Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Found at the base of a hill in the middle of their territory, the camp is a pretty clearing surrounded by a protective wall of brambles, flowering undergrowth, and a few sheltering trees. The wall has been interwoven with leaves, both to strengthen it and keep out the chilly wind from the meadows, and for looks; with the introduction of the Ceremony of the Leaves, they are as important to the Clan as ever, for symbolic purposes and for appearances. The Clan often decorates the camp with flowers from the wildflower meadow, weaving them into the den walls and gifting them to each other.
There is one small entrance to the camp, through a prickly gorse tunnel that flowers bright yellow in greenleaf. The camp is beautiful and sunny during the day, with dandelions sprinkled around during newleaf and leaves fluttering overhead. A creek runs down the hill past the camp and joins the river; on a quiet day, all you can hear is gentle birdsong, the rustling of the leaves, the burble of the creek, and the breeze through the tall grass beyond, and during greenleaf and newleaf, the world is alive with the soft scents of the wildflower meadow.

Situated near the entrance to the camp, the warrior's den is placed to best be able to defend the rest of the Clan from any unwanted guests. Nests are lined with feathers and soft grass from the meadows and decorated with flowers and leaves as the individual warriors see fit. The den has a sweet scent of herbs and pollen.
LOCATION: the den nearest to the camp entrance appearance: a tangle of yellow-specked gorse and wild blackberry bushes
Opposite the warrior's den and the second closest to the camp entrance is the leader's den. After becoming leader, Doestar moved his den from Ravenstar's previous one and left the the hollow tree stump, laden with overhanging lichen and moss, for the use of the Clan, particularly kits and queens. The new one lies in a crack in the trunk of an old beech tree; the tree was there long before the camp was established and previous generations of SummerClan cats simply crafted the protective wall either side of the trunk, leaving half the tree inside the camp and half of it outside it. A small copse of mandarin trees, planted by twolegs long ago, lies close around the beech, lending the surrounding area a sweet citrus scent.
The inside of the den is decorated with dried flowers from the wildflower meadow that Doestar dries in the sun on the earth outside his den - marigold, daisies, bluebells, forget-me-nots - as well as rosemary and lavender; the outside of the den features a few twoleg houseplants in pretty terracotta pots that he found abandoned and left to overgrow at the edge of the territory, giving the den a little added privacy with their leaves. His nest is lined with an apricot-coloured blanket he was gifted by a kittypet friend.

SummerClan's territory is a beautiful blend of fields, wildflower meadows, and woodland; a waterfall lies at a ridge stretching through part of the territory, and a lake can be found at the border shared with SpringClan, complete with a pretty tree-lined beach.
A long river winds through the land, separating the forests and hills from the rabbit meadows; several creeks flow into it, and it meets eventually with the lake. The rabbit meadows are a vast expanse of wild fieldland that makes up 1/3 of SummerClan territory; it's often windy, particularly during leafbare, and the openness of the meadows are to thank for SummerClan's reputation as quick and skilled hunters - but watch out for foxes and badgers lurking in abandoned rabbit warrens!
Just beyond the lake beach, the trees give way to a large and beautiful meadow full of wildflowers; this is where the medicine cats gather most of their herbs, and is a lovely place to simply spent an afternoon. Beware the seasonal allergies, though!
During greenleaf, the territory is dry and golden - tall, prickly grass, the smell of hot, sun-baked earth, fields full of clover, and a world full of flowers of every colour imaginable. In leafbare, though cold winds blow down from the WinterClan mountains and across from the rabbit meadows, and though SummerClan is exposed to the harsher elements, the majority of their trees are evergreens, leaving the territory green, summery, and with a dry appearance during even the colder moons. There's still plenty of snow, though!

the rabbit meadow
The rabbit meadow makes up a huge percentage of SummerClan's territory - on one side of the long river, there are valleys, forests, and hills; on the other side, there's the rabbit meadow.
It's a vast, open space of tall grass and the occasional small pine tree, fallen log, thin stream, and pond. You'll occasionally find deer grazing here, too; they look like beautiful ghosts when they leap through the early morning mist. Wild thyme and rosemary grow well here, and you'll often find little brown butterflies fluttering through the grass, gorse and heather.
