Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The battle between Renegade Regime and Sunclan had felt like moons ago, but the slight stinging of the healing wounds on her pelt reminded her otherwise. Windpipe always knew that her mother's shenanigans would one day get her into some serious trouble, but she never imagined Foxstar to get into this much trouble. Foxstar had always been a valiant spirit, one that refused to back down from a challenge, and despite her mother's shameless tendencies she always somehow came out on top. She chewed the inside of her cheeks as her claws flexed into the dirt under paw. The she-cat couldn't help but be anxious over her mother's capture. She could only imagine what Mars was doing to the proud leader, especially since she had tried to steal away the pregnant mercenary superior for her own personal gain. At this point, her ear was twitching with frustration at the situation. Windpipe and Foxstar hadn't always been close. In fact, she downright hated her mother at one point. She had found the leader overbearing and the code of the Sun God nothing more then an excuse for her mother to have more authority over Sunclan. This had all changed when Windpipe had received her first sign from the Sun God and had become closer to her mother as result.
Her paws were itching to leave now. To wander into unknown lands or recklessly travel through other clan territory like she usually did when anxiety consumed her, but she feared if she left now then she would return to the news of the rest of Foxstar's lives being ripped from her soul and a subsequently missed rescue attempt. "What is Littlebird even doing?" She mumbled angrily under her breathe. She knew the question was ignorant. Sunclan had lost several in the fight against the Regime and many more were injured. It was a death sentence to attempt a rescue in the current state they were in, but that didn't make the warrior any less annoyed.
Unlike most cats, Lionpaw had been rather unaffected by the battle for the most part. He had been promoted right before the battle and had not been allowed to participate since he had no training. The biggest impact that he had been spending most of his 'training time' doing things around camp and trying to hunt because his mentor and many of the warriors were to busy worrying about the regime to do the basic tasks needed to run the clan.
He sighed, sitting down his bundle of soiled moss at his paws, already bored of the task that his mentor had given him. He had already cleaned and replaced the moss in all the nursery nests. This was his last trip having to carry the soiled material out of camp, and he was struggling to find the energy to keep going. That is when he spotted one of Foxstar's kids sitting off by themselves looking upset and angry. He hadn't spoken much to Windpipe, but he couldn't stand the thought of anyone being upset. He slowly made his way over "I'm sorry about your mom... I don't know what I would do if something happened to my mom"
The sudden approach of Lionpaw quickly drug her from her thoughts and brought her back to reality. Her gaze snapping towards his form as she blinked as if she couldn't see the tom clearly. "Thank you for your kind words." She said politely with a dip of her head towards the newly made apprentice. She quickly noticed the soiled moss at his paws and the tired expression on his face. She felt a pang of guilt for the hard work the young tom was being forced to do, especially since he was considered only a kit a few days ago. "Do you need some help with that?" She offered as she angled towards her ear towards the moss.
The last thing he had been expecting was for the warrior to offer to help him with his task. Most warriors saw cleaning out moss beneth them, and why wouldn't they? After all they had better things to be doing. He shook his head, even though his weariness was obvious in his eyes "I got it, and this task was assigned to me" he replied. He always tried to do his best, wanting to live up to his mother's expectations."But if you wanted to walk with me, I wouldn't mind. Mom doesn't like for use to get rid of the moss near camp, so it's a bit of a trek"
Windpipe couldn't help but allow a gentle smile to appear on her face from the tom's effort. Lionpaw was working hard, all of the apprentices were working hard, and she couldn't help but feel a bit of pride well up inside her for her clan's efforts. Even if they weren't working as fast as she would have liked to save her mother, at least everyone was working together to help those injured and recovering from the war. She sat up straight, wincing slightly as her wounds stung slightly at the sudden shift in weight. "Alright, let's go. Lead the way."
He dipped his head and picked up the dirty moss underneathe his chin to keep from putting it in his mouth as they walked out of camp. He couldn't help but notice her wince as she rose, and he felt a pang of sympathy. A lot of cats in the clan were hurt now, nd it seemed a little senseless to him. Why would anyone want to hurt another? He just didn't understand it. "Did the regime do that to you?" he asked, with a pained tone.
"What do yo-" She paused as her eyes grew wide and she pointed with her tail at the wounds down her flank that was tenderly covered with cobweb and smeared with the poultice of a dried oak leaf. "You mean this?" She asked with a slight chuckle escaping her muzzle. "Well, when a battle between two groups happen usually it results in injuries from the opposite group." she explained to the young apprentice.
He knew that... but knowing and seeing for your self were two different things entirely. He lowered his gaze, unable to keep looking without feeling woozy himself. Instead he looked forward as he scuffled his tired paws along the grass as they walked. He didn't even like hunting, but did so knowing that they needed food to survive. He had made it mission to make anything that he caught suffer as little as possible, and to respect each life that he had to take. But that? Hurting another cat over something so petty... It was just almost unimaginable to him.
"It just doesn't seem right ya know... All the bloodshed, and for what?"
Windpipe wanted to argue, but part of her understood exactly what the tom meant. When she traveled, she traveled far and wide. The places she had seen and the communities she had come across were not always like theirs. No, some of them avoided fighting at all costs, and others had developed a mutual understanding for those living nearby. She never truly understood why the clans couldn't be like this. Weren't they all simply trying to survive? What was the point in lowering those chances of survival by constantly fighting one another? But she also knew the other side of the coin. The side that ensured their lands would not be walked on or their young stolen as long as they were willing to fight to keep them. "You're right... it doesn't seem right." She agreed softly. Her eyes not turning to look at the tired apprentice as she spoke. "But this is how it's been for generations. Fighting is essentially in our blood now."
"That doesn't mean it can't be changed" sure it might be difficult, but wouldn't it be worth it in the end? To not have to worry about your family as much, to be able to go where you wanted without fear of being attack by other clans... It all just seemed silly to him. I
Windpipe released a chuckle at the apprentice's words. She could recall when she had been young and had thought such foolish things, but her mother and Sunclan as a whole had been quick to squash those dreams. "If you can change it one day I'd be shocked. Unfortunately, I believe we're too deep into our ways to change." Windpipe said simply.
He shook his head "perhaps, but change has to start somewhere" the young tom was naieve, but his heart was pure. He only wanted his family to be safe, to find love, and to bring peace to all that he met. "Who is to say that I won't be the one to start it?" he smiled a little and nudged her shoulder
"mom always says that an idea is just an idea until you put it into practice. So I try to always be what I think a true warrior should be. Maybe it won't make a difference, but then I won't have anything to weigh on my concious"
