Fernpaw knew she wasn't supposed to be out in the territory alone. Being so close to being granted her warrior name she was irritated that Littlebird demanded cats be paired for hunts. She was the child of two independent leaders. Why can't she be her own cat and do things her way? Her brown pelt was hot form the rising sun, her green eyes glinting with determination. A mouse scuttled around the base of a nearby oak tree.
Swiftfire chased after the rodent, but it an advantage of being smaller and slipping in and out of holes he couldnt fit into. Being as fast as he was, this mouse was really embarrassing him, making cuts and close turns around trees. A red-orange blur, he continued the chase. Concentrating on his prey, he lost track of his surroundings. A decent breifly filled his nose, but he ignored it, unaware of what's to come.

Without hesitation Fernpaw darted for the mouse. Her claws just sinking into its small body as a larger form hurtled into her knocking her off her paws. With the air jarred from her lungs she lay gasping for a moment, dazed. The mouse lay at her paws twitching as the life slowly ebbed from it. "Hey!" she hissed still not quite oriented. "What on earth was that for?" she hissed.
He recoiled back and winced, the unexpected impact knocking the air from his lungs. "What...do...you mean," he said between breaths, "that was my prey!" He felt his fur turn hot with rage. All that effort only for somecat to steal my food. He glared at the she-cat. "Thank you so much," he said sarcastically.

"Your prey?" She spit back at him her small body puffing out her brown fur spiking on her hackles nearly making her resemble a pine cone. "You were no where near that mouse when I caught it!" She hissed, emerald green eyes lighting up like fire. Who did he think he was? She lashed her tail in anger.
"Yes, my prey. I dont think I stuttered," he hissed back. "I was chasing that mouse for quite some time, but you had to ruin it!" He refused to admit that the mouse had him beat, his pride wouldn't let him. "You clearly dont know when you're wrong," he said as he stared the she-cat down.

(Sorry work was a disaster this week!)
Fernpaw gave a frustrated hiss. She was tempted to drop the, my mother is the priestess promised and we can take this to her if you want to, but she could handle herself without running to mommy. "Fine you want to claim the mouse then you can fight me for it." she fluffed up the fur along her spine and took a defensive position.
"Really?" he asked with a chuckle. "You'd really fight me over a mouse?" His fur began to stand on end more as he too got into a defensive stance. "Are you sure about this, apprentice?" he said with a slight hiss on the last word.

"Im almost a warrior!" she hissed back at him sinking her claws in and out of the hard ground. "A fight it the only fair way to determine who should have it. If your so high and mighty you will either give it to me or fight me!" she flicked her long brown tail.
Swiftfire relaxed a little and his fur smoothed out. "Almost doesnt count," he responded with a sigh. "Its not that serious. You can have it." He sat and licked his paws for a moment. Taking a closer look at the mouse, it wasnt the same one he was chasing earlier but his pride refused to admit he was wrong.

Fernpaw almost looked disappointing. "Great" she muttered. "Now I don't even want it." she sighed and rolled the mouse under a light paw. "Im Fernpaw by the way." she meowed refusing to meet his gaze her green eyes watching as she moved the mouse from side to side.
A small smile spread across his face seeing her disappointed look. "I'm Swiftfire," he replied back. "Theres no need to look that way, Fernpaw. If you dont want it now, at least we can take it back for our clanmates who might want it," he suggested in a soft tone. He felt guilty in a way so he offered his help. "Here, I'll even carry it back." he mewed.

She looked up with a small nod. "But if anyone asks I caught it." she interjected with a small smile of amusement. She looked at the small mouse. "But maybe we should catch a little more before we return. One mouse between us is kinda sad." she snickered.
He gave her an incredulous look but it fade with a smile. "You may have caught it but it was mine for the taking," he said with a slight chuckle. "But yeah, we should definitely catch more prey. But let's make it a game," he suggested. "I bet I can catch more than you."
