Brilliance-kun walked towards the black cat, gait as perfect as ever. She had already spent part of her youngling-hood training with Mother E'tani, so she had high expectations for this Kotori. Of course, she couldn't continue to train with her since Mother E'tani had her hands full with that undecided trainee. Oh well, her judgement should be good, right?
"I'm Brilliance-kun. Your apprentice." She told him like she was telling him the sky was blue and there was blood on his paws.
"Uh yeah, okay you just stay here for a moment," Kotori said in his usual snarky high tone as he walked away, seemingly to never come back.
Kotori walked behind a tree and fanned his face dotting his paw across his eyes. In his entire life he had never been chosen to actually mentor anyone. In his old home he murdered a bunch of cats on his graduation day so he never got a cadet in thee Regime. Here he came as the last outsider to be accepted before that insane initiation process began. He figured he only got in cause his girlfriend was warden and since then he never really got acknowledged, he'd just been trying to be a shadow. Sure he murdered a bunch of people, but that was all personal. Since coming here things had been different, he didn't feel the urge to kill, in fact he found that the last time he attacked a cat he actually fainted at the sight of blood. His sins hadn't caught up with him till later, but now that they had he felt remorseful. But with a trainee things finally felt like home, he could stop feeling like people were staring at him all the time.
Kotori retreated back to Brilliance-kun, this time she could see his half white face. His walk was very regal, each step held a certain sly rhythm to them, "Yeah okay, great. What do you want to learn? I can teach you about um, bugs or spying, oh and rocks! Or judging people or fur care..."

Huh. This was not who she expected.
She watched him walk away, suddenly unsure what to do with herself. She couldn't doubt her new mentor. Everyone had a story to hear, and she had heard some of Kotori's. From the Regime, got kicked out for murder, the usual. No details, just simple stuff. It could easily be lies, but Brilliance-kun wasn't gonna bring anything up. She needed to learn all she could from Kotori, and the rest of Internal Affairs.
When he came back, her blue eyes ran along the white side of his face. His gait reminded her of her own, and she could see why the two were paired. But underneath it, he seemed... distracted, for lack of a better term. "How about hunting? Can't expect a free meal now that I'm a trainee." Sure, spying and the like would come later, but she needed to get the basics out of the way.
If he was being honest which he was about to do anything he could to lie to her, he had no idea how to hunt. Renegade Regime only taught you one talent and you had to decide by the time you were six moons old. He chose to spy because he wanted to be better than Zakiyyah, he wasn't even sure if at the end of the day he liked what he had learned. But since you only learned to be a professional at one thing he never got any training on how to hunt. For the most part he barely scraped by and when he was really suffering usually a family member took pity on him and gave him something to eat. It was why he typically hunted by himself far away so no one could see what a loser he was in the subject.
"How about, that wasn't a part of the multiple choice? Here, I'm going to teach you how to be a psychological terrorist, just totally destroy people with your words. Let me first see what you got, go ahead, insult me, like really come at me."

"Uhhh. Okay." Well, there goes that idea. She didn't know enough about the Regime to know why he refused so quickly. Guess it's back to Mother for that. And fighting. Maybe she could go back to spying, but it seemed like he made up his mind. Brilliance-kun wasn't the meanest trainee on the block, but she may as well indulge.
"You're completely useless. All bark and no bite. You're so full of crap, you could pass for a toilet!"
Kotori had his black paw up to the bridge of his nose, "Gracious, you're a disgrace to your age group," He took his paw away from his face, "You could say that about anyone, it needs to be more personal, unexpected. Basically all great judgment comes from first judging, you need to observe the person and then judge. So like with you if I wanted to get mean I'd be like, "Wow, did your mom ask for a refund when she saw your pug nose face?" But I gotta warn you against looks, people around here have thick skin and don't usually get insulted by strangers so you gotta go a lot deeper than that. Usually humiliation goes a long way. I'll tell them that they have an eye booger or prey in their teeth, even if they don't, especially if I want their ugly face away from mine," He purred.
"Anyways, I'm doing you no favors there, I was a little too polite on that insult to you. We'll work on, you'll get it," Kotori said with a wave of his paw, "Any who, you can look for opportunities while we do some real spying, I'm talking about actually spying on a clan together. Nothing like actually going out on some field work to get you prepared. What do you think?"

Brilliance-kun nodded, shrugging her shoulders a little. She didn't have much practice insulting cats, spending her time training herself physically rather than trying to harden herself up. Besides, she didn't join the district to learn how to insult and interrogate, she did because it appeared to have the most freedom for her to expand her skills. She'd leave the insulting to Kotori. Anyway, at least he suggested something Brilliance was more familiar with.
"Sounds perfect." Hopping to her feet, she hoped this would smooth things over after their rocky start. Something he knew and she had genuine interest in. This was gonna be fine, right?
After a while they made it to WinterClan where he spotted out an apprentice walking alone out on the side of a hill. His exotic green eyes lightened up, "Oh this is perfect! We're down wind so how about you practice following him. Stay low like this," Kotori said showing her a hunters crouch never knowing that the way spies tracked cats on foot was exactly the same as how a hunter would hunt, "If you master that maybe I'll show you how to capture him. All districts kind of have to be good at that except Punishment district. Since if we ever find some possible prisoners we gotta know how to drag them over. Ours has to be especially good at it since if we ever did need to incarcerate someone they have our skills and we need to be ready to take them out if need be. So practicing on some pint sized apprentice would be good," Kotori said despite himself being about an apprentices size.

