Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Glowstar giggled and popped her head out from the wheat, "Burningstar, are you there?" She asked in a sing song voice as if it really had to be a secret. Her own clan didn't care that she met with the NightClan leader, but Burningstar's clan would. She hadn't seen Burningstar since the gathering, but since then she had recovered from her illness and had plenty of news to share. She was beyond herself with joy over what to share with her friend. But she also wanted to see Burningstar because leafbare would come and she likely wouldn't see her again for a very long time. Because of the two-leg made crop fields and overall absentee of trees there were no buffers for the cold winds. Therefore DayClan was consumed with blizzards and white outs, hardly surviving. Truly the only time when they struggled. It couldn't be helped unless they moved to a different camp entirely. No one could get in and out to the point that in leafbare there weren't any border patrols. Any clans that wanted to take their territory during leafbare were welcome to, DayClan wouldn't be able to get out to hunt there anyways.
Before the chaos and death Glowstar wanted to see Burningstar again and... Well again at the gathering this coming moon. Still it was just nice to see her friend.
Burningstar had been walking around, patrolling the border in the mid morning light. As leafbare neared it was no longer feasible for the ginger she cat to do her normal nightly swims, as advised by Glowstar to improve her appearance (and that the NightClan leader had come to enjoy as it had been a great way to escape and get some peace during her stressful time as deputy and adjustment to being leader). But with the cold, and her nerves at having to go to BrookClan soon to meet whom Kerrigan would choose to be her mate, Burningstar missed those escapes. So she'd shifted night swims to day swims... the crisp cold water bringing sharp clarity. Though she had to get out quickly after she began swimming. Thus she'd taken to running along the border after her swims before retiring to rest for the day.
Her ears pricked when she heard a familiar voice and she turned her head towards the wheat, amber eyes lighting up when she spotted her friend. "Glowstar!" She purred going over to where the DayClan leader was peeking her head out of the wheat. "How are you?" She asked.
Her eyes lit up when she smiled, "Hey!" She greeted.
Her smile curled up further and then faded before resting on a peaceful smile. She didn't entirely know how she felt. It wasn't entirely hollow, it was just ordinary despite so much happening that even a person like herself knew she shouldn't feel this calm. Glowstar looked back and forth once or twice and then focused on Burningstar, "There's a mystery Burningstar. One day I remember waking up. The next I've been asleep for days. Not only that, but I wake up with a litter of kits. I have no milk, my stomach showed no signs, however when I did have my first litter of kits I also didn't show any signs of being pregnant. And unlike my first litter these kits are bigger. However they are my kits, genetically they have the same easily grass stained fur, their figures are far too similar and fur colors. It's too impossibly close to mine for Foxstar to grab a random pair of kits and trick me that their mine. What is like Foxstar is to convince me that the father is a SunClan cat so she has possession over them. His name is Darkcomplex. Foxstar said I was married to him one day, but she'll get bored of playing pretend. Anyways, I think these kits belong to someone else. I need to solve who the kits real father is so Foxstar and Darkcomplex don't have too much control. Have you seen me with any guys lately? Their not Deals, he's still locked in Primal Instincts, but they gotta be someones."
Glowstar's eyes looked focused on Burningstar's as if Burningstar would have all the answers.
Burningstar blinked, taking a step back for a moment before straightening up taking a moment to process all that Glowstar had said.
"So you had kits," Burningstar said slowly. "But you didn't know you were pregnant, you don't know who the father is," She frowned, she didn't know much about having litters as she hadn't yet had her own. Only taken care of other cats litters. There was also the added element of Foxstar whom Burningstar still didn't know much about. Or about SunClan's culture in general... "You're certain these kits are yours... but they're bigger." Burningstar meowed slowly.
She really didn't have any idea what to even begin to suggest. For Glowstar to not have any idea who the father was? "I honestly wasn't aware you were with anyone besides Deal. Were you around Darkcomplex enough to where they might be his? OR is there any other tom that you think could be connected to these kits?" Burningstar asked slowly. She wanted to help her friend but this seemed like a crazy impossible situation her friend had found herself in.
She cocked her head, revealing the silvery and golden edges of her scars, her claw perched at the edge of her lip. A slow smile rose to her lips, "To be honest it's not like I don't totally have a crush on the guy. Darkcomplex is a hottie. His tongues sharp like a weapon and he looks at the world like everyone's stuck to his web, I love it. So enchanting how he thinks he can wrap things around his little claw tips, it's so innocently evil."
