Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
There was snow in February and there was just something about snow that day that looked like a good coffin to lay in for the rest of her eternal death. Life had seemed absolutely bleak and everything about herself felt like a disease. Everyone she came into contact with contaminated the despair and suffering. When Deal walked back into her life, she didn't mind suffering for him. Probably because she was a sadomasochist, but also out of love. They had spent about two days together total as a couple and what felt like a life time of cursed Deal when it had actually been two days. Now she had him back, now she was considering keeping him prisoner in DayClan camp, but that also seemed unfair because she had been kidnapped just as many times.
Glowstar rolled over to look at Deal who had dried off since she shoved him into Moon Creek and all the worry washed away. Every time she looked at him everything that came to this moment felt like the right choice. For a moment she couldn't find words to speak. Are you okay? No, who would be after all that?
"Listen, I'd say there's a wrong time to ask about this, but, every moment of ours seems to be a bad time so I'm just gonna ask. Do you believe in true love and if you do... Can you honestly say that out of all the she-cats you've been with you feel I top all of them? Truthfully and like, I'm not trying to fish out a no win answer," Glowstar grinned before looking serious, "We've only been together for like two days, so I'm just trying to sort out what stage of our relationship we're at. You gave me a life so we're at like the kissing stage at least, right?"
Everything was a complicated tangle inside of his head— old memories reasserting themselves that conflicted with the corrupted versions the Sun God had planted in his mind, feeling more and more real with time. He had nearly asked to stay behind in MoonClan, to spend some time by himself, but the leader hadn’t looked interested in offering him a place to stay, and he was too much of a coward to face his old friend there anyway.
“I don’t remember,” he said with an edge of frustration, not directed at her but at himself. “I think.... I’m still figuring everything out, it’s hard to remember what’s real and what isn’t. But I know I like you... differently than most cats.” He struggled to find the right words. “I’m a good way. Like... it’s more steady, I don’t love you for the day, I always do.”
"Yeah," Glowstar said mindlessly staring up into the sky before her gaze fixated onto Deal's frustrated expression. She rose onto her paws, "Alright, let's get you back to DayClan's camp, you really need to rest," She smiled in faint amusement. He looked cute when he was frustrated, but at the same time she worried about him, if he'd be able to sort through things and the toll it was doing to him. Her mind had gone through multiple alternate versions of what she could have done, but ultimately she kept coming to the same conclusion that Deal's choices led him to this path. It started when Foxstar demanded to know Deal's location, if she told her then this would have happened a lot earlier. Because she didn't tell Foxstar she got caught leading to the onslaught of chaos that followed with Deal following her to the gathering and demanding some OTHER chick, still really bitter about that to protect him which ultimately led to him being brought back to Foxstar. If anything her clan being captured was the closest scenario she could have gotten to try to stop Foxstar from cursing and killing him, but it wasn't enough.
What was enough was the fact that during that time Glowstar had befriended closely every clan that Foxstar ever hurt. In short, SunClan could never uproot DayClan's lives again, their backup was double than what SunClan had. She felt safer knowing that Deal's return was to a nicer era in DayClan's life.
Deal didn't follow her, but stopped and frowned, his brow furrowed and gaze puzzled. "Hold on," he interjected, "that's it?" His feelings for her were complicated, especially with his memory, especially with this recent betrayal as she tricked him into the creek, and he expected she felt similarly, but that wasn't an excuse. He shook his head. "We have to talk about this more eventually... even if not right now. You haven't answered your own questions yet."
Maybe it was just the suspicion that had been planted in his mind, but he was afraid to hear her answer. If she felt more than he did that could be bad, but what if she felt nothing at all? If he had grossly overestimated their relationship that would complicate things even more, though at least that would be typical.
He had a habit of making these things complicated.
