Mother E'tani moved towards the part of the main house the younglings were hidden away, the desolate halls echoed with their squeals and cries. She moved towards the archway leading into the large room holding walls full of tall glass windows. A room that gave the younglings plenty of light but also one might argued made them easily accessible. The she-cat hadn't found it in herself to care to hear those arguments and thus it was where they were settled.
As she moved into the entryway she watched them; so few that they were. Most the former shaman Morgana's kits, she would not choose one of them. Already tainted as they were by Vera's blood within their veins. No she needed a clean slate, something fresh to build upon.

One would think she was one of Morgana's, with how similar she looked to them. But Brilliance stood out among them all. Whether the crowd was small or large, it never took much for all eyes to fall to her. She held herself high, far higher than any youngling would. Even one as small as her already had large aspirations. To stand above the rest, and find her own brilliance. But whether she could do it on her own was a concern. Maybe she could use a little guidance, not that she expected any with the way she was ostracized.
For now, with most others off doing their own thing, she played with a old piece of moss turned into a ball. Slamming it into one of the walls, she barely even needed to watch the bounce for her to be able to catch it and slam it into the ground underneath her. Digging her claws into it curiously, she kneaded it a few times before letting go and batting it towards the entrance.

Her paw came down to trap the moss under it, golden eyes following it's path back to the source. Peering towards the youngling she considered her; as far as she was aware the kit wasn't one of Morgana's. Though she couldn't claim to know how many kits the former shaman had had this one sat away from the ones she was aware of. While it wasn't apparent if she was being shunned or the younglings had just naturally divided as such she was apart from them and on her own.
Considering she decided to see what the young thing would do now that she had the moss ball. She was still new as nemesis and was curious if the kit even knew who she was. Would she be shy and just move on to a knew came, or would she approach to ask for her makeshift ball back.

She paused, now standing in front of the white she-cat. Mostly kept away from the main part of the group, she wasn't the most familiar with who exactly was who and what positions they had. She'd heard whispers of a new nemesis, but the queens(?) never gave any details. They spoke and spat low. But not many bothered to come this way, fewer who looked like her. Held the same aura as her. Walked like her. And looked straight through Brilliance like her.
"Pardon me. Might I have my ball back?" She asked, straightening herself up some and tilting her head to look at the she-cat's face. A twinge of nervousness stung at the back of her throat, but she kept her tone calm and confident.

"Walk with me instead?" The she-cat responded, raising a brow in question. But despite all that she still turned and started walking off down the hall once more anyway. Leaving Brilliance standing in-front of her moss ball and watching the Nemesis retreating steps. Left if the choice of following the cat she didn't know or going back to her game. Mother E'tani would be fine with either outcome, as if Brilliance stayed behind she would know the other wasn't the right choice.

Brilliance-chan blinked, attempting to clear her vision like she saw a ghost. The nursery continued as normal. Younglings whined for their mothers, the air stained with the scent of milk. Someone was being scolded in the back. It was the same, always the same. Nothing would change. She would go back to her corner, playing the same game. And no one would mind her any mind, the same game. Her eyes bored down at her mossball, staring at the indent in it that threatened to split the ball in two. It was no ghost. The tales she heard of them would send shivers down her spine, but this wasn't the same. Those eyes weren't the same.
A queen would turn her head at the sudden sound of footsteps. They were fast and hard, but light to everyone bigger than a youngling. She'd tilt her head in confusion, but go back to tending her kits as Brilliance-chan threw away the game. The only evidence of her existence left behind was the crumpled moss ball.

"Good choice." Mother E'tani hummed as he tail waved behind her, words echoing in the empty hall as her steps carried them through it. The others chasing after her until she regained the ground she had lost in the time of making her decision. The older she-cat carried them through the first floor halls with no words spoken to the youngling trailing her, choosing to walk in silence. Curiously she wondered if the little siamese had yet to explore the first floor. Chances were slim she had seen it all yet, there were many room and each held their own treasures, it would take some time to move through them all if one was a youngling.
She slowed as she passed under what was probably once a brilliant white arch. Standing on a small balcony, with stairs on each side that lead down to a lower floor. She padded down those stairs and into the center of the room before turning to face back the way they had come. Towards the bloody pool with red water and eyeballs floating within the wicked waters. A leftover from Marchosais and the bloody test he had sent the assassin on to prove herself.
She waited for the youngling she didn't didn't know the name of to join her in the center of the room.

Brilliance-chan slowed as she approached the white she-cat, not fully expecting her to slow down for her. Taking a deep breath, she followed along. Her mind raced with questions. What did she want with her? Where were they going? Most importantly, just who are you? Those answers would come soon, she knew. It didn't alleviate her impatience to know, but she also couldn't quite open her mouth to ask. Something kept it shut, like a muzzle. It was a curious and alien feeling, that now she suddenly had to wait for the key.
She did. Keeping up with Mother E'tani, she got to distract her mind with staring at the manor as it came and went. Once a beautiful and refined place, now in worn down and in shambles. She hadn't strayed far from the nursery, so most of this was new to her. Every room held a mystery, cracked doors only offering a passing glimpse inside as they continued. Her mind wasn't quieted, only jumping from here to there in an excited haze. Dropping off the step, she approached the nemesis in the center of the room. Following her gaze, her young eyes landed on the pool. The macabre sight was bad enough for the soft youngling, but it was the smell that almost got her. Nose spoiled by the scent of milk, the sudden whiff of blood and flesh almost made her gag. It took everything in her not to run out of the manor, or at least hide behind the nemesis. She shook still, despite it, and looked up at the white she-cat; silently begging her to move on while a new emotion hit her gut. Fear.

