(I never made a thread for Goldenkit coming to Dayclan so here it is)
The sky was starting to change. What was bright blue was mixing with orange as the sun began to set. By now, most cats were back with their groups. Eating, socializing, sleeping. They were secure. Sure, everyone had their tiffs, but for the most part, they must get along. Even before running away, Phantom-chan was not familiar with that feeling. She was brought in and then forgotten. Before she knew it, she was practically being chased out the door. It never would have lasted. She never would have lasted. So she ran. So fast that one of her back legs fell into a hole. Pulling it out of the hole and out of it's socket, she ran on it anyway. There was no pain, only adrenaline pumping through her blood and wicked smiles that haunted her.
She had wandered for what felt like ages, all day since she could barely face the night. Skin and bones. Too young to learn how to hunt, she had scavenged on leftovers. Nothing new. Her back leg stuck out to her side. A smooth talking loner, proclaiming himself a genius, had pushed it back into place and made her a make shift splint with cobweb and leaves. It hurt a lot, with nothing to mask it. But it felt real. And in a sick way, Phantom-chan was grateful for that.
Not knowing where she was, or where she was going, she barely had the strength to take another step. She stopped. Relatively tall for a kit, she still couldn't see above the grass, only her ears sticking up above the blades. Staggering breaths, the same thoughts replayed in her mind. So pathetic and worthless, would not even Starclan take pity on her. Just a drop, that's all she could ask.
Perhaps the universe was playing a huge cosmic joke, or perhaps it was enacting justice, that Kasdeya was the one to find the kit.
She had arrived in Dayclan in the same fashion, running from the League, a place where she had grown up among others but completely alone. She had arrived, half-starved and half-crazy, and she had been among Dayclan cats for nearly a moon now. She still felt out of place.
This place was so different from Primal Instinct, so welcoming that it made Kasdeya suspicious. She knew how it felt to fight for herself, not to be loved. She still couldn't take a gift without doubting the giver's motives.
The ex-Huntress was absently wandering Dayclan territory, when her mismatched eyes caught sight of Phantom-chan, and her nose inhaled the scent of her demons. Primal Instinct. She stopped short, staring at the small, lonely she-kit.
"Hello. You're from the League, aren't you?" Her voice was flat, but her eyes were curious.

If cats had the capacity to cry, Phantom-chan would have fallen on her face, only capable of staining the ground with tears. But she didn't. She couldn't. Instead, she stared at the she-cat, almost absent-mindedly. Her gut twisted, welling with emotions she wasn't used to. Her only outlet for it was to dig her small claws into the ground. She was grateful. Grateful that someone didn't hiss at her, or chase her off, or slash at her with their claws that were oh so much bigger then hers. It was small, and she couldn't rest easy yet, but it was something. Any life preserver was useful, even if it brought her lower.
She seemed familiar, well her voice did. Phantom-chan wasn't sure, maybe she was just used to being talked to flatly like that. "Y-Yes." Stammering out, she would normally question that. Could she really say she was ever a part of the League? She merely lived there for a short amount of time. But she didn't have the strength.
Kasdeya felt a part of her break, looking down at this small creature. She hadn't ever been around younglings since she had been one herself, and she was sure that she lacked the basic mothering instincts that some she-cats seemed to have. But she saw so much of herself in little Phantom-chan, and she couldn't stop herself from moving forward, her usual spiteful demeanor subdued.
"I'm Kasdeya. Formerly Kasdeya-chan, then Kasdeya-kun. This is Dayclan. I came here myself about a moon ago. Are you hungry?"

Kasdeya. Kasdeya. A small bell rang at the back of her mind, but she couldn't place it. But besides that, she was from the League?! And now she was here? And they happened to meet? What were the odds. It was a strange miracle, a trick of fate. But it was the life preserver Phantom-chan needed. And they could talk about it later, right now she needed to swim.
"Yes." She held back her stuttering, in an odd attempt to make herself seem less pathetic. Not that it did much for one with an unkempt pelt and broken leg.
"Okay," Kasdeya's voice was uncharacteristically gentle as she guided the injured she-kit slowly to a small hollow at the base of a tree. "Stay right here. I'll be back." With that, the wiry she-cat moved off into the forest, only disappearing for three minutes before reappearing, a fat vole swinging from between her teeth. She set it down in front of Phantom-chan, warmth radiating off the prey, fresh and tantalizing. "Eat up."

