Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Squirrelleap let out a noise of triumph as he dropped down from the tree with the large crow he'd caught in his mouth. He dropped it to the ground and let out a chuckle looking down at his catch with a pleased look. It had been a difficult catch, and it had gotten a bit dicey up in the tree, but he'd managed to just catch it before he'd lost his balance.
The young cats he took in would be pretty impressed. He knew some of them were wandering off more and more, while others clung close to camp. Some hadn't even yet decided to advance to apprentices which had him a little concerned. But he was hopeful that his catch could inspire them to see becoming better and stronger warriors as an achievable goal for them. And ripe with enough excitement that they didn't need to do crazy mousebrained things.
Moosepaw had tagged along with Squirrelleap like he usually did. The young tom was growing pretty fast but he still wasn’t as big as Squirrelleap yet. An amuse smirk took over his expression as he watched his guardian take down the crow with relative ease. “That was a great catch!” He said, with just a hint of awe in his voice, his eyes full of admiration. “I want to try.” He insisted making his way over to the tree Squirrelleap had just jumped down from, and began to ascend up the tree trunk.
A twig snapped from a nearby bush, followed by an exasperated sigh as a now scrawny Siamese tom pushed his way out of the bushes. His blue eyes, were dull and exhausted. He staggered forward a bit before correcting himself and regaining his balance. Around his neck was a black collar with a thick black cube in the center of it. How Cass had hated this infernal thing. It got caught on everything and through off his balance constantly.
Cass glanced around the area, his eyes seemed to recognize nothing until they eventually landed on Squirrelleap. For the first time in moons the light had returned to them. “Squirrelleap?” He asked aloud, his tone brimming with disbelief. There was no doubt that it was him but, his mind was still reeling in disbelief. It couldn’t be that easy? Could it?
Squirrelleap lifted his head about to call to Moosepaw that he should focus on his climbing first before he tried catching birds from branches when his ears twitched at the sound of his name, coming from a very familiar voice. Startled he turned and his eyes widened. "Cass?!" He meowed, staring in shock at the tom. For a moment anger and joy clashed. Anger at the tom for disappearing for so long, and joy at seeing the cat again. "Where've you been?!" He meowed going up to him and then stopping eyeing the black collar. "What's with the collar?" He asked, expression and posture turning more guarded. Cass had said when he'd left he had to ensure no trouble would be coming NightClan's way from his 'friends', what was the former rogue doing with a collar from twolegplace? And one that looked especially wonky.
Cass had spent a lot of time around Squirrelleap before he left, enough to recognize the fire in the tom's green eyes. He couldn't blame him, he had been the one to leave. Doing all he could to stop his 'friends' from invading Nightclan. Would Squirrelleap understand? He hadn't meant to leave for as long as he did but, fate seemed to have other plans for him.
"Its a long story" he sighed. "After I stopped the invasion on your clan I was kicked out of my group, on my way back I was taken by two legs and they kept me locked inside one of their dens for moons. They let me go but, not before putting this thing on me. I'm not sure why."
Squirrelleap nodded slowly, some of the fire dying but still there. Wary, unsure if he was ready to give his heart to Cass again. He'd said he'd be back, but it had been so long, and Squirrelleap had been left wondering if he'd given his heart away only to lose it once more.
"Well, I'm glad you're back. Do you want some help getting that thing off you? I might be able to chew through it." He said. It would certainly be a struggle, but he could get it off. Plus if Cass was willing to get it off it meant he intended to stay. Not leave all over again.
"Yes please." Cass meowed without hesitation. He had been trying to get this retched thing off for awhile now but, he was afraid he'd strangle himself trying to get it off on his own. He stepped forward, visibly relaxing, and almost weakened by relief when he saw the anger die down in the other tom's eyes. "Thank you" he said softly.
There was a loud, startled yelp somewhere overhead as Moosepaw lost his footing trying to chase a blackbird overhead. Now the apprentice was dangling from the branch and struggling to try and pull himself back up on the branch. "Squirrelleap!" he called out to the warrior for help. Thankful that his mentor and partner wasn't around to see this.
Squirrelleap had begun to reach forward with his head ready to bite down on the collar and see if he could worry at the material holding it in place when his ears shot up at Moosepaw's shout.
immediately releasing the collar he looked up, eyes widening when he spotted Moosepaw danging from a branch. "Hang on!" He shouted immediately jumping and tearing up the tree getting onto a branch just below Moosepaw's hurrying out into it. Once he was within reach of Moosepaw, he stretched his head out and grabbed Moosepaw by the scruff, claws digging into the branch under him for balance straining to get a good grip on the apprentice.
When he felt he had a good one on him he grunted. "Got you, let go, I'll set you down."