LOCATION: west of the camp; stretches all the way from the southern border to the lake and the gathering place beyond appearance: wild moorland and marsh, a few pines and small ponds
the gentle lands
The vast majority of SummerClan's territory: moors, gentle slopes, and plenty of flowers. Golden grass, golden earth, golden sunlight - that's SummerClan.
LOCATION: most of the territory appearance: open, golden moors
the deep lands
Though most of SummerClan's territory is meadow and moorland, there are patches of forest, mainly pine and more often than not filled with soft sunshine and wildflowers; there's rarely a place in the territory that is ever entirely gloomy.
Occasionally, there is the odd other species of tree, mainly oak, birch, and beech, particularly in the older parts of the territory where the old-growth plants lie.
LOCATION: scattered throughout the territory, namely on the edge of the wildflower meadow, just outside the camp near the hill, and by the waterfall appearance: light, airy pine forests with flower-rich undergrowth
the soft lands
The border between the meadows and the forests; soft, sparse, and filled with drifting pollen. It feels truly magical.
LOCATION: same as above; also by the giant redwood and on the edge of summerclan territory, near renegade regime's border appearance: sparse pine forests
the witch's house
Warriors call this place "The Sunflower Cottage" around kits and apprentices, so as not to frighten the former or excite the latter into exploring where they ought not to. No one has ever seen the witch rumoured to live here, but they've heard her singing out in the woods at night and smelled the remnants of the bonfires she lights in the wildflower meadow during the wet months.
Apprentices sometimes dare each other to steal something from around the cottage, and halloween celebrations are occasionally conducted nearby, for added spookiness.
Dried herbs hang in bunches inside the windows - but you'd best run fast if you see the lights on or the chimney smoking. Only the bravest cats venture close enough to advantage of the little herb garden growing out the back or the mice scurrying through the piles of firewood. And if you see a shadow pass by the window - run.
LOCATION: to the north of camp, on the edge of a patch of woodland near the wildflower meadow appearance: a small, ramshackle wooden shack
the thunderpath
A small, earthen thunderpath on the south-eastern edge of the territory. Twolegs can sometimes be seen riding horses along the track, and on brittle leaffall mornings, cold air mists off the golden grass in gentle, spiraling clouds.
LOCATION: edge of summerclan territory, south-east of the camp appearance: a narrow dirt track
the wildflower meadow
A lovely, sprawling meadow filled to the brim with every flower under the sun: daisies, cornflowers, tulips, sunflowers, roses, periwinkles, forget-me-nots, bluebells, marigolds, daffodils, swamp cotton, violets, vervain, buttercups, goldenrod, sundrops, the list goes on! There's also no shortage of herbs, making this a favourite spot for medicine cats to forage.
A large portion of it is also a lavender field, perhaps once planted in neat, purple rows by twolegs but long since left to be reclaimed by the wild. The smell is gorgeous, especially after the first rain of leafbare, when the water soaks into the dry earth and the scent of lavender bursts into the air.
LOCATION: north-east of the camp, near the beach appearance: a beautiful meadow filled with flowers
THE BIRCH FOREST
A pretty, softly-lit forest that lies near the waterfall to the east of the territory, between the hill near camp and a hill near the thunderpath to the south.
Not a great spot for hunting, given the lack of undergrowth, but a magical place to visit nonetheless.
THE GIANT REDWOOD
A great tree on the very outskirts of the territory, south-west of the camp and beyond even the rabbit meadow. It was once beyond SummerClan's borders, in rogue territory, until the mind sickness forced the Clan to shelter inside the hollow trunk. Now, it is a popular hunting spot and marks an important chapter in SummerClan's territory - a terrible chapter, but one no one must forget.
It is the site of festivals and clan bonding rituals, to remind everyone what they lost and what they gained through their love of each other, as a family. It was once a symbol of mourning that SummerClan, as only they could, turned into a gentle victory and a reminder of their perseverance and spirit; they have much to be thankful for, and they know it.
The Giant Redwood also acts as a secondary camp; the Red Guards are tasked with maintaining and developing it and ensuring that its fit to inhabit if the need ever arises, and they sometimes stay there rather than return home to the primary camp. Call them paranoid, but SummerClan will not accept being left without a home ever again.