The flip from flat to gentle, while soft to most, was a little jarring to Phantom-chan. She paused for a moment, but followed Kasdeya. She thought about how this all could just be a trick, like she was gonna be dragged into the woods and killed for the amusement of others. A small pit formed in her stomach. But at this point, it didn't matter to her if she was. This was her only option, her only hope. It must have been odd for Kasdeya to suddenly unknowingly carry the kits final pleas for life, but she was. And if Phantom-chan was gonna get killed, this was better than starving alone.
She sat awkwardly in the base of the tree, not entirely sure why she was brought here of all places. She could only wait here, glancing around at her surroundings. When Kasdeya came back, Phantom-chan closed her eyes, breathing slowly like each was her last. But it wasn't. Her eyes snapped open, staring at the fresh fat vole now sitting in front of her. With a somewhat astonished expression, she quickly thanked the she-cat before devouring the vole in front of her.
"Don't mention it." Kasdeya felt slightly abashed, sitting and watching the kitten eat. She remembered the same feeling of hunger- it was a long journey, and she had been an experienced hunter, while Phantom-chan surely wasn't. Without thinking about it, she leaned forward, grooming away a splash of dirt on the youngling's forehead.
"Is it okay if I bring you to the medicine cat? It's what the clan cats call a Shaman. Your leg is hurt, and they can fix it." Kasdeya felt a hot surge of protectiveness swell inside her- her own life may have been marred by her time in the League, but she was suddenly determined that this tiny she-kit would not walk the same path she had. "You can stay here, and you can have a home here. I know that you don't trust me. I understand. I didn't trust anyone when I got here either. But if you let me show you, you'll see that no one in Dayclan will hurt you, especially not me."

Phantom-chan jumped at the feeling of a tongue on her forehead. Lifting her head mid chew, she stared at Kasdeya, the piece of meat hanging from her jaws. Ears flicking from the alien sensation, she swallowed it quickly. Listening to each of Kasdeya's words with unrivaled attention, she looked down at her paws when she was done speaking. Each word rang genuine and true. Phantom-chan didn't completely trust this yet. But a home? It unnerved her a little. Primal Instinct was supposed to be a home, but that didn't go well. Even the smallest of affection was foreign, and that drew a strange sort of pain in the kit's heart. She didn't like it, not one bit. This was her second chance, her new harbor, her Christine.
She stood up, a little awkwardly, "Phantom-chan. That was my name. I'll go with you, so please end my dark dark night." Her words were stiff, too poetic and tired for one as young as her, but they were real. She wanted to see the dawn break, more than anything else.
Kasdeya watched the kit stand, dipping her head after she finished speaking. She found she didn't have anything left to say, being inexperienced in the art of comforting someone else. So she touched her nose to the kit's forehead. "Can you walk? If not, I can carry you- only if you want me to." Kasdeya cast another glance at Phantom-chan's leg. It didn't seem to be permanently damaged, but she wasn't experienced enough to know.

Phantom-chan didn't flinch away this time, holding her head still. Admittedly, it helped she saw it coming. Her paws hurt. Her muscles cramped. A part of her wanted to be carried. But a shred of pride won over as she nodded. Maybe she got a small taste of League pride before she left, not that it did her much good here. So she stood, and waited for her to lead the way.
Kasdeya moved in the direction of camp, admiring Phantom-chan's willpower. She moved slowly so she could keep up, and the walk wasn't too long. "Flyingcolors is a talented healer. I'm sure your leg will heal right up. How long ago did you hurt it?"

Phantom held a purr in her stomach. She liked proving herself a little, even if she might pay for it later. As for Kasdeya's question, she wasn't sure. It felt like forever ago. Even the day she ran felt like moons ago when it was probably more like days. The cycle of the moon had mostly gone unnoticed by Phantom, as she always retired shortly after sunset. "I'd say it's been at least 5 days." It was only a guess, looking up as orange mixed with pink in the sky.
“You’ve very strong, to have come so far at a young age, especially with a hurt leg,” Kasdeya told her- the journey had taken her three days, but she was a fast, uninjured adult. Even that had been taxing. Kasdeya guided Phantom into camp, and to the medicine den, and stayed with her during the introductions. She had left briefly during the treatment- medical stuff unnerved her- but she had returned an hour later with fresh-kill for Flyingcolors and Phantom.
A few days passed like this, Kasdeya arriving during the afternoon while Phantom healed, bringing food and sitting in companionable quiet with the young one. Eventually she spoke up. “You’re cleared to move out of the medicine den in a few days. You can go to the nursery, or you’re welcome to sleep in my den, if the thought of the nursery is too much. If not, you’re always free to visit me.”