"I love Rake and he's gone and I love you, but you were gone too. For years. Our love is very young and... I mean you've been gone so long Deal, why the heck- Ugh, I'm mad at you. I'm mad because with a room full of the nation leaders you chose god damn Vera E'tani. It was multiple choice where every answer, but ONE was incorrect and you chose it. And like, okay, I can forgive, StarClan knows I have, but the thing is I have no idea if you're going to do something like that again. I can't keep losing you Deal," Glowstar's voice trembled, "I've watched litters of kits grow into warriors with the time you've been gone and it sucks so bad. But despite it all I hunted you down every night till I found you because no God was going to defy your right to be who you are."
Glowstar breathed in a breath that never seemed to be exhaled back out, "I'm sick of missing you Deal, that's where I'm at with you. So, I understand if you need time to rest, but I don't want to have to miss you again."
His chest seared with guilt and his gaze dropped. He hated that he has caused her so much pain. “I’m sorry,” he murmured, “I really am, but... I don’t know how much I can promise. I can’t— I didn’t know just how much Foxstar hated me or why and I didn’t know how to stop it. I still don’t know if I can, or if I have other enemies that want to do the same.” His haunted gaze flicked up to her. “Maybe I’m free now but I don’t know. I don’t want to hurt you again. So,” he took a deep breath, held it, shakily let it go, “if it’s— if it’s for the best, then in the morning I’ll go. I’ll leave and you won’t have to worry and you can just forget me.”
"No! I-I don't know what I want. I just- I want impossible things Deal," Glowstar's eyes flicked away and back onto Deal mixing from rage to utter defeat, before landing on his gaze once more. Hope burned in her eyes brighter than starfire, "I want you to live a happy safe life, I want my best friend to just be happy for us, I want us to live a life together and for you to be a part of the family... I want a lot of things to have to ended happily like in stories."
She rubbed out the tears from her eyes, "Insanity is all I have Deal and maybe I'm crazy enough to believe that we can live the impossible so- will you be crazy with me and we can try to live our insane little life together? Just... Try it and if it doesn't work that's okay."
Her paw weakly bat his shoulder, "Cause we've made it this far together, friendship in tact and adventures to share. Nothing will ever break us a part regardless of where we're headed."
He smiled slightly. "I'm not leaving," he promised, "I just want you to know the offer is there. If you need to go, if this doesn't work... I understand. I won't blame you for it." He dipped his head slightly. He had to let her know, to remind her he wasn't easy to live with, because so far they had barely spent enough time together as a couple and it wasn't too late to turn back. He had guessed she wouldn't give in so easily, but some day she might think back and regret her choice.
There was a growing hint of his old self in his grin as he stepped closer and bumped her lightly with his shoulder. "What, you thought you were getting rid of me that easy? You really think impossible is going to stop me?"
(Too bad Glow's being kidnapped in the upcoming plot by two-legs xD. Deal should get kidnapped too, they'd be like, "It's finally happening! We're together for once!" Or it could just be Deal and Glow having a picnic and this random two-leg grabs Glow and just walks off and Deal's just left like, "Wow universe." LOL
Although this plot isn't lasting nearly as long as the others and focuses more on the rescue operation so I don't think it'll put a damper on things)
Glowstar laughed a little drying her tears, "Nooo," She sang out innocently, her voice cracked slightly, but her smile was still there.
"And plus dating should be fun so we shouldn't get so worked up about it. Like I really want to take you apple picking in the orchard and for us to catch mice by the two-leg farm or lie down in speckled fields to stare up at the clouds. Maybe at night we'd sneak out and go to the city eat some new foods there, visit the beach and collect seashells. I've actually always been really afraid of living a peaceful life, but with you I've never wanted it more. Because I've known what peace is like," Glowstar said gesturing to DayClan's land surrounding them, "But I've never personally wanted it, like really wanted it. Until I met you peace, freedom, and love really didn't mean much to me. I always knew of it, but you gave those feelings worth, like they were real and not made up. When I met you again here in the wheat field all those years ago. If peace is the victory of war I want to spend my victory with you, Deal. And if it doesn't work out that's okay too," She smiled before bashfully rubbing the back of her head, "Maybe even now if you're up for it."
