Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.

( This is the RP thread for the JANUS TRYOUTS. You will not be considered for the position if you do not reply to both the tryout thread and this thread, or if you already have a SunClan position. However, anyone and everyone is welcome to reply to this thread with their SunClan kit or apprentice, even if you're not actually trying out for the position of Janus. The current Janus/Soothsayers/Priestess Promised, are all free to reply with their characters of those ranks as well. <3 )
Each day Foxstar was gone, the empty Janus positions just seemed more and more glaring. These cats were the future Priests and Soothsayers of the clan, and even more than that, they were important to keep the clan's history, cultivate herbs, and were considered some of the strongest in the clan. To have vacancies just seemed to invite more trouble from the Regime, and so they'd chosen to take the kits and apprentices out for some tests. The Sun God would, of course, ultimately be the one to choose who gained these positions, but the Janus would first choose their own candidate from those they saw today. Most cats of the clan wanted their children to try out, and so there was the expectation for quite a few to show up, even if the young cat didn't really want to be there.
To help with their decision, three tests had been devised. The first would be run by Mountainsound and Littlebird, testing the cats' knowledge of the most basic herbs. The second would be run by the Soothsayers, testing their potential in omen seeking. And the last would be run by the Janus themselves, wherein they would take turns asking the potential nominees whatever sorts of questions they wanted, to get a feel for their personalities, interests, skills, whatever they felt relevant after watching them in the first two tests. Though not technically testing their abilities, it was a test to impress cats that most really didn't know anything about, and whether or not they would actually answer truthfully, or just try to make themselves seem better than they were.
Tension seemed the ripple through the air as Mountainsound waited, tail curled calmly around her paws, a spread of herbs already sitting before her. "I wonder how many will show." The former medicine cat commented curiously, trying to keep a smile on her face. Nightshadeintuition had recently been captured by the Regime, and the feline truly did want to go to DayClan and insist that Glowstar get him freed, she was close with the cats there after all. But for now, she had to focus on this, and she was glad for the distraction, and the chance to interact with her granddaughter, Twilightbell, even in a formal setting.
( I would also like to note, your characters do not have to get everything right, even if you are trying out. They should just be trying their best, maybe get some things right, some things wrong, etc. This thread is also when Dragonswrath is still Soothsayer, so as far as these cats know, it's only a Janus tryout, but of course, a Soothsayer Promised will be chosen as well when tryouts officially end. )
Silkenpaw stomped through the undergrowth, just promoted and not even a week out of the nursery he was already proving to be the worst sort of problem case. He argued with his mentor constantly, regularly disappeared from training, and upset the other apprentices just for a bit of fun. The pale gray tabby thought none of it was truly a big deal but it seemed his mentor hadn't agreed. Had told him he had to attend informal sort of tryout for Janus position to show him what a real example of Sunclan cats were, or else. The or else had been open ended but the young tom had seen dark things in his mentors eyes and thus smartly decided to for once listen to them for once.
So here he was pushing towards Mountainsound with a grimace, eyeing the older cat with barley veiled distaste. At times he wondered why he'd been born into this clan; fitting in among the others seemed a task way beyond his capabilities. "Well, I'm here." He spoke as he plopped down in front of her, shoulders hunched as he sent a glance around, suddenly struck by the realization he was the first one. "Wait! I forgot something!" He rushed out, hurriedly tripping back to his paws and whirling around to rush off. There was no way he was going to be stuck with stuck up older cats one on one until someone else arrived. He was suffering enough as it was just being forced to attend at all.
Unfortunately for the tom, Mountainsound, even being blind, was quicker than he, and the Senator was already on the move before he had the chance to race off, blocking his path. "You're already here, you're not going anywhere, so sit down." Her words were sharp, and final. One, because this could mess with the test. He'd had a glimpse of the herbs, and could theoretically run off to try and get someone to tell him all about them before everyone else showed up, which was an unfair advantage. Two, because she knew who he was. There was no cat in SunClan who didn't, and the tom was already treading dangerous territory. He was only just an apprentice, and that meant he wasn't considered a full fledged member of SunClan yet. Disobeying his mentor, or any warrior for that matter, broke the clan's code, and he already seemed inclined to test just how far they were willing to punish him.
To be quite honest, the usually gentle feline was already running low on patience. Between Foxstar's recent actions and her son's capture, Mountainsound wasn't about to have him decide to be troublesome and mess with the entire test. Not to mention the fact he stood in front of the highest ranked cats of the clan. The Priestess Promised, the Soothsayers, the Janus, all cats chosen specifically by their deity for the rank they now held. Few cats would consider it wise to anger those who held the Sun God's favor in such a way. Of course, Silkenpaw didn't really seem to care.
Skipstep stood close to Littlebird, the Janus's tail partially resting against her, unable to stay far away from his mate while she carried his kits. He considered Silkenpaw when the young tom arrived, and his eyes narrowed when Silkenpaw attempted to turn tail and flee. Already not off to a great start.
But he did understand, he'd become a Janus much older than Silkenpaw, attained through sheer force of will and drive to try and become close enough to the Sun God in hopes of attaining answers on why the soothsayer he had once loved had disappeared after he admitted his love to her. There had been no answers, but the Sun God had blessed him with Littlebird. The tan and black tom cast grey blue eyes to his mate. And he would be forever indebted for the closeness to her his position among the Sun God's Janus granted him. For that he would serve the Sun God faithfully till death.
He returned his focus to Silkenpaw. He wondered what drew the young apprentice to come before them. He recalled Jetclaw, currently training an apprentice, muttering about a recently promoted apprentice who was giving his mentor grief. Was it this young tom?
Silkenpaw sat, frown more pronounced as he shifted uneasily. Not due to the pressure or the precarious position he had placed himself in within moments of arriving but because his internal distaste for this whole affair. There was no reason for him to be here, just looking at the Janus and gathered cats it was clear Silkenpaw could never be among their number; or perhaps it was more accurate to say it was apparent to Silkenpaw that he never wished to be among their number.
Herbs were boring, history was dull, and having to live in an underground camp with just the other Janus seemed like it would drive him to madness sooner that his sister would.
"Yeah, Silkenpaw. Just go back and sit down." The voice was a hiss and Goldenpaw pushed her way through the foliage to stand beside Mountainsound. Her golden gaze boiling into his green ones as they filled with disapproval. "I don't even understand why you're even here. You bring disappointment to this family. It's exhausting having to clean up after your messes." She complained loudly, not really caring that the higher ups could hear every insult she spewed his way.