Her chest filled with pride, though it was overrided by a sharp pain in her leg. She kept with Kasdeya as they entered camp.
Over the next few days, she stayed in the medicine cat den. Her leg fixed and slowly healing, she didn't have a chance to meet everyone. Instead, she spent her time talking to Flyingcolors and Vixenpaw, learning about the clan and who was in it. Phantom was extremely grateful for Kasdeya continuing to stay by her side and helping where she could. The vibe was so different. For a cat from the League who had only left a moon ago, Phantom could see Kasdeya's growth in such a short amount of time. It made her happy, excited that she now had the same chance.
Unlike Kasdeya, Phantom was quickly trusting, and spent the last couple days inching closer to Kasdeya until they laid together. Her ears perked at the idea of leaving the medicine den. They were very nice, but Phantom was too curious about everyone else to just stay here. Her heart was big and she wanted to love on everyone. But one thing needed to change.
"I'll try the nursery." Looking up at Kasdeya, she purred "If it gets to be too much, I'll stay with you. And I'll definitely visit you. Before I leave though, I want to change my name."
"Okay," Kasdeya gave her a small smile- funny, how the closest she had gotten to another cat so far was this fellow runaway. She had never laid so close to someone before, letting the small kit press up close to her side. It was nice to have the warmth and touch of another, though she would die before admitting that out loud. She understood Phantom's choice to live with the other kits. If she had been as young, it was likely she would have done the same. But time had eroded her trust in the world, and rebuilding was far slower than losing it. "I'll show you my den once you're settled into the nursery, so you can stop by whenever."
A name change. Kasdeya understood that too, though she felt too connected to her past at this point in her life to think about changing her own. "That makes sense. What do you want to be called?" Kasdeya's blue and orange eyes watched the small creature with a notable degree of warmth.

Phantom was grateful Kasdeya didn't scoot away from her. The simple contact was probably what they both needed. It made her feel safe. Dayclan was great, but there seemed to be an underlying current of chaos. Despite not being acquainted with it yet, lying here with Kasdeya felt calming.
She was the opposite. Phantom was a name that only spelled trouble. One given to her by a father that left her as soon as he can. One tainted with venom and hate in the mouths of others. It made the pain feel truly invisible, like no one else could recognize it. It was otherworldly, even. She wanted to run away, hide from it all, become reborn as a Dayclan cat. She couldn't have predicted it would one day come back to haunt her, but for now it didn't matter. Just something. Anything was better than Phantom.
Thinking back to her meeting with Kasdeya, the first thing that popped in her mind was the sky. The blue stained with orange. The orange mixed with pink. Among the sky, she remembered the clouds. Picture perfect clouds, high above the ground with no worries, and reflecting a quiet golden color. "Goldenkit." She answered, feeling the name in her mouth.
"Goldenkit," Kasdeya responded after a moment of thought, nodding. "I like it." She rested her chin briefly on Goldenkit's head, confused by the own turmoil that churned within her heart. She hoped with all her being that this tiny she-kit would find the life that Kasdeya dreamed of- that she wanted but couldn't seem to reach.
She seemed to be close to it already, and Kasdeya was certain that she would do all she could to help the little creature find it. "Goldenkit... just know that I'm proud of you, okay?" It was a simple statement, but the highest praise that she had ever given anyone, and it rang clear with sincerity.

Phantom, now Goldenkit, knew she'd have to go the leaders to get her name changed officially, and it was a little scary. But she had to, she needed to, for her own sanity. For now though, just laying here was enough. Being affirmed by Kasdeya was enough. They both had troubles, darkness they couldn't shake. While Kasdeya prayed Goldenkit could get the life she wanted, Goldenkit wanted nothing more than to reach her paw down and bring Kasdeya with her. To stand in the light together. She never could have tasted it without the she-cat's help.
Her heart fluttered at the praise, it was the first time she heard such words. Pressing herself further into Kasdeya's white fur, she breathed slowly. The wave of sadness rolled over her, small hiccups shaking her small body. In the fluff of the other's fur, she murmured, "I'm proud of you too."
Kasdeya closed her eyes tightly, fighting down the wave of emotion that threatened to overwhelm her. She may have been only a kit, but no one had ever spoken so kindly to Kasdeya before. She remembered with piercing clarity the desperation she felt as a kit to simply be loved, but having it all thrown back in her face.
What a sad pair the two of them were, two broken she-cats, runaways, lying beside each other in the dim light of the medicine cat den. Kasdeya smiled wryly, but she also knew there was hope. And that one simple fact kept her from giving up. “Thank you,” she said gently in response, giving Goldenkit’s forehead a lick. “You will never know how much you’ve done for me.”
