Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Summernight padded away from his mother's den, his tail waving lazy behind him. He was tired and just a little grumpy, because, as usual, he had wasted the night having fun rather than sleeping like the rest of the warriors. He opened his jaws in a wide yawn, blinking the sleep from his bright yellow eyes. He gazed around camp before his sight fell on the she-cat he was looking for: Kasdeya. She had been found in the territory recently, and Glowstar had given her son the task of showing her the ropes.
"Good morning," he yawned again and jabbed her with his paw, his ginger ears tipped forward curiously as he waited for her to wake up.
Kasdeya leapt to her paws like he had clawed her, her chest rising and falling in a few frenzied breaths until she realized who had woken her. The glare she gave him would have withered the freshest of flowers, and she sat back on her haunches, wrapping her long tail over her feet. Kasdeya had a certain kind of wild beauty, more bewitching than charming- a lean, elegant frame coated with thick cream fur, streaked with light gray along her cheeks and tail. Her eyes were her crowning glory, one a vibrant amber and one a sky blue slashed with a brown birthmark. Her beauty was oddly enhanced by the condescending expression she often wore, like she was some kind of untouchable goddess.
"What do you want?" She asked him, her chin tilted up as she appraised him.
Summernight grinned, unable to help himself, sitting and wrapping his dark ginger tail around his paws. She was beautiful, but Summernight hardly noticed such things. He was much more interested in the world around him, and what lay deep below the surface of others. Looks, whether in friendship or more, barely brushed through his mind. He looked at her raised chin, her huffiness from being awoken from her nap, and knew that it was going to be an interesting day.
"Glowstar wants me to show you the ropes," he told her with a flick of his ear. "I'm Summernight."
"Kasdeya," she mumbled in response, though he likely already knew that. Her tail twitched, and she wondered if she was supposed to apologize for her reaction. She still didn't quite understand clan cats- most seemed to be kind to her, which was a far more alarming treatment than what she was used to. Her ears tilted back slightly, and she twitched her whiskers as she searched for something to say. "Ok. Show me the ropes, then."
Summernight purred and hopped to his feet, loping toward the camp entrance and disappearing out into the territory without another word. He didn't mind that she hadn't apologized, nor was he expecting it. She would come around to know how the clan worked and that her new clanmates were not hostile. He couldn't remember where she had come from, but he assumed one of the groups outside of the clans as she had an odd, un-warrior like name. He paused just outside of camp and looked back, waiting for Kasdeya to follow.
Kasdeya let out a tiny sigh, standing following gracefully. She was back to her previous strength, long and leanly muscled, and she kept pace with Summernight without an issue. "You don't have to teach me how to fight or hunt, you know. I could outperform you in either of those." Her tone wasn't quite prideful, much more fact than opinion. She was a decent hunter, not the best, but her fighting skills were sharply honed and trained, and she fought dirty.
"Are you challenging me?" Summernight asked with a tilt of his head, looking slightly concerned before the corner of his lip turned up into a smile, showing off one of his fangs. "I'm not going to teach you how to fight and hunt," he laughed, turning his head as they started out into the territory. "I'm just showing you around," he added. "I don't doubt your abilities. Where did you come from again?" He asked, throwing a glance back at her with his bright yellow eyes, inquisitive and warm.
"Primal Instinct." Kasdeya answered after a moment, puzzled by the fact that she wasn't being tested. She herself had been a Prison Guard for initiates to the League, and they were never given a tour. They were half-starved, and tested in their physical prowess over and over again. She made eye contact for a second, then looked away, uncomfortable. "Do you know about it?"
"Not much," Summernight frowned. "I'm pretty sure my mother has talked about it before. All I know about those groups seems to be... Bad? I guess would be the right word," he shrugged his shoulders as he led her toward the speckled field. "Not my cup of tea, if I say so myself. I'd much rather enjoy my time than just fight all the time," he looked back at her quickly, "no offence." He fell back to walk beside her. "Can't be all that great if you left to come here, right?"