Acaiburst was situated not far from Moutainsound and he watched the interactions with both Silkpaw and Goldenpaw, the only two candidates who had showed up so far. Acaiburst had been a Janus pretty much as long as he could remember and he wasn't much older than these two, although he had his full name since he was barely a couple moons old. His golden gaze observed them thoughtfully, he wanted to avoid passing judgement too quickly but so far Silkenpaw seemed very timid and Goldenpaw like a bully. He didn't know the details but wasn't particularly impressed by her harsh words or actions. "This will be an individual assessment based off of your own merits and judgement." The tabby said aloud, not particularly directed at either of them but more as a generalized statement. "The Sun God is the only one who gets to decide who is and isn't worthy of standing as a Janus."

Littlebird gave Skipstep a little smile, before pulling away and striding over to the two apprentices. Today wasn't the day to get on Mountainsound's bad side. The she-cat had been tense lately, but at least she didn't have to worry about her going easy on any of the potential janus members. "Acaiburst is correct, it would be best to save your energy for the tests to come. The sun god will be watching" ~~~~~~~~~~~ [None of my kits/apprentices are up for a position, but are here to make the tryout more realistic]
Before anyone else could speak, a flash of white fur came bounding into the clearing behind the apprentices. Laughter filled the air, as Romancepaw pushed himself between the two siblings but his eyes were on Goldenpaw "Hey giiirrrrrlllll" he drwaled out, unable to read the tense atmosphere around him. Or perhaps he just didn't care. "My bets on your sweet thing"@hinata
Slipping in more quietly was Romancepaw. The dark red tom sat slightly apart from the other apprentices, his fur glimmering in the light. He had never showed any interest in becoming an janus before, but now that he was with Autumngossamer it only made sense for him to try out. They day she had agreed to be with him, he had promised to give his everything to her. If he could become a Janus, that would mean they could be together more often. He just hoped that he wouldn't embarrass her today. He didn't know much about herbs or omens, but she had been helping him study a little. Faith
Unseenpaw nervously entered into the clearing. She was old enough to be promoted to a warrior, but her blindness had held her back. She didn't really want to be here, but it was expected of her. She was the daughter of a soothsayer and her mentor had made it clear that she didn't have any options. It was do well during these tests, or face the consequences. She shuddered at the thought, keeping her head down.
Blazingkit and Owlkit made their way over, the two little toms talking to each other about the rabbit that someone had managed to bring back the night before.
Lionpaw finally made an apperance, muddy paws and all. He had been out hunting, trying to avoid going. Unfortunately, his mentor had hunted him down and insisted.
Not picking up on the fact that Acaiburst was referring to her, she let out a chuckle. "Yeah, Silkenpaw. They'll be judging us on our merits and judgment, two things you don't have. It'll be a miracle if the Sun God picks you." She said rather snootily.
She hadn't expected the sudden appearance of Romancepaw and she felt her pelt shiver as he leaned in real close to flirt. She took a step back and swung her head to the side as a sign of defiance. "My bets on you being destroyed." She hissed in response with a hmph afterwards, her cheeks protruding out as she pointed her nose towards the sky. When would the tom finally get the hint that Goldenpaw wasn't interested? He was always flirting with her.

