Okay. This is fine. Shadedstar repeated to himself as he made his way to their designated meeting spot. It was a genius idea, really. Get all the Mountain Clan leaders together for one night to just hang out. It would give them all a chance to strengthen their Clan bonds or something. It was dark. Very, very dark. There was no light from the new moon.
He made his way carefully through SpringClan territory, tripping a few times here and there, before he arrived at the meeting place. He had a feeling he was way early. That didn’t matter, he’d just wait. Dropping the few mice he brought in a little pile, as it was customary to bring food to a party, and found a place. “Alrighty. This’ll be great.” He said to himself, resting his head on his paws.
“You’re here!” Doestar half-swung down from the tree branch he’d managed to scrabble up on to. For once in his life, he’d arrived to something early — he’d been so excited for their first not-date that he’d gotten to the Gathering Place about three hours too soon and had just been hanging around, waiting. So far, he’d gotten chased by a squirrel when he’d wandered too close to her babies, made up a new song, watched the sunset, had a nap, and climbed into a tree. It had been a good evening, save for the fluttery nerves and the panic of what if they don’t like me?, and it was only going to get better now.
He smiled down at Shadedstar, claws digging into the bark of the tree trunk. “You look nice tonight!”

"Oh StarClan! How long have you been up there?" Shadedstar startled slightly, turning around to see Doestar, the totally not-adorable tom on this not-date. He was a little flustered by the compliment and gave his chest furs a couple of licks. "You too," He smiled. "I--uh--I brought mice?" He gestured towards the little pile with his paws. "Next time I'll bring raspberries, there's quite a few of those in SpringClan. They're so good!" He wondered if he was talking Doestar's ear off, if maybe he should be more polite and professional, but then he reminded himself no--that's stupid. It was a sleepover not-date, not a ever-so-important meeting. They were gonna have fun, hopefully not new-person awkward fun, but either way. It was gonna be fun.
"I wonder when Ghoulstar and Bijou will show up." He looked into the darkness, trying to make out any moving figures in its depths.
Doestar giggled at Shadedstar’s reaction, pulling himself back up into the leaves. “Oh, not long. And by ‘not long’, I mean about an hour, but that’s a whole thing, so, yeah, not long!” He beamed down at Shadedstar, slowly picking his way back along the tree trunk as he listened to him chatter about mice and raspberries and him looking nice, too, which made him smile even wider and blush just a little.
“Ah, we don’t need ‘em, do we?” he replied as he landed a little awkwardly beside the other tom, staggering a few steps before he found his balance again and flashed the SpringClan leader another dazzling grin. “Plenty of fun we can have on our own.” He let out a purr and nudged past Shadedstar affectionately as he trot-limped over to the treeline to catch any new scents. “Just kidding, I’ll wait until at least the third not-date before I start flirting with you.”

“An hour? And I thought I was early.” He commented. “Nothing wrong with that, I woulda done the same thing if I hadn’t been worrying in my den.” He lay back down, gazing up at the tree Doestar was just in. “Yknow, I kinda wanna spook ‘em, when they arrive.” He said out of the blue, turning back to Doestar. “We could hide up that tree.” He paid no heed to the other tom’s comments, or at least that’s what he showed. Inside he was turning as red as those raspberries. “Well, I look forward to it.”
“Hide up the tree?” Doestar groaned, staggering back to Shadedstar like he was about to collapse from exhaustion. “It took me, like, my entire life to get up there in the first place.” Then his ears pricked up and he grinned lopsidely. “But I do kinda wanna spook ‘em. Okay, help me up.”

Shadedstar sighed slightly. “Well, I’m gonna have a grand time, I can barely climb trees to begin with.” He nodded anyway and positioned himself beside the tree, crouching. “I think my back is great leverage, but I’d hold on tight.” He paused to look up at the tree, then at Doestar. He smiled, feeling his cheeks warm up slightly. He shook his head out, throwing his thoughts away. “What if we don’t scare them? It’d be a bit embarrassing.”
“Nah, you’ll be fine.” Look at you! Tall, dark and handsome. He placed his forepaws onto Shadedstar’s back, glancing down at him to check it was okay, before hopping onto him with all four legs. “Then we’ll have a fun story to tell!” he chirped with a smile as he stuck his tongue between his front teeth and reared up onto his back legs, scrabbling for a moment on the tree trunk before he managed to drag himself onto the lowest hanging branch.
“I mean, things are just embarrassing if you let them be, y’know? Like, if you think of them like that. If it doesn’t work, we’ll just tackle ‘em or something instead, take back the power in the situation.” He smiled down at him, one back paw slipping off the branch every few moments as he struggled for a grip. “Your turn, lover boy!”

