaf wrap in her jaws. Setting it down in front of him she let out a sigh of relief, "I'm happy you didn't flee from here... you're likely afraid about the Sun God judging by your expression. Well if you give that snake you killed to me as a gift surely you have nothing to fear?" she suggested as her soft white paws pulled away a set of roots and orange colored flowers from her herb pile. The young cat would begin picking up some of the plants into her mouth and beginning to chew, in the meantime spreading out what appeared to be a bundle of cobwebs across her leaf.
After a few moments she would spit out the tangy substance into her paw, "Don't move this will sting a little, it's snake root which should extract any poison the snake may have injected you with. I also added some marigold to prevent infection... I promise I only want to help you, will you trust me?"
When she came back he had lied his chin down onto the ground, but perked up seeing her coming up in the distance. He nudged the snake with his paw, clan cats didn't usually eat snake, what if she didn't like it and always had a bad taste in her mouth when thinking about this moment? He looked up at her and his eyes glinted with a determined gaze, "I always trust a healer. Unless of course you give me this and I knock out and wake up imprisoned for life, that might put a slight strain on our relationship."
He forced himself to remain still for her even if it was at his neck, "When all of this is over I'll take the snake tonight, and tomorrow night return with something better for you. On my honor," He said placing a paw over his heart, "After all, you're a toothsayer, I can't let the Sun God think I'm being cheap with you by giving you a mere snake for possibly saving my life."
He had no idea it was really soothsayer, his mind had been racing at the time when she introduced herself. He did find himself repeating her name in his mind though, Echowish, that sounded beautiful, like no name he'd ever heard. It reminded him of a wish made that could never go away even when it truly was gone. It was a name that sounded like eternity.

The she-cat focused on her task, applying the poultice on his face with those soft paws of hers. The sting would be mild, but something about the way she would apply it would prevent the pain from lasting more than a moment. "Do not worry, while the snakeroot may make you a little drowsy, the effects are more because of the encouragement it places on your body to fight off the poison rather than the actual herb itself. With a good night's rest and a watchful eye on your health you should be fine. I do want you to make more of this poultrice every night for next two nights using the extra roots I gathered for you... Again while I do not think much of the snake's venom was injected into your wound, it's better to be safe then sorry..."
A mild giggle escaped her as she listened to him speak of the snake, unable to help but find amusement in the way he spoke of her title, "Soothsayer is the true way to say it, and I suppose I have to look forward to your offering. In that case accept this snake as a gift from myself...despite how violent it happened to be."
When she finished apply the gooey substance, she collected her cobwebs and placed them over the injury to keep everything in place. For a moment her thoughts drifted to the mask he wore, her mind curious to his reasoning for wearing it. The young she-cat would hesitate before focusing on such questions. It wasn't fair for her to ask so much information of him... especially when this may be the last time she would ever see him again. Her heart's joy dimmed at the thought though she didn't quite realize why. "Why do you keep the clans safe from things such as snakes?"
She wasn't kidding, he was already feeling tuckered out and still had a long walk to head home. Would it be so bad if he slept there? No! He couldn't stay, he bit his tongue trying to keep his eyes from getting too drowsy. His mentor might not be strict, but there were plenty more observant members who would be able to tell he was up to no good and he didn't need to try to escape a length interrogation. Plus he had a good boy representation to keep up among his peers, one that he genuinely cared to keep in tact for his families image.
"Oh soothsayer," He said sleepily with a lazy smile hanging off the edge of his lip, "I like calling you Echowish better, not that titles aren't important, it just really sounds like a beautiful name."
He had to think for a moment when she asked her next question, he almost idiotically asked out loud what she meant by hunting snakes for clans when he remembered his lie. Whitley after all was a nickname people gave him after they misheard the code name he tried to go by, White Lie, he told them quite frequently, "Oh I do it to help the clans, but also my family. We don't have enough people out hunting so I try to venture elsewhere to find food so everyone can eat. A lot of us soldier types don't get to eat most days, so I kind of do this for the troops back home. Since I started doing it no one's had to go to bed hungry," He said giving more information than he intended, but was so tired at this point he hadn't noticed how much he had given away to her.
He got up on shaky paws, "Whoa," He laughed, "Jeez, I'm such a lightweight, no surprise I guess. It's cool, I'll just slumber in an old badgers den or something," he said reassuringly with the least bit reassuring wording. His gaze managed to fixate on her and seemed more focused this time, "Hey," He said placing a white paw over hers feeling the same pull of sadness that they might not meet again, that she might not want to see him again, "You have the kind of rare smile I can't resist, so don't worry, tomorrow night I'll be right here, dark and late, with prey straight from a dream and flavors you've never tasted. And me, of course so tonight you're treating me, but tomorrow night I'm returning the favor."
His paws were about to lead him away when the gnawing feeling got at him, what if she wouldn't meet him again? It felt selfish, but he never met someone that he wanted to talk to for hours before. He had to see her again. He delicately plucked out a black feather from his mask dropping it onto the ground as he padded away a little only to turn back around as he walked backwards, "And oh no, my feather fell, my favorite black feather. It looks like you'll definitely have to meet me here tomorrow night to return it, it's too far away from me now," He said with mock concern, a boyish teasing smile slid across his lips as he looked at her one last time before turning around.