Goldenpaw's defiance only made her that much appealing to Romancepaw, even though half the time that he was flirting with her it was more of a ruse. She had made it clear that she wasn't interested, but he didn't give up quite so easily. If she had just given him a chance, he would have stopped a long time ago but his philosophy was that you couldn't know for sure until you tried. Once she-cats gave him a chance he would try them out, and then break up with them if he couldn't see them staying together long term "You beauty always destroys my defenses darling" he countered, unphased by her snobbish attitude.

Light paw steps announced a new arrival to the group of cats, a ruffled white she-cat laced with silver and gray she looked slowly from one cat to another her ice blue eyes calm. Dovepaw stepped further into the chaos that surrounded and gave a single nod of greeting to the cats around her, as her eyes found Mountainsound she picked her way delicately so that she may sit a short distance from the neat herb piles she had placed on the ground. Dovepaw let her gaze take in what each cat was saying and watched as Goldenpaw berated her brother with her words and pulled her gaze away only when she heard the voice of Acaiburst hit her ears. He is right, only the Sun God will know. She kept her thoughts short as not to miss anything, she kept her eyes and ears open and her mouth shut even as Romancepaw and the group with him appeared among the other cats. Dovepool let an almost inaudible puff of air escape through her nose and curled her thick tail so it lay covering her forepaws.
Silkenpaw knew better than to let his sister ruffle his fur, he knew better. And yet his upper lip curled up to revel sharp little fangs and he sent her a look that promised retribution. Not willing to push his luck anymore than he already had. But internally he imagined ripping his sisters tongue out and making her eat it; perhaps that would teach her to hold it better. Just the fact she was so adamant about him not worthy of being here had all his early thoughts towards much the same thing being pushed aside. He would try his best if only to take the spot from Goldenpaw herself.
He could already imagine the distraught look on her face should she not be picked by the sun god while watching her failure of a brother be picked. It would be beautiful. Straightening from his hunched position to sit up straighter. Though slim and diminutive in stature as he was it did little to make him look any more intimidating. But the hardened sheen in his green eyes spoke towards a new resolve, and he gave a few quick licks to his messy gray tabby pelt as a sudden and hurried failure of an attempt to present a better image.
The motion was aborted soon after. He didn't need to be picked, he didn't need to impress anyone. All Silkenpaw needed to do was make sure Goldenpaw wasn't picked.
So, head still down as he looked at his chest, he let his expression morph into something softer. Let his eyes grow round and expression downturn before looking up once more to simply send Goldenpaw a sad look. As if he actually cared for her opinion or words and was hurt by them. A foolish notion but at-least some of those around them would be fooled and hopefully it would turn their opinions against his sister. Would have them offering no help later down the line.
racer @blankslate "And your ugly face always makes me barf, now buzz off." Goldenpaw hissed off in response as she put out a paw preparing to push the overly flirtatious tom away if she had to. She almost didn't notice the puppy dog eyes Silkenpaw was giving her through the drama occuring between her and Romancepaw. For a brief moment, her heart skipped a beat as guilt washed over her.
Did I actually hurt his feelings this time?
She realized how stupid the thought was almost instantly as the look of guilt disappeared from her face and was replaced with a look of pure annoyance. Her cheeks puffing out as she put her nose towards the air. Her brother was a total manipulator since he was born, and it was clear to her that the sad look was nothing but a show to make the others around them feel sorry for him. It annoyed the hell out of her when he did that and she wasn't about to apologize for something that didn't truly upset him.

Still watching from her place a few tail lengths away Dovepaw had to suppress the smile that caused the corners of her mouth to twitch, to her surprise she found herself enjoying the show being put on by the other apprentices; it was pure stupidity to her. She wanted to get on with this test, something most of the others came to because they were forced but not her, she had come willingly and she wanted to prove that she deserved it. "Such nonsense." The words slipped out before she could catch them, her honey smooth voice echoing louder than she wanted. oh well, I've already said it. She kept her eyes on Silkenpaw and Goldenpaw wondering if they had heard her and almost even wishing they had if only for her own satisfaction that they know their actions were nothing more than kit behavior.

