Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It had been weeks since Riverstar had found her in the wild, right after tormenting a rogue tom, and in a odd twist of events had asked her to join the clan and took her on as his pupil. It was something she never could of imagined would happen to her, especially since the reputation of the nearby clans were that they were strictly against any type of murder because of their atrocious code. She stretched out her body and extended her claws into the soft dirt under paw. It was summer now which meant the prey was abundant, and the good thing about being Riverstar's apprentice was that she had the pleasure of hunting and eating as she pleased. None of that "you must feed the elderly and young before yourself" b.s that other clans indulged in. The only downside was her.... hobbies. No longer could she take pleasure in mutilating and then subsequently murdering cats, at least not within the territory, or without Riverstar's approval first. After all, those that vouched for him to become leader were already becoming weary after the changes the leader had implemented, making murdering them or their imprisoned loved ones off limits. The rogues and loners within the territory were off limits as well. They were necessary pawns to keep the strict order of new Waterclan. They protected Riverstar and carried out his orders in exchange for free rein of the territory, which apparently was an amazing deal, although Frozenpaw didn't understand why. After all, she traveled most of the surrounding territories without being caught, creating the impression that most clan cats were as dumb as foxdung and thus the hunting within clan borders was a relatively easy task. None of these downsides were particularly terrible though. She still had small animals to fill her pleasures and if she really couldn't control herself, she could always go outside the territory and relieve the itch. In exchange for being a supportive ally of Riverstar and listening to his demands, she received prey, shelter, and guaranteed protection. She also received training from the leader himself which made learning the dangers and pros of clan life easy. On top of all this, she had been able to keep her hidden personality under wraps. To most, she was nothing more then a sweet little apprentice who had been conned into favoring Riverstar and who had joined the clan at the wrong time. In other words, if Riverstar happens to sink at least she wouldn't be drowning with him. At the very least, she'd be able to feign ignorance until she came up with a new plan.
Meanwhile, life was grand, and she planned to enjoy it while she could. "What a beautiful day!" She purred excitedly as she finished up her early morning stretch.
"It does look nice out, doesn't it?" Drippaw looked over at her with a warm smile from where he was finishing scraping together a bundle of old moss to take out. His eyes were heavy and shadowed by exhaustion and he struggled to stay on his paws. He couldn't remember the last time he slept, it must have been a day or two now. Drippaw had struggled to hunt ever since he joined the clan and Riverstar had been sending him on more and more patrols to hunt and at first they had helped but now he was so tired he wasn't sure how much good the extra patrols did. Still, he had to keep going, had to find something.
He rolled out the last of the moss, grateful he'd gotten a break from hunting to clear out the elder's den, then returned to the other apprentice. He hadn't met Frozenpaw yet but he'd heard from his friend s she was sweet and kind. "You on patrol today?"
There was a moment of judgment that flickered in her golden gaze as she stared the young tom up and down. The exhaustion painted on his face spoke volumes as to how strong he was. He wouldn't have lasted a single day under the type of training she had endured. She was certain of it.
How pathetic.
The thought crossed her mind as she flashed the tom a big toothy grin. "Yep! It's beautiful out! I bet it'd be a good day to go swimming." She said excitedly as she bounced on her toes with pure enthusiasm at the idea. "No patrol for me today! Riverstar gave me the day off! He's such an amazing mentor!" She purred.
"Ah, lucky. I'm probably going out with every patrol they can fit me on." He stifled a yawn and fought to keep his eyes from closing. Drippaw started to pace a few steps to keep himself sharp and awake. "I've caught a lot of prey now, though, so that must be good." Not as much as the leader desired, it never was enough, but at least he had improved. Riverstar was rather unimpressed with his hunting after just one patrol and he couldn't imagine how tough he must be on Frozenpaw.
Patrols are child's play. Just sniff a few borders and catch a few pieces of prey.
The thought was hidden behind an enthusiastic smile. "Yeah! He's terrific!" She said a bit too loudly, as if she couldn't control her excitement. Can't make him look too nice.
The smile then slowly faded off her muzzle and she glanced down at her paws in embarrassment at her own eagerness. "W-Well... he can be a bit tough. He scolds me a lot." She admitted softly. Her gaze then snapped back toward's Drippaw's as zeal crept back into her voice. "But most mentors are tough! It's a part of training!"
Drippaw nodded, understanding. “A little harshness is okay as long as he isn’t cruel,” he suggested. “Having the leader as a mentor much be difficult sometimes, that’s a lot of pressure.” He couldn’t say he liked Riverstar much but he wasn’t against him, either: this was his leader, and he wouldn’t speak ill of him. He deserved a fair chance instead of all these arguing cats.
She tried to hide the annoyance from her eyes as she "Oh, it's definitely not easy! I mean he can be rougher then other mentors, but he is the leader. He has to be rough in order to get people to listen to him." Frozenpaw explained. "I think practicing my moves is my favorite!" She swung her tail towards a scar on her hind leg. "This one was from the last training session." she stated proudly.
Of course, this probably wasn't true. She had many of scars from the moons of harsh training she endured from her father. Her and Riverstar hardly inflicted wounds on each other. They were both rather skilled after all, but she couldn't help but wanting to scare Drippaw a bit.
The ginger tom's eyes widened. "Oh! That looks painful," he murmured. He hadn't been hurt training before; he didn't realize his mentor was unordinary, but he was grateful for it. He didn't want to get hurt like that. "I'm not a very good fighter yet. I bet I'd have a lot of wounds from training if Eclipseknight wasn't gentle with me." His ears pinned back.
"You like it the most, though? Even though you get hurt? That... doesn't make much sense," he ventured.
Getting hurt is a way of life. Might as well learn to deal with it now.
She thought this to herself as she kept the smile planted on her muzzle. "I learn a lot of cool moves, so I don't mind getting hurt much if it means I become stronger!" Frozenpaw explained as she twirled around to show off her other scars. "Why don't I show you a few moves?" She asked bouncing excitedly on her toes. Lets see what this tiny tom can do.
"Well, alright!" Drippaw smiled, feeling a thrill of excitement. "That would be great! I bet you're way better than I am, so you'll have to take it easy," he added with a little wink. "We're going to be a bit more ah, gentle than you are with Riverstar, right?" He didn't fancy getting any scars so young.
"Sure! I'll try!" Frozenpaw assured with an enthusiastic nod. She swished her tail and turned her back as she strolled into the forest with a little pep in her step. Her eyes sparkling as she hummed to herself. "Where should we train? Riverstar takes me to a bunch of different places to train so I can learn the territory!"
Drippaw was thinking they should train somewhere nice and flat and safe where there were no distractions, but she was already willing to go easy on him, and he didn't want her to think he was a total mouseheart. Besides, he wouldn't always fight somewhere safe, so he should practice in hard places, right? "What if we go on the rocks by the bottom of the waterfall?" he suggested. "It'll be tricky but then we can use the river too."
"That's a great idea! I don't think I've trained by the waterfall yet!" Frozenpaw said excitedly as she veered off the path they started and headed towards the river. "I bet we'll be able to teach each other a lot! We'll have to be careful on the rocks though. Wouldn't want either of us to accidentally drown!" She said jokingly with a small chuckle escaping her muzzle.
Relieved she liked his idea, Drippaw broke into a wide grin. "Great! If you fall in I'll fish you out," he promised. "You're bigger than a fish, so you're probably easier to catch." He flicked his tail and bounded after her.
