Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Mud clung to her cream fur as she stumbled along the uncertain terrain. It was plastered to her sides and she couldn’t even see the color of her paws anymore, and it was jammed between her toes where she couldn’t get it out without work. She hated every second of it, it would take forever to clean and the thought became restless as it nagged at her every step, but she forced herself onward. She couldn’t stop now. As the pale morning light showed over the border she nearly collapsed in relief, sliding to a halt at the border and looking hesitantly across. Should she wait or was this urgent enough she should just run for it?
The earthquake had come suddenly. She’d been out hunting when the ground trembled beneath her paws and then snarled and bucked and threw her away, and around her the heaving dirt cracked and fell in on itself. She had escaped without incident, though she thought her heart would stop from terror, but that hadn’t been the worst part. She was alone. She couldn’t find anyone else, couldn’t make it to camp or hear another screaming survivor and she was terrified she was the only one.
Aconiteleap just has to hope SunClan hadn’t been killed too.
It had been some time since Lionpaw had released Ser Squeakers out into the wild. Each day he searched the fresh kill pile, afraid that someone might have caught him, his stomach churning at the sight of each mouse. He had been at camp when they felt the tremors. It wasn't much, but a few limbs had fell that were weaker. He got to worrying about him, and grabbed a little bit of honey before setting out towards the nightclan border that he had released him at.
He had just began to set a little trap with the honey, when a familiar scent reached his nose. But this time, it was mingled with blood and mud. Without thinking her rushed across the boarder towards the scent, not even pausing at the scent markers. He barreled towords her, having to jump over her collapsed frame in order to not bowl her over "Aconightleap" he spun around, running back to her side "Are you ok?"
Relief fluttered in her chest as she saw him emerged in front of her, like out of a dream. He was here, he was okay; she gave him a cursory sniff to be sure, though she couldn't tell through the scent of mud clogging her senses if he was hurt anyway. She just trusted he looked okay. Slowly she pushed herself up again and offered him a comforting queasy smile.
"I'm--- yeah, I suppose," she murmured, "just a little shaken." She had tore up one of her paws on some rocks but she didn't even notice, there had been too much chaos and the scent of blood from other cats or creatures had surrounded her anyway. She took a deep breath. "Have you--- have you seen everyone else? Is everyone okay? There was... the ground was shaking. I don't..." Her eyes turned haunted. "I can't find my clanmates."
Lionpaw watched her carefully, eyes his scanning over her trying to figure out where she was bleeding from. He put his nose against her head gently "I haven't seen anyone from NightClan but you. I felt the ground shake at SunClan's camp, but it wasn't that bad there" he paused looking over the boarder at all the devastation.
"Come back with me to SunClan" he declared suddenly. "I'm not really supposed to bring anyone back to camp, but I can't let you try to get back to your clan on your own. Your paw is hurt and who knows if the ground will shake again. I'm sure mom will understand"
Her tail drooped. She had been hanging onto the last hope that he had seen her clan, but now she was lost. Maybe they were fine, somewhere else... but a large part of her doubted it. What cat could survive the hungry jaws of the ground opening beneath their paws? She had been lucky, and a few others might have been, but what if the entire camp had been swallowed? Was everyone she knew gone?
Aconiteleap let out a shaky breath at the idea of leaving. It scared her, terrified her... not because it was a novel idea, but because she'd almost planned it. She had nowhere else to turn but now that it might actually happen she wasn't sure she could go through with it. Lionpaw was the only cat she knew, most of her family was gone, but a lump formed in her throat. She had heard tales about SunClan, tales of what happened to cats they didn't like.
"I--I suppose, if you really think she won't mind, I-I could use a place to stay... until I find everyone else... if they're out there."
"Of course, I'm not going to leave you out here on your own. You are injured" he moved forward offering his shoulder for support if she needed it. "At the very least come get a meal and rest for a little while, then we can going searching for your clan. I can also see if mom will send out some warriors as well. She will want to know whats going on anyway since Burningstar is part of their alliance"
Aconiteleap accepted his help gratefully. It was a relief to take some of the weight off her paws, but even more just to have someone there, close by and warm, to keep her company. She was terrified and lonelier than ever and if he turned her away she couldn't imagine what she would have done; she could have wept when he let her come with him. "Thank you, Lionpaw," she murmured, taking a few steps at his side. "I'll tell her everything I know, but it isn't much. She'll have to the learn the rest herself... both of us will."
She hoped her clan was safe. She hoped they lived, but for the moment she couldn't bear to think about them anymore, just the clan that awaited her. A comfortable place to recover, food to fill her belly, a friend close by... she felt guilty for thinking of the luxuries she was headed to when her clanmates might be dying, but she was looking forward to it all the same. Did that make her a terrible cat? She nearly asked him, but she was afraid of the answer.
"Here, lean on me" he added offering her a shoulder and a friendly smile. The she-cat looked like she would need some support to reach SunClan's camp, but luckily he was big enough that a little extra weight wouldn't affect him all that much.
"I think my mom will really like you" he purred lightly trying to create a little conversation "But my sister... well she can be a little hard to get along with sometimes"
Aconiteleap felt a nervous flutter in her chest. She had forgotten she'd be meeting his family. It shouldn't matter, meeting her friend's parents, but she couldn't help fearing they might not like her. She was showing up in this tragic state and that was bad enough, but what if they thought she was a little strange, like her clan did? Lionpaw was so laid back sometimes, he might not care, but this was family. A little shiver ran down her spine.
"I guess we'll find out," the cream she-cat murmured, ears pinned against her skull. "What are they like? Anything I shouldn't do or say?"