She withdrew her claw from her lips, "But if I'm being honest my memories aren't just especially blurry from the last few days, but also the past few months I feel like chunks are missing as a result of whatever I went through. One thing I know is never trust a liar like Foxstar. The second is be fearful of a guy so honest to me like Darkcomplex. And the third thing I know is that these are my kits. There's a reason my fur remains grass stained green while others grass stains fade."
Her pink tongue washed up against her grass stained green paw, but there was no loss of the green texture, "The white is so unbelievably pure it dyes to anything easily. A family trait. The other is our claws, long, yet inverted in, like a snakes fangs. This is a Renegade trait from my mothers side. My fathers side gives the trait of thin waists so we can move our back legs forward further than most. These kits don't just possess those, but also my physical characteristics. Foxy would have to know these kits would look like me, ensure they're not from SunClan so I wouldn't be able to know of their true origins. And go through the incredible effort or luck that these kits carry those physical traits. But Foxy doesn't play by luck and she's good, but she's not that good."
Glowstar pouted tilting her head once more to the side, "I guess I don't like the idea of cheating on Deal, I love him," She said almost childishly, "But some do carry a black fur color that I do not have and honestly who else would it be? He can have the kits in leafbare, he's not a bad father and I guess I don't deserve Deal anymore. I guess I'll get used to Darkcomplex's company, like I said, totally not a bad one. Deal's just... So special to me."
She turned to look back at Burningstar, her ears wilted downward, "Sorry, I'm talking way too much about my problems, I want to hear about your problems too," She laughed. Her laughter was like a beautiful harmony, addictive and worth hearing over and over again, "I know you have to have some from the distance apart we've been lately," she purred, prodding her friend for news.
Burningstar looked troubled by Glowstar's admittance that she couldn't remember things for such long lengths of time. "I'm a little concerned by your memory loss," She admitted. "That's honestly far worse than what I've been dealing with..."
She shifted closer to Glowstar and rested her tail on her. "From what I've heard about Deal, he has had a lot of flings. If you can't fully recall what happened to these kits coming into this world. Congratulations by the way. I'd love to meet them," She added with a purr before becoming serious. "But seriously, I doubt Deal would hold this against you. Just... explain you don't know what fully happened. Foxstar sounds like the type that she might have had a paw in all your foggy memories and in these kits development. You could've been under the influence of something..." Burningstar meowed. "I mean... StarClan's able to give us extra lives, who knows if there's other forces out there that can do something like block memories, or even herbs that could impair memories? There's a lot of different possible theories that could have caused this. And I doubt any of them were completely your fault."
Then she let out a sigh. "As for me.... well Kerrigan showed up." She bowed her head. "She wanted the kits we took back. And well... Soaringbird and I are attached to the little ones now. I knew I didn't want to give them up, nor did I want to drag my clan into war over them. So I negotiated with her."
"In a few days time, I'll be setting off for BrookClan territory, I've agreed to let Kerrigan plant a spy in NightClan's midst, agree to an alliance with BrookClan where we must assist them whenever they need us, and on top of that... well to allow for that spy, I have to take one of Kerrigan's family on as my mate. To help with their introduction to the clan." Burningstar gulped. "I'm a little nervous actually. I'm hopeful he's a decent tom that I can get along with. I would so love to finally have a cat by my side. But a part of me is worried, that he won't be very nice. And that we won't like each other."
Glowstar shrugged, she wasn't sure if Deal would understand. She wanted to be loyal to people and mean it. She really did love Deal and yet she couldn't control herself somehow. She moved closer into her friend as she began to talk, feeling the cold air whisk around them. When she was done, Glowstar cocked her head and in her sweet as sugar voice said, "Wow, you're kind of a pushover Burningstar," she cracked a grin. It was almost like getting winded from her comment, usually she looked at Burningstar as innocent. Someone surrounded by chaos who only wanted to achieve the better good. But at the same time Glowstar was at heart a Primal Instincts cat. They weren't ones to judge, but when it came to battle strategy it was just as heated as a political topic. Glowstar took a breath, leaning back and away from Burningstar, her gaze looked mountains away from whatever was in front of them.
