Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Honestly, it felt odd coming back here after all this time, especially after he decided that he would not return to DayClan. She did deserve an explanation though. He had promised that he would tell her of his decision once he had made it and that was what he was here to do. He hesitated at the border, his green eyes a bit uncertain as he peered over at the other side. Would he see the rest of his siblings that had stayed behind? It was possible, but he wasn't sure what he would say to them at this point. They lived in completely different worlds after all.
After a few moments more he drew in a deep breath and stepped across the border. Glowstar was his mother so there was no way he wouldn't be welcome here. He knew this sort of confidence would need to be kept in check though. He hadn't even told Superior Shule that he was coming here today. He had ditched training to come so he was sure some form of punishment would be waiting for him back home. Insubordination had never been tolerated in the Regime no matter who one's parents were. This was why he had left Pike behind honestly. He couldn't risk her getting in trouble as well. He would speak to his mother and then go back as quickly as possible, that was all there was to it.
"Hello Serenity," She said a heartbeat before Serenity could trip over Glowstar.
Glowstar was nestled in the golden wheat, the tips of the tendrils were so high they had completely devoured the leader from sight. She lied on her back cloud gazing up into the blue sky as the wind billowed fiercely above, but on the ground it was warmer, peaceful. Being away from her and coming back was almost odd. Serenity could see now all the ways she resembled Sean from her spiky chest fur to the accented confidence in her voice. Typically what contrasted her likeness from Sean was the joy that lit in her eyes while Sean's eyes gleamed with a false happiness, but today her and Sean seemed to share the same faux gaze. The happiness in her eyes towards him felt dishonest.
"Oh hey Serenepaw," Freckledorange said casually as he passed by, as if he totally didn't notice that Serenepaw wasn't made an apprentice there and didn't go by Serene anymore.
He almost jumped. He hadn't been expecting to run into his mother so quickly. He composed himself fairly quickly however and gave his mother a pleasant smile. The uncertainty that had been in his eyes the day he left DayClan was gone now. He actually looked happy, truly happy and certain of who he was and where he belonged. Even so, it was odd to see Glowstar again after all this time. She did look a lot like his father. It was easy to tell why it might not have been unbelievable that they were truly her kits.
For a moment, his attention was drawn away by Freckledorange. He frowned and debated correcting him on his name but eventually decided against it. That could come later. "I was hoping to see you actually. I know it's been a while and I haven't exactly visited like I promised I would, but a lot has happened." His expression had turned slightly apologetic as he said this. He had missed her. Even if Shule was his birth mother, Glowstar had raised him and in his mind, that made her his mother no matter who she was to him biologically.
Her feather light gaze turned to Serenity before slowly leaning up onto her paws smiling as he spoke. He was as chipper as ever, almost felt familiar. She gave a smile of infinite kindness and understanding, "Hey, it's okay," She said giving her son a friendly nudge across the shoulder, "I had the best time ever when I was a cadet at the Regime. But keep that between us, I don't need Sean using that as ammo against me," Glowstar smirked.
Her tail suddenly pointed up in realization, "Oh hey! I made you a gift actually, back at camp. I've had it for you for a while and it was actually inspired from Renegade Regime so I think you'd like it. I promise if you have somewhere to be I'll even go back to Commander Mars and ask him to excuse you. I'll hunt fifteen pieces of prey if it'll give you a break. I'm serious. Though that stubborn butt probably wouldn't go for it. He'd think it's charity or something cheap like that."
As she walked towards camp she suddenly turned back to Serenity with a startled expression, "Not that I think grimly of him or anything, I just think being stubborn is kind of a distinctive trait in the Regime. I find it annoying and endearing at the same time," Glowstar grinned wryly.
"Commander Mars really isn't all that bad. He seemed pretty scary art first, but he's actually really nice. He's much less scary than Diana at least. She's his sister and from what I can tell, even Commander Mars is a bit wary of her." He still remembered the last lecture he had gotten from the spy. She reminded him so much of Superior Shule that it really wasn't hard to see how they were related. "But I didn't exactly tell anyone I was coming here today so it might not be a good idea for you to go back with me..." Just thinking about trying to explain everything to Superior Shule and Commander Mars made him shudder. Mars wasn't nearly as strict as Shule, but he knew they had been cracking down on border security here lately due to all of the intrusions by clans and loners alike. After a moment he let out a little chuckle. "But honestly, your entire perception of the commander would change if you could see him when he visits Post Kilo. He has a soft spot for tykes and he doesn't even try to hide it."