(They both get kidnapped but are taken to completely different places for absolutely no reason)
Deal may still be sorting out the truth of his memories, but he trusted every word she said. It felt incredible, unreal -- how could he make her feel that way? -- but that was why he believed her, she was so honest and unafraid and only Glowstar had such boundless creativity to say it like that. He shook his head as he sidled closer to her with a low, playful rumble, and nudged her under the chin. "I want to do all of that," he agreed. "I'd do anything with you. You want peace we can be the most calm, boring couple in all the clans. The clan will tell stories of how mellow I made you," he teased, "with my peaceful life." He grinned and added, "It really does sound nice though. I just can't imagine you living the peaceful quiet life, that's not you."
"It doesn't sound like me, does it?" Glowstar said with a smile so light and carefree her worries seemed the weight of gossamer, "But one day I caught myself in the realization that DayClan felt more like home than Primal Instinct. Since when had that ever been me? But here we are. I had my chance to take over the league, saw my opportunities, I waited for it too, but when I saw that the moment was right I didn't want to leave here. Once upon a time I hated the Regime, but now I'd defend them over SunClan or anyone any day. The thing that changed is that I know what to value caring about. DayClan really hypes up those peaceful moments, hangs onto them like they're gold and while I never saw the appeal of it I'd love to try it out with you. And y'know if a fox tries to attack us while apple picking and we gotta fight it off and hide in a tree that would be interesting too," She said, a smile playing at her lips.
"So badger boy, would you fancy some late night apple picking? I don't think I've ever seen you try an apple just yet."
His ear twitched, surprised to hear she preferred the Regime over SunClan. He would do the same, but the Regime only held good memories for him, and he knew SunClan’s leader was still Glowstar’s best friend, for all her crimes. But he understood what she said about the peaceful moments. He had lived for those, and sometimes it was only the innocent moments of relaxation that had kept him going, kept him sane. To sit with another cat and just enjoy the moment was something special.
“Let’s avoid the foxes, I’m afraid all that time in prison did me no good.” With his curse he didn’t have much time to regain physical condition and his muscles were still rather deteriorated. With his own light smile, responding to her infectious energy, he nodded. “Let’s go... but I should warn you, I’ve tried apples before. Maybe they’ll taste better with you.”
(I do that, non stop, where I think I replied to something that I definitely didn't! lol)
"Oh, you're no fun," Glowstar said with a mock pout, a smile slipping off the corners of her lips into dimples. A gasp escaped from her muzzle, "Deal, you don't know do you?" She smirked, mischief flaring in her eyes, "There are over 50 types of apples in the orchard, you gotta like one of them, of course there aren't over 50 apple trees growing apples all at the same time. It's gotta be the right season depending on the type of apple tree, but still, my point stands, one of them you have to like and if you become an apple picking pro like me you'll start to learn by scent which apples are the good eatin' ones," She winked.
Her tail ran across his as she led the way towards the apple orchard. Even before approaching they were immediately engulfed in the scent of apple blossoms, ryegrass, and hay. She remembered back to when she was in the league, where you either died or grew too old and worthless to stay. She had always feared she would have to become a kittypet in her old age if WaterClan didn't accept her in as an elder to retire. But now with a clan and seeing farm life even if something happened to her clan she'd probably return back to the farm to live there. Sure it was too peaceful, but it would make the epic times feel so much more exciting.
"Fifty types of apple?" Deal's eyes widened appreciatively. He hadn't realized there was so much diversity. "I thought the different colors were just... colors, like on the coat of a mouse. Brown mice and gray mice, they taste about the same, don't they?" He couldn't imagine there was much range in the taste of apples, except perhaps once they were rotting, but with fifty variations she might be right. There had to be one that was good.
