Her breath pounded and pulse roared in her ears; blood raced through her veins and sides exploded into motion with heaving, jagged breaths. But she raced on, head bent and determined eyes fixed forward. Pandora pushed herself harder, past the point where her lungs felt they'd collapse from the too-few rapid intakes of air, breaking into the wind. Finally the border came into sight and the apprentice decelerated, planted her paws and came to a stumbling halt. The auburn-cinnamon she-cat's ragged breath was just empty gasping and her head swam.
