( Internal Affairs - The Burning Tower )
There was a new cat in the Internal Affairs District. As such, Senescence had called them up to her den, which most cats now called The Burning Tower, thanks to the fire she kept going constantly in the hearth, the light able to be seen from just about anywhere on the territory. It was a treacherous journey up the half broken and rotting steps, but if Lilith was worth anything, she should be able to make it up alive.
She'd only seen the feline in passing, but it was easy to see who she was related to. If by some stroke of chance she wasn't Roxanne's blood, the Proxy would actually be surprised. Of course she'd kept this little idea of hers a secret. Either cats would take notice themselves, or they weren't worth telling anyway. More so, she could be entirely wrong, though that was doubtful. But she supposed she'd find out soon enough. The huntress should be led up soon enough by Alexandria, and then the scarred feline could lay out the rules and they could have their little chat.

Lilith wasn't surprised when Alexandria approached the huntress and informed her that Senescence wanted to meet with her. She had heard from most the cats within the Internal Affairs District that the proxy met with all of her subordinates to make sure they knew who the boss was. She followed the other huntress up the broken stairs, her slender body and tall frame gracefully stepping on the parts of the stairs that were somehow unharmed. Her heart beating slightly faster then usual when they creaked under paw. It felt like moons had passed by the time they carefully picked their way to the top of the tower and the huntress found herself staring down one of the proxies her mom had mentioned. Apparently, Senescence was one of the few who had protected her mother from the many assassination attempts, although she could only assume it was because it was the she-cat's job at the time as Roxanne's proxy to keep her safe. The two were becoming closer before her mother was finally forced to leave.
After a nod from the Proxy, Alexandria disappeared in an instant down the steps, Severine's grandchild fading away into nothingness, leaving the Proxy alone with the newcomer once more. The feline had been born during Vera's reign, long after Roxanne, and though her bloodline was one in which Lilith would despise once the relations were realized, for now, both were blissfully unaware of such a fact.
For a moment, the heavily scarred feline said nothing, half-blind gaze drifting away from the crackling flames to rove over Lilith's frame without hesitation. Senescence's expression hardly shifted a fraction, cool disinterest and a vague look of boredom written across her features, as though she could hardly care less about the one standing before her now. Crossing one paw over the other, the pair just slightly over the edge of the old servant's bed, Senescence laid her head down on top of her forelegs and remained quiet a moment longer. The necklace she'd given to her niece Kat once upon a time rested at her chest, the rusted chain staining the parts of her white chest it touched, the slate gray stone pendant stained with blood and just barely visible as it slid to the side of her paws. "What brings you to the League, Lilith? Not many cats choose to withstand initiation simply for the sake of calling such a place as this their home." In all the time she spoke, her eyes never once left the yellow ones before her, steady as always and utterly devoid of any sort of emotion or sympathy for the things the huntress may have faced in her quest to join Primal Instinct.

She was right. Not many cats chose to join Primal Instinct, and if they did there was an alternative reason for doing so besides actually wanting to be there. She chewed the inside of cheek as her heart beat even faster then when she was coming up the stairs. Senescence was intimidating, her mother hadn't lied about that, but she pumped out her chest and wrapped her tail around her paws in an effort to appear less intimidated then she was actually was.
"I heard Primal Instinct was one of the most feared groups in the land and have unimaginable power over the other groups. I won't lie. I'm guaranteeing my loyalty to the League simply for a warm place to stay, protection from other predators, and food in my stomach." She tasted a hint of blood in her mouth after saying this. Her back teeth slightly breaking open the inside of her cheek. Senescence wouldn't by the story probably. She was observant of others and thus it wasn't easy to hide the truth from her, or at least that's the way Roxanne had described her, but Lilith needed to stay more then anything. On top of that, the story was fitting considering how scrawny and beat up she was when she had first arrived in the League.
"Oh, I doubt that." Senescence commented absently. "There are far better groups if that's what you're looking for. Take DayClan, for example, lead by Green. If there's any place to stay that can both hold it's own, and would welcome you, it's them." They were allied with NightClan and SunClan, after all, and few could boast such a closeness between those three clan's leaders. But that wasn't really the point. The Proxy intentionally used her mother's League name, rather than Glowstar, though most now knew her by the latter name. Supposing she was right, Lilith would know the name. Unless she was unaware of a relation with Roxanne at all, in which this line of questioning wouldn't matter whether she was actually related to the Nemesis or not.
"It's usually the killers who come here, not those hoping for refuge."

That was true. If she truly sought a safe place to live, she would have lived in the clans where things like murder were illegal, but Lilith wasn't about to give up now. Not by a long shot. "Well... I went with the group who sounded the most terrifying." Lilith admitted. Maybe if she made Senescence think she was idiot she'd stop heavily questioning her. Then she mentioned Green's name. She felt her heartbeat stop as anger bubbled under her fur. Her teeth grind against each other.
I would never join that traitor.
It took every ounce of strength not to scream the words out. her body stiffening ever so slightly. "I heard Dayclan is filled with weaklings. It's why they need Nightclan and Sunclan to keep them safe." Her voice was monotone and dead. The look in her eyes flickering to anger as she said the words.