THE LONG RIVER
A river that separates the rabbit meadow from the rest of the territory; it can be crossed by fallen logs and stepping stones at certain points, though some brave cats prefer to swim.
THE LAKE
A huge, beautiful lake shared with SpringClan in the north of SummerClan's territory. A popular spot to watch the sunset.
THE BEACH
A popular spot for cats of all ages during newleaf and greenleaf; the sand is warm, the water is calm, and prey is plentiful among the aspen trees and flowers lining the beach.
Located to the north of SummerClan territory; the lake is shared with SpringClan, and cats must be careful not to wander too far along the beach, lest they stray from their own territory.
THE WATERFALL
Located to the east of the territory, on a ridge that starts on the other side of the hill to the camp and rises into Renegade Regime territory. It's a popular spot for young couples and those courting, and for those simply looking for a peaceful place to relax that isn't too far from camp.
During newleaf and greenleaf, cats from all walks of life in the Clan, even kits, will come here to swim and play on the banks.
THE TRAINING PASTURE
A small, open meadow ringed by pine trees, just to the east of the camp. This is where mentors take their apprentices to learn to fight.
THE FOREST
Though most of SummerClan territory is wide, open spaces and free, gentle meadows, there are patches of forest, mainly pine. See above for more information on their locations!
THE STREAMS
There are a number of streams that run through SummerClan's territory, eventually converging to join with The Long River and flow into the lake.
Tansy, watermint, chervil, chickweed, and burdock grow well on their banks.
THE HILLS
There are two main hills in the territory: the one closest to camp that the ridge and waterfall eventually rise out of, and one further south, near the small thunderpath.
The one that the camp backs onto is covered with sparse pine trees, while the other is more bare, with only golden grass and flowers for shelter from the hot greenleaf sun.
THE OLD BARN
An abandoned twoleg settlement, comprised of an old red barn, a windmill, a theatre with book-lined shelves where there ought to be seats and heavy velvet curtains, and a coffee shop overgrown with ivy; unbeknownst to the cats, it was once the home of an apocalyptic cult, until a mass suicide left it empty.
It's a good place to find herbs and hunt, but beware: many cats believe it's haunted. During leafbare, some say you can see sweet-smelling smoke billowing from the chimneys, as though the twolegs have returned to their long-ago home, and some have heard music and the laughter of two twoleg kits, a brother and sister, echoing through the old, dusty theatre.
THE CORN FIELD
A small, mostly dead cornfield that lies in front of the barn. It's eerie at the best of times, and at its spookiest in leaffall, when the dry crops turn black and mist swirls around their stalks.
There's also a tiny pumpkin patch beside it.
THE ORANGE GROVE
A small, overgrown grove near the barn; untended by twolegs, it has been reclaimed by nature and left to run wild.
A thin earthen path leads straight through the centre of it, with the trees on either side.
THE GOOD LANDS
This comprises all of SummerClan! They truly do consider themselves lucky, and honestly believe there is no territory as good and beautiful as theirs.
They'll often refer to it as such - the good lands.
SummerClan is among the more traditional Clans. They believe in StarClan, and few of their traditions and beliefs differ very much at all from those of their ancestors centuries earlier. To them, each member of their Clan is their family, from the smallest kit to the most ancient elder, and there is an innate warmth and intrinsic tenderness unique to SummerClan.
Quite old-fashioned, they are firm believers in good ol' Southern hospitality, charitable to those in need, understanding of outsiders, and benevolent to those that have wronged them. They care for nature as well as each other and thank each prey creature for their life after each kill, thus honouring their sacrifice so that they may live in their stead. It is also not unheard of, during the warmer months when prey is plentiful and no cat is hungry, for SummerClan to nurse injured birds and small animals back to health instead of eat them.
Despite their reputation of friendliness, they don't go out of their way to interact with other Clans, preferring to keep their warmth directed inwards towards their own group; therefore, though kind, they can be polite to the point of distance and cordial to the point of remoteness. They believe in the best in other cats, but also recognise that not all are raised with the same morals as them.