"Do you know little dove what sort of home you have been born into?" She asked softly as she stared towards the stagnant water. When she had first taken the league into her paws, when she had first settled herself to being it's keeper she had been torn on what to do with this room. Where the evidence towards the brutality league cats held in their hearts was painted clear for all to see. Marchosais had been considered a softer nemesis by all standards as well, and having this pool as a legacy painted a clear tale towards what sort of cats came into the league and made it their home.
"That is the eyeball pool, filled with eyes from cats all over the land. Other revolutionary groups, the clans, rouges and loners. Any cat that fell prey to the assassin." She explained tone soft though it carried easy in the cavernous room. "I keep it, because this is the room I receive guest in usually you see." She hummed and a rare expression of sadistic glee creeped itself onto her features. She waved her tail behind them where the entry door laid cracked open, the upper hinge broken and leaving it perpetually open; a little gate to hell. Not the main entrance but a side entrance hidden from the casual observer. Where one might sneak in, only to find a thing of nightmares.
"Why do you think I kept it?" She asked curious towards what the youngling might consider though the hints were clear to see.

"To make an impression...?" She tilted her head. It made the most sense. If you had to visit someone and they had... that, it would certainly show you they meant business. I mean, who else keeps a pool of eyes but... Wait, she had heard of this. Heard that the nemesis made this assassin do this to prove her worth or something along those lines. To fill a small pool with eyes. It was certainly what she expected from her home, a gruesome trial that separated the weak and the strong. Still why would this cat say she kept it, like she had the option to get rid of it? And this room was where she met cats? No one just has their own room to meet cats in. Only those of power do. Power. Power. Power. Wait, wasn't there...
Her chest tightened. She couldn't say the suspicion was true until she said otherwise, but there was a good potential this was the new nemesis. But what could she want with Brilliance-chan of all cats? Her blood was okay, nothing note-worthy. Still, she had to hold herself still. The weak and the strong. The divide here was like black and white. If she wanted to survive, she had to get stronger, feign strength for now.

"Yes" Mother E'tani agreed, "first impressions are crucial you understand don't you?" Golden eyes like marble stones plucked from the ground staring down at the youngling, ragged ear pulled back. A statue carved from the stone gathered by their own miseries and trials of their first life. "You may be born without the titles some clans treasure, be at a disadvantage when born surrounded by those who possess parents renowned by those around them. But it's not about that, it's about the impression you make."
Pushing forward she waved her tail, "come." She called pleased even if she had given her only a few words. She had not run, she had no vomited, she had stood her ground and she had choked out something to tell her. She had passed her first test, the first of many to come. Now it was to let her know what she wanted from her, to teach her where her new place would be if she could keep up with the Nemesis. "My name is Mother E'tani, you can call me Mother."
Craning to look down and behind her she waited for the youngling to tell her her own name as she lead them out of the macabre room and through the halls once more to get to the main staircase; to the second floor they went.

"Brilliance-chan." Her voice was terse as she followed Mother, relieved they were moving out of the pool room. So, she was the nemesis. She was right. It makes sense she'd get confused, she was surrounded by mothers so hearing about another would have given her no rise. And she gave the right answer, it seemed. A stroke of confidence rose in her throat, but it wasn't over yet. It was only the beginning.
It was true, she had no blood impression. Her parents were distant memories. The only ones who would know them were themselves or whoever brought her to the League. It doesn't matter. She had to build her own impression. She practiced and trained, day in and day out. It was to follow her dream, but it also gave her an impression. A perfectionist, stand off ish, talented, maybe even important. She had built something out of nothing, a status that was only known to the younglings and mothers for now but would soon expand.
Still, what was Mother's end goal here? Those words tickled her tongue again, but held back again.

"A bold name." The she cat noted as she lead them down a dark hall, to a hidden doorway that would go easily unnoticed. Silence falling between then as the youngling held her tongue and the nemesis waited to reach their destiation before speaking again. Pushing in-between the crack and blinking at the brighter light that penetrated the room from the large windows that laid across the right wall. A couch sat directly across from the door and Mother made her way towards it, jumping up to perch upon the surprisingly soft cushion for how long it had probably sat in this abandoned manor.
"Bold names sometimes lead to foolish decisions." She finally spoke once more, tilting her head. "You don't strike me as foolish Brilliance-chan. No you have potential, potential I would like to explore." The nemesis thought carefully about what she said next, knowing she could easily scare the young cat off if she came on to strong. "I would like to take you under my wing so to say. You see I can't have kits of my own, but I ache to be a mother." Not true but little white lies would come frequently from her, it would be interesting to see how long it too Brilliance-chan to develope the ability to detect them.

