Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Rain pelted down from dark gray clouds above the trees. Lightening split the sky and soft rolling rumbles gently shook the ground. Celestialglow was padding through the forest, the rain clinging to her pelt, not yet drenching her. She had hoped to hunt before the rain started but unfortunately, right before she made the pounce on a squirrel, the rain picked up and the squirrel darted for shelter. Now, she was searching the forest for any prey that was still trying to find shelter but she wasn't having any luck. Mouse dung, she cursed, flicking her tail irritably. Curse this rain! She kept going until she came to a river but even the fish had sunk to the bottom, out of reach. She blushed a little when she realized it was the same spot that her and Cutthroat went for a swim in. She recalled back to the day he had asked her to be his mate and her fur burned but in a pleasant way. She had never felt this way about anyone before. If someone would have asked her about him when she had first met him, she would have thought that he hated her. How annoyed he had been with her when she got angry with him for saving her life from a fox. Now, no one would have ever thought that they didn't like each other at one point. They were nearly inseparable.
The rain picked up and eventually soaked her, her golden tabby fur clinging to her lithe and fit body. But she didn't care, she was too busy lost in her favorite memories. She began to wonder where he was now. She hadn't seen him on her way out, he had woken before her. Perhaps he had been called on a patrol and she didn't hear him leave?

Why did it have to rain when cats are normally up and around? Cutthroat wondered as he came back to the camp with two mice dangling from his mouth. Why can't it rain just at night when we're warm and dry in our dens? He had gone hunting as a favor for his good friend, Stonefang, who wasn't feeling too well today. He had asked him to hunt for mice for his daughter who would be soon be having her first litter. Stonefang was going to do it himself but woke up with a terrible headache. Of course Cutthroat agreed to help out. After taking the mice to the nursery, he returned to the warriors den hoping to find Celestialglow but upon arriving he saw she was gone. Stonefang told him he saw her leave the camp when he came back from the medicine den.
Cutthroat looked out of the den at the pouring rain. Oh well, I can't get any wetter than I already am. He left the den and the camp and set out in search of his mate. He hadn't a clue where to begin and tracking her by scent was next to impossible in this rain. So he decided he'd check out a few of their favorite places and headed toward the nearest one, the stream.
She heard paw steps approaching. Instinctively, Celestialglow rose to her paws and swung around, fur bristling. "Whose there?" She called out, her tone stern and unwelcoming. She was always on defense for the fear of something sneaking up on her. After all, thats what had happened when she had come face to face with the fox Cutthroat had saved her from. She was staring threateningly into the shadows, her green eyes narrowed against the screen of rain.

His heart leaped at the sound of Celestialglow's voice, even though it's tones were harsh and aggressive. That's what I love about her, at least one of the things I love about her, he thought. She's fearless. He raised his face to the wet skies. StarClan must have guided his steps just to the right spot! He felt elated, so much so that an uncharacteristic spirit of playfulness took hold of him. Deciding to remain hidden, Cutthroat crouched behind a small leafy bush. Using deeper tones in an attempt to disguise his voice, he spoke. "I'm a rogue who's out looking for a she cat who'd like to be my mate." As he spoke he realized how silly it would be for any cat to be out in this weather looking for a random mate. He sighed but continued anyway. "You're pretty. Are you interested?" As he was hiding, he didn't notice that his tail was showing out from the side of the bush.
She tensed, "what are you-" she was about to leap in and claw the ears off of the so-called "rogue" but she then noticed his tail and a purr rose up in her throat. "Cutthroat" she called his name, shaking her head and taking a seat, relaxing her fur. "What are you doing out here? I know your not here to play in the rain. You hate the rain."

"Aw what gave me away?" he asked as he came out from the bush. He shook his fur as a reflex and realized it was a useless action in this downpour. "And you're right, I hate the rain. Only love would bring me out in this mess." He looked at Celestialglow's fur that was plastered to her body and smiled but then figured he probably looked just as funny, maybe even worse. "Let's find some place dry until this passes."
"Your tail gave it away" she purred as he stepped out. She bounded over to him and pressed her muzzle to his, breathing in his scent. She then nodded at his request, "Thats a good idea. I was out before the down pour started. Should have stayed in camp though."

"Yes, you should have," he teased. "Then I wouldn't have had to come out in this mess looking for you." Lightning flashed followed by a loud clap of thunder. "Let's find cover soon! Isn't there a cave at the bottom of this mountain?" He turned to face the mountain with the stream now at his back. He seemed to recall coming across one while he was an apprentice. "Or do you know some place closer?" Another flash of lightning lit up the whole area for just a brief moment.

"Then let's go," Cutthroat meowed. He wanted more than anything to get out of the pouring rain. "I'll lead the way." He headed toward the mountain at an angle where he thought the cave was.
Celestialglow followed, hunching her shoulders as the rain pelted down. A flash of lightening and a clap of thunder startled her, the wind picked up and the tree tops bowed to it. "I'm a mouse brain for being out in this!" She shouted against the screen of rain.