"You would be dead wrong about that. DayClan has former League cats in its ranks, and my mother doesn't lack physical strength. Though she does have a far too easy to abuse soft spot for her children. But we're not here to discuss Glowstar or praise those who would rally around her." Senescence rolled lazily onto her back, neck bending to let her head tip off the edge and look at Lilith upside down. Her legs twirled almost childishly in the air for a few moments.
So, she was close enough to Roxanne to have heard of the DayClan leader. Probably her daughter, given the appearance and strong reaction to the former Deacon's name. Granddaughter would have put a layer of separation that might make this less personal than it obviously appeared. "I do wonder what sort of stories Roxanne told you of this place and its misfit occupants." Was her name mere coincidence? Even if it was, the feline before her would certainly not appreciate being told who she shared a name with. Maybe she'd save that one for a later date.

She had been caught, and now her heart was beating fast again. Could she ever catch a break? Her stomach filled with butterflies as she considered her next words carefully. She might as well come clean. It wasn't like Senescence was going to believe her if she tried to weasel her way out by lying. "Not very many. She wasn't really sane enough to go into too much details. We didn't really stay around each other for long either." That had been partially true. Her mother wasn't sane her entire childhood and living with her was almost like living with a stranger. She acted nothing like her stories depicted her as. The only time the insanity had flickered out of her gaze was when she was dying, and that last interaction with her mother made her feel like she hadn't truly known Roxanne at all.
"Why is it you've really joined the League, Lilith?" Senescence questioned bluntly, "And don't give me some spiel about it being for your own safety this time. Few would really dare to return to a place that has apparently driven one of it's own leaders to insanity. Not without a reason, at least." She couldn't really claim to know that it was the League that had driven Roxanne over the edge, but it was as good a guess as any. Not that it would surprise her if she was right.

She had said too much, and this had become obvious. Senescence was more observant then she appeared and that had become obvious over the course of their conversation. She should have just lied about being related to Roxanne. She probably could have gotten away with it too since her mother was originally supposed to be sterile. She tore her gaze away from Senescence's to stare down at her paws. Her ears burned with a mixture of shame and embarrassment. Was she already going to fail her mother. "I wanted to be closer to her." She finally mumbled up. She wasn't lying, or at least in her heart she wasn't. She went on this journey for revenge, but in her heart there was something more that she wanted out of this. Something that was hard to pinpoint through the cluster of emotions whirling inside of her. "I thought if I joined.... I could find out the truth of who she really was by joining the league..." There was a sadness in her voice. For once, there was no half-truth. She wanted desperately to know her mother. The one who had fought Renegade Regime and taken one of Commander Largo's lives. The one who had protected Swift E'tan while a huntress after one of the proxy's almost killed him while possessed by a demon. The one who was born a taboo, the daughter of a kittypet and a hunter, forced to slaughter her own parents to prove her loyalty.

For a cat who had wanted to be part of the league, Lilith was a rather naive cat still, that much was obvious. Especially to one such as Senescence, who had barely survived through her own innocence and ignorance, once upon a time. Emotions flickered across the newcomer's face, this time far more real, and raw, a dangerous display of vulnerability to a cat that could twist such things if she desired to. It was equally as perilous to display such emotions simply because it revealed things you never intended. The Proxy could see the pain in her face, the anger and worry lingering behind the unrestrained grief. There was more to this story, but the scarred feline rather doubted she'd get a full on explanation of anything. After all, it was the most broken who guarded their secrets the closest; she should know.
"Call me insensitive, but your mother is dead. In many ways, that means the truth died with her. You will get versions of each cat's truth, mixed in with the lies and the snippets of Roxanne's own version of events, what she could recall in an apparently altered state of mind, which may or may not be accurate, I wouldn't know. You will get the legends and the stories from those who might still have a bone to pick, but ultimately, it will be up to you to decide what you feel the truth is. The League won't bring you closer to her. This is the place that poisons the mind of all who dwell within, where we sell our souls without really knowing what, if anything we might get in turn. Your mother is a product of that, I suppose. Whatever your reasons for coming here, this is not the same League Roxanne led. Few of the members who were then remain now, and most of those who are related to such cats are removed to the point of being separate entities entirely." Blunt? Probably, but Senescence also wasn't necessarily wrong. There were some remnants of the old League, and most certainly cats in and out Lilith could gain information from, but as a whole, they were the same in name and ranks more than persons within.
She felt anger bubble up in her chest at Senescence's words. No, this was still the same league. The same one who had ruined her mother to the point of no return. The same one that Roxanne had dedicated her entire being to only to be stabbed in the back by those she trusted most. She could tell based on the atmosphere. Sure, their faces were not the same, but they were still the same cats. The ones who were taking after their ancestors to continue their relentless traditions. They all deserved to burn. Her mother wouldn't be able to rest until she rid the world of every cat who had harmed them, including their bloodline. "I respectfully disagree. I think the league is the last thing I have left to grow close to my mom." Lilith said in response. Her face expressionless and voice cold for once. The anger had made her numb again. The anger towards everyone who had wronged her entire family including those who sat back and allowed it to happen. She couldn't help but second guess her mother's story of Senescence. The ones of the she-cat being loyal to her and being one of the only ones left that she could trust, despite how little she served Roxanne for. For someone who had been best friends with her mother, Senescence didn't seem to really care what had happened to her, and Lilith had already taken a mental note of this.
