Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
She had tried to remain strong, to keep her head held high... But the whispers and rumors were starting to get to her. Littlebird was doing all that she could to keep the clan togather and it just wasn't enough. Cats were talking about leaving, protesting her conservative stance, and the fact that they had no idea where Foxstar or the others were being kept didn't help matters. It seemed like no matter what decision she made, the clan was unhappy with her.
As much as she would have loved to have charged in and rescued Foxstar immediately, that was not possible. The regime had proved to be undefeatable in their tunnels. Foxstar had taken much of their fighting forces into those tunnels and they had been defeated. No if they wanted to win, the regime would have to be drawn out into the open. A difficult task to say the least....
Then there was a more recent development, but one that she had yet to share even with those closest to her. Before Foxstar's capture, she had found out that she was once more carrying kits. She was not yet far enough along for anyone but the most well trained eyes to pick up on it, but the familiar movement in her belly let her know that this was the case. It was the reason she had not been in the tunnels as Foxstar was captured, more than a strategic move. She had stayed behind, creating a safe point for SunClan to retreat to. It was also was why she hesitated now. Her last pregnancy had almost killed her, and she didn't want the clan knowing just yet. They would see it as an even bigger weakness, and without Foxstar there she was the only leader SunClan had. She needed to be strong for them, and didn't want others worrying about if she could handle leadership while being pregnant.
Jetclaw and Skipstep had noted the comments, the rumors, the whispers and both plainly rebuked mousebrains. Foxstar would want SunClan to carry on. They’d already lost once, they needed a well planned and executed strike, they could not rush it. But some of their clanmates didn’t see it that way.
Skipstep had managed to keep his sister from picking fights but he could see her seething whenever a comment was made.
Despite the frustration with his clanmates, Skipstep wanted to try to cheer up Littlebird. He and Jetclaw went hunting early in the morning and returned with a good haul. The two siblings took a large rabbit to the priestess’s den to share with Littlebird.
Upon reaching the mouth of the den, Skipstep passed the rabbit to Jetclaw to hold before poking his head in. “Littlebird? We brought you something to eat, may we come in?”
Littlebird's ear flickered towards the entrance of the den, where her mate and sister in law had made their apperance. With everything going on she was surprised to see them, but it was a welcome site "Of course, come in, come in" she purred placing the herbs she had been sorting back into place.
Between sending out patrols, securing the boarder, healing the wounded, holding meetings, and coming up with plans she hadn't had as much time to spend with her family as she would have liked.
The two siblings entered, Jetclaw moving around her brother to set the rabbit down in front of Littlebird, on her upper foreleg a healing scratch from the fight with the regime.
Skipstep sat down beside Littlebird. "How are you holding up?" He asked as he nuzzled against her.
It was only around the two siblings that Littlebird allowed her mask of courtesy and confidence fade away. She nuzzled against Skipstep's cheek and dipped her head in thanks to JetClaw "I could be better" she admitted.
She wasn't sure what to do next. Now that they had regrouped and made sure that their own territory was safe, they needed to act. Every moment that Foxstar remained in the regime's custody, the clan's name demanded less respect. Yet she hesitated, waited. Unsure of the right path.
Jetclaw narrowed her eyes, "We know you're doing your best." She said immediately straightening up looking like a soldier ready to receive orders and perform whatever task Littlebird needed of her. "WE have heard some mutterings, but I've reminded them that the loss of our leader does not rest on your shoulders. The SunClan warriors left Foxstar isolated, with her away it would be foolhardy for us to rush in. We must plot, and come up with a plan of attack to take back our leader and avenge this defeat." She said, her expression softened. "And such plans, require time."
Skipstep nuzzled Littlebird. "If anyone though starts giving you a hard time, we'll be ready to remind them that you are the Priestess Promised, you will get Foxstar back and avenge this loss. But right now, you need to take care of yourself. The clan as well needs time to recover. I caught Bruisedapple earlier stumbling around, clearly still struggling with a head injury. Our warriors seem to forget that there is a recovery period. So we must collect ourselves, do not let anyone guilt you for doing so."
A small sigh escaped her lips, they were right. She had jumped right into getting the clan recovered but had been hesitating on moving forward. She had been pushing it off, delaying when possible. Part of it was the face that many of the warriors had not yet recovered from the long list of wars and battles the clan had been involved in. They were tired, and leading them into battle in such a state would mean the death of those who were to stubborn to admit that they needed to rest.
"There is some truth in what they say though" she paused. Yes she heard all the things being said about her under hushed breathes "I should be doing more to bring Foxstar back, negotiating, sending spies, something... and yet I hesitate... It's not that I fear the regime as many believe, it's..."
It didn't seem right to tell them like this. Having kits was supposed to be a joyous time, and she had been hoping to lie low and wait until after the war was over before sharing the secret she had been holding on to. She had suspected that she might be carrying kits once more before the battle, but the days following had only served to confirm it. She and Foxstar had decided that she would stay behind and create a retreat point to keep her out of the main fighting without cluing anyone in. Now with Foxstar captured, this was the type of news that could shatter the clan. She had almost died while giving birth for the first time, and finding out that she was pregnant now would only further their doubt in her abilities. Not to mention that she wouldn't even be able to name a sucessor, so if they killed foxstar and something happened to her, the clan would fall into chaos.
"this isn't the way I wanted to you this, but Skipstep... your going to be a father"