Their trip to Winterclan felt like it took forever, cause really, she wasn't acquainted with the distance between their little manor and estate to the clans. But at least here in Winterclan, she blended into the snow easier than the grasses and trees at home. Those discrepancies in his speech made her tilt her head, but she didn't question him again. Instead, she just nodded and walked a few paces away from him. She had practiced this stance with Mother and repeated it, her crouch not as short as Kotori's as she slowly climbed up the hill, keeping to the treeline. With every few steps, she got more comfortable in the snow, and sank lower. Paws involuntarily shivering, she paused to get them to quiet before continuing.
"You're doing a really great job," Kotori whispered to her and then slowed down, "Alright, I want you to try and tackle and pin him down. It'll be okay, if you mess up I'll be right there," He coaxed before giving her a nod for her to continue towards the apprentice.

Brilliance-kun looked back briefly and gave Kotori a nod before slowly drawing closer to the apprentice. Her legs strained from the effort, but she didn't let them shake. Air cold and stinging despite the summer heat, she was behind a tree to the side of him, still downwind as she watched him continue like she wasn't even there. All that hard work was paying off. As the countdown slowly ticked in her head, she felt something slip under her paws. Looking down, it was a rock, the small crack against another made her freeze as the apprentice looked her way. Not daring to breathe, she froze until hey began to walk again. She threw the rock in front of her, drawing the attention of the apprentice a few steps forward. With that, Brilliance-kun charged, tackling the apprentice. They let out a gasp, quickly fighting back but Brilliance-kun wouldn't let go and the two soon found themselves tumbling down the hill a few feet.
"OH BLIND PROTECTOR!" Kotori screamed watching the trainee and apprentice tumble down the hill, hoping that Brilliance-kun didn't completely ruin her fur, it would take hours to fix it back up again. And that she was okay. That was important too! But her FUR, the poor thing! Kotori quickly rose to chase after, but quickly heard the approaching sound of a patrol. His ears flattened as he stared helplessly at Brilliance-kun, she stood more of a chance at not being spotted than he did standing more out in the open. He quickly darted into fanned his tail over his paw prints so the snow wouldn't look as disturbed and threw himself into a bush.
The blue grey tom struggled a bit in Brilliance-kun's grip, "What's your problem?"
The apprentice stopped struggling when he heard the sound of a patrol coming and gave a bit of an annoyed look at Brilliance-kun as though to say, smart plan, what now?
After all, he was ditching training practice, which clearly maybe he shouldn't have since this newly made trainee was able to just throw him into the ground so easily. He hadn't exactly made efforts to get better at fighting or hunting. He just wanted to laze around camp and judge others like his mom did.

Brilliance-kun stood, her fur now a definite mess but coated in snow that helped her blend in more with the surroundings. Her ears swiveled back, the sound of approaching footsteps making the hairs on the back of her neck stand. His question went in one ear and out the other, she flipped him over and dragged him by the scruff into the brush. Keeping him pinned, she finally answered,
"Nothing, but you won't have to worry about it if you make any noise." Her voice was firm and quiet, but she knew she probably wouldn't have been able to kill the apprentice if he even made a noise. Just the thought made her stomach turn. But still, she kept his face pressed to the ground, hovering over him as she looked around for Kotori.
"I don't know, will you kill me if I scream for them?" The tom asked, his head rolled to the side to look at the WinterClan patrol. They had paused there, talking and therefore making it impossible for Kotori to sneak back over to Brilliance-kun. So long as they all stayed where they were, they would both be safe.
The apprentice gave her a bored look, he didn't seem phased, "Do you even know how to kill yet?"

"Do you even know how to shut up yet?" Brilliance-kun pressed further down, ignoring the twist in her stomach. He was right, she didn't know. She'd only practiced on small animals, mostly rats that ran around the estate. One of her claws traced along his neck, straight across from one end to the other. Just like one of those rats, he didn't cry like one though. He wasn't one, just another apprentice like her. Learning and going on adventures and all that fun stuff. A part of her didn't care, and that was the scariest part of this mission.
"If I shut up there's less of a chance you won't kill me and nothing would bring me more splendor than to die now and sleep forever," Nikkopaw said sarcastically, there was no fear in his eyes. An absence of any emotions, they were glazed like a corpse with only the dryness sass of his voice giving himself any life at all, but even then it was faint.
The patrol was still standing around, but Nikkopaw had kept his voice down low enough for them not to notice. Either out of fear or... Or really who knows what else.