Cutthroat agreed with her statement but held his tongue. He hated being soaked to his skin but ever since he fell in love he began to do strange things such as this. Leading the way more by sense of direction more than anything else because his sight and smell were obscured by the pouring rain, he made his way to the base of the mountain. But which way should he go now, to the right or the left? He wasn't sure. "Do you know which direction the cave's at from here?" he asked Celestialglow hoping she knew.
Celestialglow halted and scanned their surroundings, the wind making the rain feel like pellets hitting her. She squinted against the screen of rain, trying to make out where they were. She wasnt sure but she didn't want to admit that to her mate. "Um...I think its this way" she meowed, leading the way. They travelled for a little while until the territory no longer looked familiar. Suddenly, a large abandoned barn came to view, only an outline against the pouring rain. "Its not the cave but I bet its dry!" She picked up the pace and slipped in. Rain could be heard pouding on the roof, the air smelled musty and old. However, at least it was dry. She shook out her fur, feeling relieved to be out of the rain.

Eager to be out of the rain, Cutthroat ran inside and shook himself off. The water had left him cold and caused him to shiver. The rain pounded on the roof of the old barn making a loud rumbling noise. "That's almost as loud as thunder," he commented looking up. "It's a good thing you remembered this old twoleg nest being here. I had nearly forgotten about it." Bushes and trees had grown up all around the building almost obscuring it from view. It was as if nature was trying to hide this unnatural thing and to take it over.
The strange, oldish smells came to his nose too as he looked around the barn. There was a broken down stairway leading up to a second floor on the opposite side from where they were standing. Many of the steps were missing but a cat could easily still use it to reach the upper floor. Piles of old, dusty hay were strewn in large heaps, mostly near the outer walls of the nest. What looked like the skeletal remains of an old monster sat in a far corner. It's dead. It won't run us over, he thought as he looked at it. To his immediate right was a hay pile. It looked like a warm, soft place to rest. "I'm going to lay down over here for a bit," he meowed. "I don't know about you but that run through the rain has tired me out."
She didn't want to admit to Cutthroat that she hadn't actually remembered the barn being here but she went along with it. The hay looked inviting and warm, "yeah, it wore me out too." Her teeth chattered as she curled up in the hay, brushing her pelt against her mates and drifted off to sleep.
------
Celestialglow woke to a growling sound outside of the barn. She froze, her fur rising. "What was that?" she whispered, unsure if Cutthroat was even awake yet.

Cutthroat woke up groggily and blinked open his eyes. The odors and the inside of the barn confused him. This isn't the warrior's den, he thought. Where am I? The sound of rain pattering on the roof didn't help until he forced his mind to remember. "Oh yes, that's right," he meowed as recent memories came flooding back to him. He and Celestialglow were waiting out the storm in the old barn. His fur was nearly dry and he felt warmer now. As he rose to his feet he noticed that she seemed worried. Not remembering what she said that just woke him, he asked, "What's wrong?"
"I-I'm not sure...I thought I heard-" before she could finish, there was a sniffing sound and a big black nose stuck into a crack in the barn. "Dog!" She hissed. Suddenly, the dog started digging at the decaying wall, flinging splints in his flaying paws. Celestialglow's heart began to pound. "What now?"

The instant she said 'dog' he smelled it. "That's just great," Cutthroat muttered as he looked around quickly and his eyes stopped on the broken stairs. "I don't think it could use those. Dog's aren't as nimble as we are. Let's go up there." He quickly navigated to rickety stairway and scanned the second floor. There was a few broken out windows in the one wall and hay bales stacked against the opposite wall. There were ledges all along the third wall with twoleg stuff setting on them. There wasn't a fourth wall leaving that area open to the rest of the barn. It was from there that Cutthroat looked down upon the main floor below.
Celestialglow followed Cutthroat but just before she reached the top, one of the stairs gave out beneath her and she lost her grip, tumbling back down the stairs. She landed with an awkward thud at the bottom. She groaned and slowly got up just in time to see the dog burst through the walls. It was a tall black and white border collie with it's tongue lolling and slobber dripping from its mouth. Celestialglow hissed and went to climb the stairs again but she realized her shoulder was throbbing and she couldnt put weight on her forepaw or rather move it at all. "Fox-sung" she hissed as she faced the slobbering beast.
She reared up on her hind legs and swiped at the dog with her one good paw, leaving a scratch across its nose. It barked and growled in anger. Then it grabbed Celestialglow around the neck. Pain shot through her body but she sliced at the dog's chin and throat vigorously with her back claws as it pinned her. She could see blood splattering the wood floor but she wasn't sure if it was hers or the dog's.

From his vantage point, Cutthroat saw the dog burst in right after Celestialglow fell. Alarm surged though his whole being. The dog was faster than he expected and was upon his mate in a flash. Without regard for his own safety, he launched himself out of the hay loft and crashed into the dog's neck and head region causing it to drop Celestialglow. Shock shone in the dog's eyes as it jumped and twisted around attempting to dislodge it's attacker but Cutthroat clung on tenaciously. He began clawing at the dog's hide with his back claws causing trickles of blood to flow down it's side and on to it's legs. The dog was frantic to get the cat off so much so that it threw it's side against a rough hewn support post. Pain surged through Cutthroat's body and bright lights flashed before his eyes. He lost his grip on the dog and slid to the floor stunned.