“Yeah, I guess so.” He stood taller so Doestar could have more leverage. After the other had safely made his way up the tree, Shadedstar looked up at it with slight hesitation. Was this worth it? He looked at Doestar’s adorable face and decided—yeah, it was. So, he dug his claws into the tree bark and heaved himself up, scooting rather ridiculously. “I’m coming up, Doey.” He tested out the nickname on his tongue and decided it fit well.
He struggled up to Doestar’s height, out of breath, and clung to the branch with dear life. “I forgot I kinda hated heights.” He said, trying to find a sturdy grip so he would’ve slip onto the ground below. “Alright, and now we wait.”
“There ya go!” Doestar purred, bumping his shoulder lightly against Shadedstar’s and beaming at his new nickname. “Ya did it!” I forgot I kinda hated heights. “You can always cuddle up to me if you’re scared,” he teased with a smile.
He settled down beside the other tom, gazing out through the gaps in the leaves with a soft purr rumbling in his throat. “And now we wait,” he echoed, resting his chin on his forepaws. It only took a moment before he was fast asleep, side pressed against Shadedstar’s. It had been a long day.

Shadedstar snorted and rolled his eyes. “Sure.” He finally steadied himself, sitting patiently on the branch. Nobody said anything for a while. “Where are they? It’s either they’re late or were early—“ His yellow eyes travelled down to Doestar. He was asleep. And pressed into his side, all warm and cozy. Okay. This was fine. He couldn’t help his face from heating up, or his tail to twitch nervously. He wanted to move, his back was a bit sore, but he also didn’t want to wake Doestar. So, he suffered in silence and continued to wait.

Bijou was running late, a rather bad habit he has gained since becoming Fallclan's leader. His fur was slightly disheveled and the unique Fallclan territory scent of pine tree clung to his fur. He had forgot to grab a piece of food to bring to the meeting, and on the way there had attempted to hunt. But all attempts ended in failure. He padded up to the meeting site and found no one. He began to wonder if he was too late.
The scent of FallClan drifted towards the sleeping leader in the tree. His nose twitched, and he mumbled something and stretched out his forelegs and pushed back against the warm, fluffy thing he was leaning against — and then his eyes snapped open and he shot up, almost falling off the branch. He caught himself just in time, one back leg scrabbling in thin air for a moment, and crouched down to peer through the leaves.
“Bijou!” he hissed to Shadedstar beside him, ears pricking up and pelt quivering with excitement. He trotted in place, turning to the other leader beside him with a big, happy grin as he pawed at the bark of the branch. “Operation Scare Other Leaders And Possibly Bring A Dreadful, Premature End To A Truce And Plunge Our Clans Into Decades Of Bloody War is a go!” He squinted harder and scowled. “He didn’t bring snacks, by the way. That’s minus ten points to FallClan. Let’s get ‘im.”
Shadedstar shifted once Doestar awoke, stretching ever so slightly. He watched Bijou emerge and, purring, nodded to the tom beside him. “I’m ready for that.” He prepared himself, contemplating slightly if they should wait for Ghoulstar, before jumping down. Very clumsily. He did, though, land on his feet. He let out the loudest sound he could as soon as he hit the ground, a weird mix of a yell and a drawn out yowl.
I’m ready for that. Doestar leaned over the edge of the branch, haunches wiggling, and watched Shadedstar leap to the ground with a purr. He hadn’t really thought about how he was going to get down quickly, but it was fine! Slipping slowly off the branch, he finally fell with a rabid scream and crashed to the ground on three paws. He rolled over and over until he came to a stop at Bijou’s paws, purring. “Got ya! G’job, Shadedstar,” he added over his shoulder, grin soft and lopsided and eyes twinkling.
The skinny white tom jumped at the sudden appearance of Shadedstar in front of him. His blue eyes widened and his heart felt like it was going to beat straight out of his chest. The fur along his spine fluffed up when Doestar crashed in front of him. He was speechless and nearly hyperventilating from both of the leaders scaring him.

Shadedstar couldn’t help but laugh, a great, bellowing sound that seemed to be contagious. “Sorry Bijou! But the opportunity was just too good to miss.” He nudged Doestar’s shoulder. “Good job, Doey.” Shadedstar turned to the FallClan leader. “If you want to rage moons of bloody war on us, I totally understand.” He purred.
Doestar let out a shy giggle, suddenly bashful in front of the FallClan leader. When Shadedstar nudged him, he stumbled and glanced up at him with a sweet, sheepish smile, tucking his chin into his chest fur and shuffling one forepaw through the dust. “Got ya,” he agreed softly, grinning boyishly at Bijou and feeling himself blush up to the tips of his ears.
Then, suddenly, he was his usual self; he smiled wickedly and took a step towards the FallClan leader, tapping him teasingly on the shoulder with his paw. “Yeah, you can try and wage war — but ya couldn’t even scent the two of us, so I dunno, doesn’t seem fair on you.” He giggled and flopped against Bijou, resting his cheek on the other tom’s chest and looking up at him with a crooked half-grin and coquettish flutters of his lashes. “Kidding. You’d decimate us. Me. Shadedstar could probably hold his own with all that cute fluff.”
He let out a purr and slowly dragged himself back up to support his own weight. “Anyway, yay, we’re all here! What are we gonna do for our first friendship gathering? I voooooote cuddling. No. That’s too obvious. Um. Ooh! No. Lost it. Ooh, no, yes! Friendship crowns!” He glanced around, spotted a patch of yellow wildflowers, and trot-limped over to them. “Yessss!” he hissed as he went. This alliance was already proving good for him; he’d been so anxious lately, so stressed and self-loathing, and now he felt as young and playful and careless as ever. It was like magic and he loved every second of it, savouring the feeling of freedom with the other toms he already felt so close to.
