Eyes like bolts of lightning traveled purposefully over the bodies that wandered in and out of camp. The Redguard Captain could feel nervous energy pulsing under his gun-metal coat. Cloudyday, Patchpaw, Giantpaw, Moonquest... As each cat entered or exited he inwardly spoke their names. Steelstag had joined Summerclan just a few moons before the sickness began to run mercilessly through the camp. He knew each of his clanmates by name, but he always wanted to make sure. In his time in Summerclan, he began to know one cat better than the others. Even then, he searched for her among the crowd of cats. He silently cursed himself for his weakness. She was an apprentice, yet he felt drawn to her. Briarpaw. What started out as a simple training session turned into an unlikely friendship. Many knew Steelstag as a stoic and emotionless tom. He was fiercely loyal to serving his clan, yet incredibly detached from relationships. The only cats he had grown close to, other than the little tabby apprentice, were his sisters, Fiercepaw and Tuskblood. It was an oddity for him to be so attached to a cat other than them, especially an apprentice. His growled in frustration as yet another cat entered the camp but it wasn't her.
Where was she? It had been a while since he last saw her. Was she possibly avoiding him? Had she caught on to his... what is the word for it? Agh, he didn't know, whatever that mushy stuff was...

Briarpaw had entered in through a back entrance that was uncommonly used due to the large amount of prey she was carrying so she didn't have to walk all the way around. She deposited her catch onto the already overflowing fresh-kill pile with a puff of her chest and a smile. She wasn't much of a fighter, but she was a pretty decent hunter at the very least. She licked a single paw, running it over her ears quickly as she scanned the fluid crowd of camp. Just off a little ways she spotted the familiar large-bodied tom and Reguard Captain and she grinned brightly, quietly slinking over to him as to not be noticed. She watched his for a moment before suddenly appearing beside him, following his gaze curiously.
"Are you looking for someone?" She asked in a soft but clear voice, blinking up at him with her big forest green eyes, a small smile on her face. She liked Stagsteel. He was a little bit grumpy, but she was comfortable with him and he was a lot of fun. She found herself seeking out his presence because despite his cold treatment, she found him to be a rather warm cat and his presence always made her feel a little bit better and a little happier. The apprentice wasn't exactly sure how to describe how she felt about him, but knowing that she liked being in his presence was enough for now.

Steelstag let out a hiss of surprise as she snuck up beside him. "Briarpaw!" He exclaimed in alarm before forcing his fur to lie flat. Most cats he would give a good cuff on the ear and send them away with their tail between their legs after a move like that, but he couldn't do that to her. She had already found her way on his good side, which many did not know he had. As he rubbed his shoulder from where he bumped it into a nearby boulder, he shook his head. "You are too good at that." He grumbled. His voice, like many of his siblings, was harsh and gruff. If she didn't know him already then she would have assumed he was fairly angry. However, that was not the case. He was actually relieved to see her. No one else had to know that, though. He was not one to show his weaknesses and emotions in such a carefree way. He also still felt guilty for thinking about her so much.
"Yeah, I was looking for you, mouse-brain." He responded grouchily after recovering himself. "It's been a while since I've taken you out--" The large tom paused for a minute, fumbling for the word, which made the whole situation more awkward. "Training." Finally. Why didn't his brain seem to work when she was around? How annoying.

A large smile appeared on her face at his words and she couldn't help but wonder why he was so eager to find her and take her out training. What about the other apprentices? A flash of jealousy coursed through her at the thought. She was happy he was looking for her specifically and would even more happily abide by his words. She nodded and gracefully slinked in front of him to stand tall and proud - at least as tall as the tiny she-cat could, especially tony in his massive presence.
"Let's get going then unless you want to stand around in camp all day." She purred with a smile before turning tail and prancing out of camp, glancing over her shoulder to make sure he was following.

He bit back a sharp remark, knowing full and well that he wouldn't mean it. Usually he would scold an apprentice that even dared to joke in that way. It was a trait that the strongholds had instilled in their young from the very moment they could breathe. However, he couldn't find the courage to scold Briarpaw. It was starting to become apparent that there was nothing she could do to make him lash out. This fact both irritated him and fascinated him. What an odd thing that such a small feline could hold so much power of him without even batting an eye? Did she realize it? He could feel his cheeks beginning to flush at the idea. Oh what was he getting himself into?
Steelstag rose and shook out his thick grey coat before following the smaller cat. His paws, almost twice the size of hers, thumped against the ground rhythmically as he came to stride alongside her. "You're too bold. One day it's going to get you in trouble." He snorted, casting her a smirk through his yellow-amber eyes.

"You're probably right about that. Just be sure to come ad get me when I do get into trouble." She smiled at him, her green eyes sparkling with amusement and something else a little more mysterious. She hummed softly to herself as they walked and kept her pace just a few steps ahead of him the whole time. "So, where are we training today oh big and mighty redguard captain?"