Kasdeya snorted, dryly amused by the tom's naivety. "Bad is the understatement of the century. They killed my sister at our birth because she was the runt of the two of us. If I had been a little smaller, I'd be dead right now. I left because I was tired of torturing and killing cats. I'd love to enjoy my time as you say you do, but there wasn't much opportunity for that in the League." She kept her eyes ahead as she spoke, steely toned.
Summernight's ears went back against his head for a moment, before he blinked away the thoughts of dead kits and torture. "Well, I'm glad you're here," he smiled, his tone serious. "I suppose it's a good thing Glowstar asked me to take you around, I can show you how to have a little fun," he purred, his tail tip flicking above him excitedly. He saw the speckled field coming into view, full of tall, soft grass and purple wildflowers.
"Fun," Kasdeya grumbled in return, but she didn't seem entirely opposed to the idea. The sight of the field did make her eyes widen- she hadn't seen anything so serene, so beautiful before. It put her on high alert- there could be anything in that long grass. "What do we do here?" She asked Summernight, casting a brief glance in his direction.
"Well, it can be used for quite a few things," the tom waved his tail as he explained. "It's called the Speckled Field. We use it a lot to train apprentices, but it's really good for hunting rabbits and finding herbs," he went on. "I also think it's quite the place to go if you want to relax. It's usually quiet when the apprentices aren't out here," he chucked, remembering his own apprenticeship when he was trained by both Azura and his mother.
Kasdeya forced herself to relax, surveying the gentle movement of the field in the warm morning breeze. "It's very pretty," she said stiffly after a moment, with a quick nod. "Seems useful, too. It's uh... a good field."
Summernight snorted with laughter and looked at her, appreciating that she was trying to enjoy herself. "I have an idea," he perked up, his ears tall on his head. Without another word, he took off at a run through the Speckled Field, dust flying up and floating in the hazy afternoon light. The dark ginger tom could just be seen above the tall see of grass as he hopped toward the edge that met a tall forest.
"This is really more of a game than an idea," Kasdeya said- mostly to herself, since he was pelting through the field at top speed. With a light sigh, she followed in her easy, loping pace. His trail wasn't hard to follow- the grass still swayed in his wake, and she eventually caught up to him by the forest's edge. "Are you trying to show off how fast you can run?" She asked him slowing to a stop. "I've definitely seen faster."
If she were following any other cat, they might have been annoyed by her sarcasm or pessimistic views, but her words just seemed to roll right off of the dark ginger tom. Summernight slowed and looked back at her, "No," he said, with a flick of his tail. "I'm taking you somewhere. You think this is impressive, there's a part of the territory that lots of the others don't even know about," he looked proud that he knew such information. "Glowstar showed it to me as an apprentice."
"Lovely. I can be in the loop." She meant her response to be sarcastic, but it came out more neutral than anything else. "How big is Dayclan's territory, anyway?" Primal Instinct had moved twice in her lifetime, and boundaries and places often blended in her mind. If she wanted to stay here more permanently, she supposed she would have to learn.
"It's quite large. I don't know how big compared to other clans, aside from SunClan. I lived there for a little while after they kidnapped Glowstar and I went to find her," Summernight mused. "I owe her my life, you know," his ears went back against his head as he pounced over the tall grass, moving at an impressive speed beside the waving earth. He had almost lost her, and he felt even more lucky that they had both returned to DayClan alive.
"Ah," Kasdeya nodded, not sure what else to say. She followed him as they moved through the territory, mentally noting landmarks in her head as they went. After a few moments she spoke up again. "I've heard a lot about the whole thing with Sunclan. What exactly went down? Why were you all fighting?" Primal Instinct fought with, well, everyone- it was kind of their thing. But the clans seemed to have some kind of honor code that prevented them from doing that. There had to be a reason to this war, right?
