Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Solaris found his feet wandering the dirt that he had come to memorize by touch, making his way to the Pathologist's den. He hoped Sable-kun was there- he wasn't in any position to track her down. The blind ginger tom was not surprised by his position change- he had existed in a state of limbo since the accident, unable to be either Nemesis or Hunter. But less than three days after, the whispers had come to him, and he had gone to Marchosias with the news. And here he had been named the new Pathologist, chosen over the existing Resident for a position he knew little about.
But then again, it was better than being a useless cripple, or starving to death. So here he was, stopping just inside the den, where the cool air mingled with the warmer air outside. "Sable-kun?" He called softly. She had undoubtedly heard the news- it was all over camp.
As a kit her mom had told her stories of glory and power, promising her a bloodline of infinite respect and royalty. Now life had gone on and almost a year passed since her mom left the league to return back home. Not much of her bloodline remained in power and since her mom had left she had learned some hard lessons in humility from Solaris. There was nothing to be held against him, but she was worried that he was hard on her because he didn't like her. Hearing him call her name sent a prickle of anxiety down her spine as she ventured to the front of the den. Maybe he thought she hadn't learned her lesson fully in respect, she had been playfully messing with a few cats, but she didn't think it was anything severe.
"Hey Great Elder Solaris," Sable-kun teased, "Uh. What's up?"
She had grown a lot since she last saw him. Her ashen was now a cloud of wild shadowy curls and her leg fur had thinned out revealing piercing shades of white like lightning shocking nights into day in a bengal pattern like her siblings had. This detail had worried her as Marchosais seemed to have a special disliking for her family lineage. Which was precisely why she kept her mouth shut and didn't correct him when he felt all of Vera's bloodline was gone from the high ranks. She figured by now Marchosais could probably guess what family she belonged to, but also guessed he kept her around because she was half Eerie.
Solaris's brow drew together, confused by her greeting. Maybe she really didn't know. Solaris knew she sounded older, but he couldn't see the physical changes happening all around him. New territory, new leader, new roots growing for the League, and he felt out of the loop.
"It seems I'm the new Pathologist of the League." He decided to be as forthright as he could, sinking into a seated position as his sightless eyes roamed the space he couldn't perceive. "I told Marchosais that I've begun to hear voices, and he thinks I have the sight. So I was assigned here, to... train you."
Her voice shifted into a mischievous tone, linger on the vowels as though she knew something Solaris didn't.
Sable-kun walked behind him and nosed the ivy off the ledge so they would curtain the entrance. Solaris could hear the sound of a stone rolling towards him before abruptly stopping as Sable-kun sat herself down on top of it, "Soooo excited! So when did you create your first nightmare potion? Oh and do you know how to turn everything into a poison yet? How far can the feline body take pain? Who was the first person you hypnotized? Oh and when did you teach the spirits to obey your every command?"
Solaris fought back the urge to roll his clouded eyes, settling for a simple twitch of his whiskers instead. "Sable-kun, we both know that you are far more suited for this position than I am. I did not ask for this, nor do I particularly want it. But you were deemed too young to take over the position, and I was placed here simply to hold down the fort until you're ready to take over." He rolled back his shoulders, letting out a faint sigh. "It seems you have more to teach me than I have to teach you. But it was this or be a useless cripple for the rest of my pathetic life. So here I am."
(I'm gonna jump ahead in time where Sable-kun's leaving to go to Absum Lux to be with her big brother Thane and Solaris is the one person she confides in to say good-bye)
Sable-kun tapped Solaris awake, "Hey, Great Elder Solaris," She whispered before backing up a foot to not be right in front of him, "I need to talk to you about a few things and this can't wait."