Glowstar was an anarchist. She could easily plan a war that could demolish a clan. Fake her emotions to gain friends. Climb up the food chain just to wreck havoc on all the lands. It was what she was trained for, born for. But Glowstar found it more amusing to simply walk out of the battle field to see what would happen. She found more of a challenge in creating a true friendship rather than a fake one. And found causing chaos to all the lands would make chaos the new normal and that wouldn't be very fun. Given this nature it felt almost like a missed opportunity for Burningstar to say no to Kerrigan's face to see what would happen.
She gave a worried expression, never a good sign, "I'll tell you what my father told me. Their are two kinds of toms in this world. They're either trapped in a den on fire and you want to save them. Or their the tom starting the fire and you want to change them. It's better to just not get burned. I was a spy for years and I have acquired many temporary relationships to suit the needs of the league. I said all the right things to them and I made them feel special. And if they were suspicious from the start I'd act like we fell in love through some adventure that I started unbeknownst to then. This new mate will be everything you want, I guarantee it. But I equally guarantee that their will be nothing real about it. Cheat on him Burningstar, find a better tom because any tom that's like me isn't good enough for you."
Burningstar listened intently, and she sighed. "I suppose I am. But she was ready to declare war over those kits. I couldn't risk my clan over such a thing." She admitted. "I'm not as unshakeable as you. Your clan loves you for who you are. I'm still trying to find out the type of leader I am. I hate to admit that part of me was bursting with questions. She mentioned that since the kits would believe in StarClan that'd make them inelligible to be members of BrookClan. That makes me wonder what BrookClan believes in."
She sighed and sat down, "And I understand but... a part of me wants to try anyways. I think a part of me is so desperate to have kits of my own. I've taken on kits, I've watched kits grow up that were mothered by others... and I want my own. And I think a part of me wants to believe me and this cat can be happy... if only for a little while. And even if things aren't happy. I'll know that Raspberrykit, Infernalkit, Blazekit and Skykit are happy growing up in NightClan." She looked down. "Although a part of me feels guilty for taking them, I do believe what Rasputin said about Springlockedgrave and that those kits, with all their issues would not have been half as happy with Springlockedgrave as they are in NightClan.
"I know I should've stood firm and stood against Kerrigan, but at the same time. I've opened a connection to BrookClan. I can learn more about their clan. More about their beliefs. And I can learn about their leader... I've always been interested. Because... I remember how much I wanted to be leader. And now that I am... all that ambition has been replaced with this feeling of... well what do I want to do now? I've reached this point. Now what? I almost feel like I got here too soon. You sounded like you had tons of life experience before you became leader. I feel like my lifes a drop in your massive pond of life experiences. So I guess I'm still seeking what type of leader I want to be. But I do know one thing for sure. My clan, my family is of the utmost importance to me. And since this course of action protected both... I'm happy with it."
"Yeah, alright you're love sick, without meeting the guy, I won't try to persuade you otherwise," Glowstar said, a bit shocked that such a thing could happen.
When she was Burningstar's age, love was a menace that everyone did best to avoid. Flings were harmless, getting a mate was the worse thing that could happen to a girl. It was a different time and a different place now, but she couldn't help, but worry. Worry that she would have to kidnap the tom, force feed him herbs that turn off all five of his senses and leave him in such a state for five hours if she was generous and then torment him until he couldn't remember how he got there and release him back. Only if he did something wrong to Burningstar like calling her a name or telling her to improve.
"You don't seem to mind it so I guess it doesn't really matter," She smiled, "Kerrigan's pretty cool anyways. She's got a cute flower crown and she goes on my crazy adventures. Maybe she's being rough right now, but I bet you two will be friends soon enough. If it cheers you up, most arranged marriages are actually good cause they match you with someone they know you'll like. Though usually you go on one practice date before marriage. It's a little weird for her not to do that to make sure the spies capable of integrating, but maybe she's got a lot of faith in the guy."
She knew her brother would have approached this with a oh hell no girl, you tell that princess that you're happy being single and that you do it right. And as much as she wanted to give her that pep talk Burningstar did look happy and even nervously excited. Maybe even if it came from something negative Burningstar would enjoy it.