"Aw now darling you shouldn't say such things about your future love" the white tom didn't move forward again though, not ready to push it quiet that far yet. "I have other fish to catch, but I will circle back around" he purred with a little wink, leaving but making sure that it was on his terms and not hers. She wouldn't have a victory with him either, and sure enough sooner or later he would be back to try his luck once more. Romancepaw was after all, a hopeless romantic. What better story to tell his future kits than this?
Silkenpaw raised a brow towards Dovepaw, sad little grin tensing around the edges as he slowly let it morph into something a little meaner. Dovepaw could think what she liked, as much as she liked to believe herself different than them it would never change the fact she was just as young as they were. A child playing pretend, one deluded enough to think they were an old soul. If she had to deal with his sister everyday she would think differently, but there was no point arguing that with her. He knew the type, thinking they were above and beyond such things, as if they were untouchable. Truly it was boring, a dull overdone work that spoke of little inspiration to actually be better than they were. One could go on touting how great they were as much as they liked, it mattered little unless they proved it. Blinking he realized Dovepaw was not all the different than Goldenpaw; they would be wonderful friends if they weren't also so alike. The same coin but holding different sides.
"Are we waiting for anyone else?" He asked Mountainsound, feeling enough time had passed for him to safely speak. A silly little notion but it seemed Romancepaw was content to play with the mouse that was Goldenpaw. And she seemed content to spend her time berating her brother. Dovepaw was trying to hard to act above them it was sickening. Thus it left him to speak up and hopefully get the show on the road, not afraid of being rude.
The words of Dovepaw hit her eardrums and she turned her furious gaze towards the apprentice. Her lip curling up in the beginnings of a snarl as she stomped the paw that she was using to hold Romancepaw back into the dirt. Her fur bristled as she stood up, her tail lashing back and forth.
Who does this chick think she is? Only I can talk to my brother that way.
She thought bitterly. She wasn't about to let this slide as she stormed past Mountainsound to stand directly in front of Dovepaw. Her face only a few meters away from Dovepaw's as she spoke. "I agree. Silkenpaw is full of nonsense, but watch your tone, brat. You're no better then we are." She hissed out. It was almost as if the siblings were truly intertwined, unknowingly speaking what the other was thinking, Goldenpaw acting as the voice to Silkenpaw's thoughts.

Dovepaw looked to Mountainsound ignoring the glare Silkenpaw had given her because of her comment, as Silkenpaw spoke out, she knew what the tom was thinking and she agreed with him; she was ready to get this started. "If they haven't shown up by now then I think it's safe to say that this is it." She spoke openly, her words soft but holding little emotion. Her attention was caught by the sound of Goldenpaw stomping toward her but as she glanced toward the she-cat her ears flattened and her pelt bristled having her in such close proximity, her face such a short distance from her own she could feel Goldenpaws hot breath.
"Honestly, the brunt of my words were directed at you." The words slipped through gritted teeth in a hiss as her chest fur ruffled, Dovepaw stood facing Goldenpaw and took a small step forward closing the already small gap between their faces. "What are you going to do about it?" She narrowed her cold blue eyes as she spoke, her tail swishing behind her in an irritated manner
Silkenpaw's eyes were drawn away from Mountainsound, following his sisters progress across the small space and curiously watching her invade Dovepaw's space. Her words had him bristling, he had no desire to have her start throwing nonexistent weight around in defense of him. Not when it was she herself he opened others minds up to ridicule towards him. His earlier comment about the two being alike came to mind again and he didn't even bother trying to bite back his laughter.
"Honestly, it's like the two of you are long lost siblings. Maybe Dovepaw can take my place Goldenpaw and you two can ridicule each other." He choked out between little laughs as he struggled to choke it down once more. Casting a glance towards the others cats as he tried to bite back his mirth. The whole situation seeming so outlandish to him he wondered what rabbit hole he had fallen down and how to find his way out again.
Silkenpaw's words cut the tension quickly as Goldenpaw's attention was drug someplace else. The tabby she-cat twirled around to face her brother. Her fur still bristling as her golden gaze boiled with frustration and anger. "I would rather die then be related to a brat." She hissed out, her tail lashing to the side to point at Dovepaw. The first offhanded compliment that Silkenpaw had probably received from her since they were kits. At least Goldenpaw didn't envision Silkenpaw a brat, or maybe he was one just rather a step below Dovepaw in brat ranking. Nobody would ever know.
She huffed through her nostrils as she stomped away to stand beside Mountainsound, awaiting the blind she-cat to guide them towards the first challenge, all the while shooting daggers Dovepaw's way.