The she-cat's fur warmed at the compliment, her eyes meeting his with an expression of yearning when he whispered her name. Gently gathering the herbs into the leaf packet she made for him, every part of her wanted to ask him to stay with her, part because of her own worries about the drowsiness of his medicine...the other part something else.
When listening to his story, her gaze filled with intrigue having not heard of such terms as 'soldier' or 'troops'. She was quite curious of where his home was and what it could possibly be like as it already sounded much different then her own. Upon the mentioning of hunger her gaze grew worried again, promising herself that she would check in on him in the morning wherever he decided to set up camp for the night. Even if he didn't want to see her again...could he blame her as a healer for wanted to make sure her patient was safe? Surely she couldn't take him home, every part of her doubted he would want to return to SunClan anyway given his appearance. A spark of envy surfaced within her, the thirst for freedom to travel away from her home rising in her chest. Immediately she shook her head, her place was here with her own people. She couldn't afford to be apart from them for too long even for such an... interesting tom.
Her body found itself automatically moving forward to steadying Whitley as he stood, using her weight to help him balance himself until he managed to stay still. "Please be careful, you're hurt yourself if you rush yourself!" she scolded, letting out a worried sigh when she pulled away. Was this truly goodbye? It surprised her when he touched his paw to her own, causing her heart to flutter with joy as her own gaze met his, "I promise... I'll meet you at moon high right here. I better see that poultice on your face or otherwise bring me the herbs and I'll put it on you again. I want to make sure you are healing up okay." Every part of her remained hopeful as the tom padded away towards the darkness of the forest, watching in surprise as one of the feathers from his mask fell down behind him. Quickly she moved forward and picked it up in her jaws, ready to attempt returning in to him before he responded with his statement. A gentle giggle would sound from her, why was it so easy for him to make her laugh? She nodded quickly as she watched him pad away, continuing to watch him go like a guardian in the distance.
Whitley slicked back the long tufts of fur of fur cast over his eyes smoothing them back over his forehead before placing the black feather mask over his eyes fitting it into place. Back home he was the good boy heart throb with the perfect hunting score, out here he could be an anxious mess and overly cocky cause there was no one to impress, but now. He wanted to go back to being mr. perfect only to realize who he was around her was an anxious mess that only had his arrogance and lies as compensation. He was worried he fell short of her and even more worried that it wasn't his anxieties talking and that he was right. He pushed past his insecurities, regardless of how he acted around her, he owed her a good night.
Whitley had chosen his prey of choice to be a small turkey that he had managed to drag all the way to SunClan. It wasn't an easy catch, but an incredibly delicious bird with plenty of meat to spare so he figured that would make things up with her... And probably her God. If he failed he figured the Sun God would give him a sign like getting struck by fire? He didn't actually know how that worked, but he was pretty sure she'd like the turkey and that was what mattered. And if he could somehow find a way to see her a third, maybe a fourth and fiftieth time would also be great. Somehow he had plenty of cats his age where he lived to hang around and talk with for hours and all he thought of yesterday was how excited he was to leave home and hangout with her for another night.

Echowish herself was growing weary as she padded out on her own from her camp, doing her best not to wake the Janus's from their slumber. Padding around the corner from just outside, she picked up a bundle of herbs she had hidden away in order to prevent any sort of suspicion. On this very day, she spent a majority of the day gathering different herbs from the territory doing her very best to make sure to gather the easiest ones for Whitley to take home. 'Whitley...' her thoughts wandered, suddenly becoming anxious. She had left him on his own with a snake bite to the face, had he been okay after the event? Did he make sure to take the medicine as she instructed? Padding out towards the edge of the territory, her thoughts were overwhelmed with possible scenarios of him to have wandered into. What if a fox was looking for potential easy prey and had found him while he was asleep? What if he mistakenly swallowed the snake root rather than applied it to his face as she instructed? She had not even noticed she arrived when she was shaking her head attempting to right her everlasting fears she had over his safety.
"My dear Sun God, I understand that he is not one of our cats, but please watch over him."