He kept pace wit his mother after this, remaining silent for a little bit. He still hadn't told her what he wanted to tell her, but there was no need to rush things right?
Glowstar raised a brow as if to ask him if he remembered who she was. She went to WinterClan to be imprisoned for fun and loooved the idea of messing with Renegade Regime. Going back with him with certain promise of causing trouble was like an early Christmas gift to her. Her face smoothed over as a smile soft as flower petals crossed her lips, "Me too, kits are adooooorable! Perhaps Commander Mars and I should make a public appearance and play with some kits for a day," She purred and then ventured on, "I guess I'll come back with you after this. I've heard how strict Renegade Regime has been lately so I haven't visited myself, I was hoping Commander Mars would visit to strengthen our alliance, but since he hasn't I think it's important that we touch base with each other."
She decided to push away what her son had said about being afraid of Commander Mars from her mind. Mainly because she couldn't imagine much of anyone being afraid of him. Not in an insulting way, but he always came off as confident, level headed, strategical, and considerate. He was a leader, never had the dictator kind of aura. Then again Foxstar, Burningstar, and herself had always come off as so kind to her litter. Maybe Serenity seeing a leader that wasn't favoring him was a bit jarring.
As they reached camp Glowstar skipped ahead towards the tree off to the side to retrieve whatever it was she wanted to get for Serenity. While there Serenity could swear he was being watched and if he looked over he could see the emissary Soaringdawn watching him with a solemn expression.
"Well...From what I have heard, a lot of clans have began trespassing on our territory and our home has been attacked twice now since Commander Mars became Commander. Some of the soldiers are worried that the clans think we are weak." He probably shouldn't be telling this to the leader of DayClan, but at the same time he really didn't think that she meant them any harm, especially when he and Kaisra were staying with the Regime.
As they came to the camp, he sat down and watched Glowstar as she went to get whatever his present was. He still hadn't told her. He would have to tell her soon. Otherwise she was going to be upset. He supposed he would tell her when she came back.
"How tragic," Glowstar said with false enthusiasm as she returned back to Serenity, "You know DayClan has been attacked twice too, but unlike Mars, I've lost both and to be honest if I could go back in time I would never choose to win. First loss was when WinterClan and Primal Instinct attacked and rather than fight to prove some kind of honor and pride we fled. Two clans against one never has a good outcome. Second time SunClan wanted to enslave us so your father, or your foster father, Darkcomplex fought Whispyfeather. If Darkcomplex won then SunClan could take over DayClan, if Whispyfeather won SunClan had to give up. Whispyfeather won, but when your father and I looked to Foxstar she had her claws around your throat. So, that's how I gave up my entire clan for you and why I'll never ever say I regret losing that battle."
Her sarcastic tone broke the moment her emerald gaze stared lovingly into her sons eyes as she retold the story of SunClan. She gently licked the center of his forehead, her eyes shined confidently reflecting sunny glimmers of light that caught the sincerity of her gaze, "I'd lose a thousand times for every moment I can spend with you so-" Her paw gently moved a whispy feather into his paws, "Come visit more? That's all a mother can ask. This feather allows you to come and go as you please. You'll always have a second home while I'm here, Serenity," Her words warmer than a summer breeze.
"Thank you...This makes it a bit easier to tell you what I originally came here to tell you today." He fell silent for a few more moments as he examined the feather that he now held in his paws. How was the best way to say this. Telling her that he was going to stay in the Regime was somewhat easier now, but what about Pike? How would he explain that? Well...There was only one way to get through this. He was just going to have to tell her and wait to see how she reacted. "I've decided to stay in the Regime. I'm...happy there. I like the structure. It helps that I usually know what I am going to do every day and there's no conflict as to where I belong. And...." His voice trailed away for a moment. It was honestly a bit embarrassing to say. When he did speak, his voice was quieter, but there was an unmistakable look of pride in his eyes nevertheless. "And I've met someone there...Her name is Pike. She recently moved to Post Kilo when she found out she was going to have kits..." Now that was probably the hardest part to tell her. He had already received at least three lectures about this, but even if they were young, was it really a bad thing? He couldn't bring himself to be ashamed of his small family no matter what anyone else said on the matter.