Deal bounded at her side toward the orchard, feeling lighter than he had in moons. It was easy to push his mismatched memory off to the side and focus on their date. It had been too long. He sniffed deeply, scenting unfamiliar DayClan cats mingling in the trees, and was surprised; had he really been gone so long he didn't know every cat by scent? Maybe it had been longer than he'd thought. Time was hard to tell in the darkness. "What else grows here? Any herbs?"
"No herbs that I know of grow here, just lots of apple trees. Though wildlife often venture over here to snack on apples too so there's plenty of prey. I find that in leafbare this is a great hunting spot during the moons where the blizzards don't nearly kill us. Prey often comes here to continue feeding and our warriors are sheltered by the cold thanks to the trees. It's not a lot of buffer for the cold, but it's the only kind DayClan's got. I'm hoping this leafbare we don't have to move to Keepers Mansion again, that maybe the snowfall will be kind and gentle," Glowstar said thoughtfully, her emerald gaze already traveling to imaginative thoughts.
Glowstar broke her gaze and looked at Deal, "What did you do when you led DayClan during leafbare? Was it hard or maybe back then there was much more foliage to survive the cold moons."
Deal nodded, keeping this all in mind. He'd taken an interest in herbs after his brief time spent as a medicine cat, but he couldn't deny prey had always interested him more than foraging. He liked knowing how to treat cats but he couldn't keep up with most of the other demands of being a healer ...especially not the vow of never taking a mate or having kits. He'd broken that a few times during his short moons training his successor.
He ducked his head with a guilty grin. "Well, my first leafbare I spent most of the time not in the clan," he admitted, "so I don't know what happened then. And my second leafbare was an unusually warm year, we didn't get any snow at all and it didn't get much cold either, so I suppose we were lucky. I assumed it was always like that." Deal shrugged.
"Deal! How dare you, you should have taken better care of my future clan," She said in girlish laughter as she swatted playfully at his shoulder, she shook her head before looking at him as though marveled by the concept that Deal would ditch his clan that much even though she definitely went off adventuring. To Glowstar all of her adventures were left with intense supervision, she didn't have a council for no reason, after all.
"You know though, you might be right, I'm already bored just walking to this apple orchard, I don't know if I can survive a normal life. I thought I could, but I'm only a few minutes in. Wait has it been minutes? Maybe I just think it's been minutes, but it's only been a few seconds," Glowstar thought aloud, fanning herself as though to prevent a stress induced breakdown. She shrugged, "Hopefully something interesting will happen at the apple orchard. Maybe we could make an apple stuffed mouse? It's where I stuff a mouse full of warm apple slices that I left baking on a hot stone. My son taught me that one."
The black and white tom laughed, and realized how long it had been since he had. There hadn't been much to laugh at these last few moons. "I had other priorities, okay? I had Barleystar and Northernstar at first, they took care of the hard work so I didn't have to. They didn't... exactly... approve of what I was doing, but they didn't do anything about it. And hey, I did focus on the clan more after they died... sort of... you know how curses are. They never gave me a chance," Deal complained.
He shook his head as she went on. "Come on, enjoy the peace a little bit longer! Don't you want to just sit with me and enjoy a mouse.... or I guess your apple-mouse thing, but I'm skeptical... and watch the sun set over the pond? Aren't I interesting enough for you?" He grinned, teasing.
She smiled and gentle as a flower petals said, "I think I'm allowed to say no." The words were unusually cold for her, but she ventured on, "Your little habit is you can't satisfy yourself for long without hopping along and meet another she-cat. Mine I said was the lust of the kill, but that's not true. A kill to me is an adventure with chaos that's as uncomfortable as leafbare. But you know what's absolutely remarkable about you? I love you enough to consider on my own that I want to spend a peaceful life with you and I'm so addicted to you that I'm willing to try it."
Her gaze watched the distant sun slowly sink, "More than anything though, I want you to be better and safe, I hope someday I get that and if I have to be peaceful for that to happen I'll be the biggest peace loving girl you'll ever meet," She smirked, "So let's watch it by the pond, I don't want a miss a thing," She said getting up.