SummerClan cats are raised in a loving, close-knit environment where failure is something to laugh about and pick yourself up from, devotion to each other is more important than greed, and violence is rarely the answer - but don't mistake their kindness for weakness; there is a reason they have remained strong while other Clans have perished.
SPECIAL RANKS
The vast majority of the ranks in the Clan are traditional and familiar - a leader, a deputy, a medicine cat and their apprentice, warriors, apprentices, queens, kits, and elders. Two special ranks, however, are the Red Guard, a group of elite warriors led by a Captain, and the Garden Keepers.
The former were created by Ravenstar, Doestar's predecessor, following her determination to never again leave her Clan defenceless, and can be tasked with anything needed by the leader or the Clan - special patrols and exploration outside the territory, investigating rumours, gathering information on other clans, finding new herbs, mapping the rogue territories, anything. They are also tasked with creating a secondary camp by The Giant Redwood, and more often than not lead the charge into any battle and offer advice and counsel at the leader's request. It is recommended that they do not take mates, however, this is not compulsory.
The latter was created by Doestar after he was inspired and moved by Venuskit. The role of Garden Keeper offers an alternative pathway to those cats not wishing to become warriors. They are devoted to creating and maintaining the Clan's gardens, discovering, identifying, and planting new herbs and plants, assisting the medicine cats to gather supplies and treat minor ailments if they are overwhelmed, maintaining and arranging the camp's decorations, tending to graves and ensuring there are always fresh flowers and plants on and around them, and generally keeping the camp beautiful. If a new leaf is needed for the Ceremony of the Leaves, the leader will consult them for information on symbolism, and they will also collecting and arranging the leaves for each ceremony.
They are still trained for one moon in hunting and fighting once they reach six moons of each, so no cat is left unable to defend or provide for themselves, and so they can feasibly take a warrior apprentice if the need arises. Any warrior is able to step down from their duties at any time to become a Garden Keeper, and apprentices are encouraged to choose their pathway before their ceremony.
Garden Keepers are identified by the plant worn in front of one of their ears; wearing a flower signifies that they have an expertise in floral art, wearing a leaf signifies that they have an expertise in plants, and wearing a sprig of a herb signifies they have an expertise in herbs. The side the decoration is worn on also has a meaning: on the right signifies they are single, and on the left signifies they have a mate.
TRADITIONS
Among their more modern traditions are the Ceremony of the Leaves and the seasonal and cultural festivals that take place throughout the year, including the Dawn to Dusk festival and the celebration of the summer solstice. There are also regular clan bonding rituals and galas. To mark the end of summer, and at Halloween, there is also a celebration in a pumpkin patch near the old barn. Much like in SunClan, SummerClan cats bring gifts to mothers and newly-born kits; but, unlike the other Clan, this is not to win favour, but simply to shower love and selfless appreciation upon the new family. The gifts are usually ornamental rather than practical, often flowers or pretty shells from the lakeshore.
If SunClan is the very worst of what a cult-like group can be, SummerClan is surely the very best.
PREDOMINANT TRAITS: warm-toned and short pelts, kindness, acceptance, LOYALTY, an aptitude for HARD WORK, RESPECT FOR TRADITIONS, CLOSELY BONDED, CREATIVITY, PERHAPS A LITTLE OLD-FASHIONED, BUT WELCOMING OF ALL CATS, GOOD HOSTS.
FAST RUNNERS AND excellent rabbit hunters. lovers of nature and all life. most cats know at least a little something about herbs and healing, just through their love of plants. THE AMISH OF THE CLANS.
The leaves, already full of symbolism, also act as reminders of the brevity of life: upon the tree, the leaf lives and dies; when plucked from the tree and chosen by the cats during the ceremony, it remains beautiful for a few more days before it, too, dies.
After having chosen their leaves, the cats hold onto the leaves until that day comes, weaving them into their nest and spending a day honouring the tree or bush the leaves have come from; during that time, they are forbidden from hunting in or around that tree/bush, to pay respect to the other lives that depend on it as well.
Once the leaf shrivels and dies, it is released back to the wind to continue on its own journey, and the cat is left with a greater appreciation for the world they are apart of.