Brilliance paused in front of the hidden door, already impressed with all the secrets this manor seemed to hold. And that she could barely call her findings scratching the surface. Stepping into the room, she squinted instinctively as the light hit her in the eyes. Blue eyes blown out as she stumbled forward a few feet, she blinked the light out. Dark spots formed in her vision, and ahead of her she could only see Mother E'tani's silhouette. It was like her white coat was completely submerged in darkness, only her amber eyes left untouched. It was then that Brilliance-chan felt a shiver run up her spine, as if she had just been reminded where she was. And who she was dealing it. The Nemesis' word was law, and she had no reason to question her. As color came back into her vision, she wondered which was real and which was fake.
Approaching the couch cautiously, she didn't immediately jump up on it. She stood in front of her instead, "I see. And what kind of exploring do you have in mind?"

"Nothing to intensive, your just a child after all. Though that says nothing towards what we could do in the future." Mother E'tani responded, delighted by the younglings cautiousness. Most younglings would be blinded by an older high position cats interest in them. Would immediately fall into the foolish practice of doing whatever they could to keep the attention even if it meant corrupting themselves into something monstrous. Not that the nemesis wanted the from Brilliance-chan, no she simply wanted perfection and excellence.
"We would build your skills, I would make you one of the top trainees of the league." She further explained. "I don't want to make you into something your not. I choose you because I like you as you've shown me so far. No reason for me to change you into something else, if I were to do that I could have picked anyone. No Brilliance-chan I want to nurture your potential, to make you a star member of the league."

Brilliance-chan looked down, tiny claws flexing into the carpet as she thought. Their goals were the same. Brilliance wanted to become the best, a star member, perfection, brilliance; and would work till her paws cracked and bled to get there. And Mother E'tani wanted to get her there. Not anyone, not one with prideful blood or recognition. But her, the orphan. It was a good feeling, like her efforts or even just herself was being recognized and almost, loved? Though that was a far conclusion, it's always nice to be wanted. But the feeling was also alien and she held tight to a shred of doubt.
It was never that simple, the League was never that simple. In a place where you use and abuse others, blind faith was a silent killer. Mother E'tani said it was because she couldn't have kits, but would she go to the trouble of bringing someone up throughout their entire life? If Brilliance had that, she would try to become a den mother or something like that, not take on one orphan kit as a protoge.
Still, she had no reason to doubt other than that shred. There was so much ahead of her in this deal, and very little to leave behind, "Alright, I'm interested. What's the catch? Assuming there is one." She hadn't moved from her spot on the floor, eyes shining with curiosity rather than suspicion.

"Catch?" Mother E'tani responded with a small grin carving across her features as she let a little bit of herself free. It would be tiring to be a statue constantly around Brilliance-chan if they would spend as much time around each other as she thought they might. A little airy laugh escaped her before she shook her head and focused on the youngling once more. "See Brilliane-chan you're already proving I made the perfect choice. It's a shame so many young cats in the league take so long to catch on to the sort of place their living in."
Leaning back she wrapped her tail around her paws and briefly glanced on the large windows to her left as she considered what to say. Turning back to the youngling she shrugged one shoulder, "the catch is you do what I say and you don't let me down." The words seemed inconsequential, easy enough tasks really. But Mother E'tani wanted Brilliance-chan to know what she was signing up for, she supposed she owed the little thing that much for being smart enough to even ask about the catch. "Let me down, or go against me, and well I'll hang you out to dry." The final words were dark as Mother pinned golden eyes to the siamese and raised a single brown. A silent question if she understood.
"But we should be fine, you seem like a quick study."

She found her mouth dry, a pit forming in her stomach. If she let the Neme-, no, Mother E'tani down, she'd die. It was exactly what Brilliance-chan expected, but just hearing it implied and feeling Mother's eyes on her were like claws on her throat. It wasn't an unfamiliar sentiment, but the fact that she was suddenly handed it as such a young age sucked her breath in.
It scared her. The thought of dying. A shudder ran through her small body. Here she was, a League cat afraid of death and horror. Truly, a disappointment. She could walk away, it'd be easy. She could go back to the nursery, go back to playing ball with the wall, and wait for her promotion. She'd go to Senescence, get a mentor. She'd become a hunter. It'd be easy, so easy. To live a normal life, to be content, to go with the crowd. But that wasn't the kind of cat Brilliance-chan was. This was her chance to make her dream a reality. To take that step forward. Hone her skills and become the best in the League. If she passed this up, she could never forgive herself.
"Fine, I accept. I'm going to be the best. I will fight tooth and claw, take every challenge on, cry and bleed and scream for that dream." Mother E'tani would probably be disappointed in her eventually, Brilliance-chan couldn't help that, couldn't control her emotions. But damn, the day that happened and claws met her throat, Brilliance-chan was gonna fight.