Burningstar nodded, “I don’t mind,” she agreed. “I mean, am I a little nervous to be going to brookclan in a few days? Yeah a little, Soaringbird’s already spouting these crazy possibilities. But, I’m also excited about what i’ll see and learn. While yeah I’ll be visiting on not great terms. It shouldn’t be too bad. Or Kerrigan will kil me in a ritualistic fashion as Soaringbird keeps saying,” Burningstsr said with a sigh.
“So yeah, that’s the madness of my life. Little nervous, but overall glad I got to talk with Kerrigan rather than fight her. And I think this’ll give me what I need to amend the laws of NightClan to allow us to accept outsiders.” Burningstar said, “Which was really a difficult problem Shiverstar left me with.”
“But, back to your whole... memory loss thing. Do be careful Glowstar. I couldn’t imagine losing you,” Burningstar said honestly looking at the other she cat. Her gaze softening. “You taught me so much, and you helped me get my sister back. If you need anything, anything at all know i’ll Be more than willing to help you.”
Glowstar nodded along with that, Shiverstar had made it a problem to get close to outsiders. She remembered Rookstar broke tradition and didn't allow outsiders in DayClan for sometime after rogues started attacking. When she became in charge a lot happened in just one week. She revealed who she was, gave away her nine lives, and allowed any outsiders to roam on their land so long as they didn't steal their prey or over stay their welcome. It was why DayClan still had border patrols, given how many different scents crossed onto their territory. SunClan and DayClan's scent lines practically blurred, but Moon and Nights borders always seemed fresh and precise.
Her gaze was as soft as a feather as she moved past Burningstar, her fur kissing up against hers before seating down once more next to Burningstar, "Thank-you Burningstar. But. When I have kits it's more like a virus inside of me. My first litter I felt stronger than I ever had before, the kits didn't show and were weak and small. This litter I've lost memory and instead of feeling strong made me weak and the kits came out strong. After all they do have my traits and are mine. But honestly there's no complications. I like flirting and Darkcomplex is a fun outlet I can toy with and he likes playing with the kits," She said with a shadowed grin, before her eyes brightened, "I guess since we both have arranged marriages we could have a double date sometime. Darkcomplex likes to pretend it's a real marriage, the poor guy won't cheat on me. I feel bad for his puppy dog adoration and loyalty to me, he'd probably like the idea of calling it a date and while Deal hasn't returned I'll allow that."
Burningstar brightened, "Oh I'd like that," She said letting out a purr. "I don't know much about my soon to be mate aside from his name, it's Lindon, and that he's Kerrigan's brother but, I'm sure he'd be down for that. I mean you and Kerrigan are pretty close so I doubt he could deny a date night with you." She chuckled. "Is it going to be as much fun as that party you took me too?"
That had been a lot of fun. One of Burningstar's best memories with Glowstar, and it had been the first one where they'd interacted really. Burningstar was still grateful for the older she cat showing her how much was out there. And fostering Burningstar's curiosity making it thirsty to learn and discover new things. Which was rather difficult for being a leader. As a leader you were expected to know things have all the answers.
And while Burningstar cared about her clan and it's wellbeing sometimes she just wanted to go look around and see what else was out there.
"But well, back to the kits and memory loss, do you think that was all from your pregnancy then?" Burningstar asked. She'd never heard of something like that. But, "I'm glad your kits are healthy, even though it put you in dire straits a bit."
"I know my bloodline, there's no way these kits aren't mine. Literally no other cat can have that kind of fur and their physique is far too spot on. Not fox like, thin around the waist and bigger chests because of the bigger lungs. If they weren't my kits though I guess I'd let Foxstar have them, they would technically be SunClan's. A battle with SunClan isn't worth it over the kits as sad as that is to say. I've heard stories of how she's brainwashed kits as young as two moons. And the thing is she doesn't puppeteer her members she hollows them out. Carves out their souls to look just like everyone else's. I once had a spy in SunClan and I saw how she brainwashed her, cut up her soul. I'd try to save my kits if they were hers, but if they don't want to be saved there's nothing that can be done..." She said in almost a whisper, remembering her nieces that ran off, hellbent on revenge.
Her eyes brightened, "But I don't just know it in my heart, I see it in their eyes that they're mine and through that loving gaze I know they're all worth fighting for. I just hope that they're capable of having their own rebellious spirits and to never let it go."