Every word he said was an utter disappointment. She kept begging StarClan he was his own man and well, he made the decision to stay so hopefully that was true and if he was capable of standing his ground then she'd feel comfortable with him living far away. Still the fact that he needed order and to be told what to do was... Well to put it politely she didn't want anyone taking advantage of her kit because he was a sheep who followed the flock. However when he said he met someone her ears perked up, there was more. He wasn't doing this just because he needed order in his life like some imprisoned rat that couldn't function in sunlight anymore. Thank the heavens, "That's great!" Glowstar exclaimed right away, she could already feel herself relaxing. What was Post Kilo again? It was the place for raisers, he was dating a raiser, okay, cute.
"Eh. Oh wait. So are they your kits?" Glowstar asked with a wry smile.
She was joking of course, because Serenity was... Her mind paused, she wanted to say the most responsible, the one that followed the rules, but could she really say that was true? He impulsively left DayClan with little evidence at first that Shule was his mom. So if anything he was the most rebellious son of the litter?
And then it clicked, her smile erupting into an uncontrollable wildfire of a grin, "OH SNAP! NO. WAY. NO!" Glowstar tipped her head back as a wave of manic laughter pushed past her lips and into the wind. She tried to look at him as she paused in her laughter, but her eyes only grew watery before bursting out into another wave of laughter, "No this is not happening right now," Glowstar said as she shook her head walking away from him. She rubbed the side of her head a little, "Dammit. No. No WAY."
The entire DayClan camp was looking at her.
"GUYS SERENITY HAS BEEN GETTING BUSY WITH A CHICK! That's MY BOI!"
Glowstar walked back over to Serenity wiping the tears from her eyes, "Y'know what, people always said, he's Shule's son. Mr. Perfect. Mr. Can-Do-No-Wrong. But I always said, he's my son too. So here you are, fearlessly leaving the clan you were raised in to live in a group where you just knocked up some cadet and you don't even look ashamed. Holy stars," She giggled like an apprentice, "This couldn't be a prouder moment in my life as your mother. Listen listen though, I'm here for you, seriously, I'm just SO happy and I'm sorry I was ever worried about you, you have my absolute respect."
Honestly, this was not the lecture he had been expecting, but he supposed he should have. Even so, he was watching his mother with a flat look as she spoke. How could she be so excited about this? Sure he wasn't exactly unhappy with the news, but still. Most cats who were told by their son that they were leaving the clan to join a group of tunnel dwellers because he had started a family there wouldn't be so upbeat. "Mom please..." He glanced around, hoping that no one was really paying attention to their conversation.
Glowstar raised his chin up, "You might not get it because the kits aren't born, but when they are you and your mate will never regret anything that happened before it. So shame on anyone who tells you to regret your future kits, they're yours. The best days of your life are ahead of you Serenity."
She pushed forward the whispy feather again, "Should you feel in times of war or stress that your kits or mate are unsafe you can always send them to DayClan until things settle down. Your family has a second home, should blind protector forbid there ever be a time of great horror. Now unless you wanted to stay a bit longer I'll walk you back to the Regime, I don't want any protest on that, I'm walking you back, you can't out race me."
While Serenity doubted that he would ever abandon the Regime no matter what troubles they went through, he would take this as a gift. The fact that he could come back to DayClan should that need ever arise meant a lot to him. "Thank you but I should probably be heading back now...I didn't exactly tell Superior Shule that I was leaving today so I'm probably going to be punished when I go back..." Of course this was because he had known there was a chance he wouldn't be allowed to go or it might have been insisted that he take someone else with him and he had honestly wanted to come alone. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt if you walked me back though.." He offered her a smile. He would enjoy the company at least.
"Yeah what are punishments in the Regime now? Actually, I don't even know if mine were normal, Commander Largo was my mentor so I bet there was a greater expectation there and then my mom was always looking to stick her claws in me any slip up I made like yawning or not standing up straight cause I slouched a lot, or getting too fat, or talking," Glowstar explained, "But I don't think Sean ever got punished, actually that's so stupid, why didn't he ever get punished, he literally dated a proxy from the league? Anyways, I guess they were a bit flimsy in the past, what are your punishments like?"
