Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Where the hell could she be?" she muttered to herself, the right side of her maw twitching in annoyance, almost into a growl. She had been searching for two afternoons now, and she was slowly growing impatient. Perhaps this impatience was something else, though, something different. Maybe it was fear. After all, she was following all of her leads to Octavia, and none of them were going anywhere. Did that mean...? Shae felt a shudder run down her spine. Octavia wasn't dead. Octavia couldn't be dead. Even after all of this time, Octavia couldn't be dead. So, where was she?
The Heda narrowed her eyes as she made the final leap to the roof of the old rubble building. She had been avoiding this place in her searches because this place was where everything was started. This was where it all started all those moons ago. This was the place where Shae and Octavia had met. Octavia had met Shae as she looked at the building across the monster path caught on fire. It had been enchanting to watch another building go up in flames. She had been trying to avoid this place, because there was a part of Shae that felt pain every time she remembered the meeting between the two. Octavia had been the first cat to care about her, after all. But, here she was, almost willing Octavia into existence....
Green eyes glazed forward. They had watched carefully, and her paws had been silent in her followings. Octavia had been told a cat was looking for her, and by the descriptions she was sure she knew who it was. Before her stood the very cat she had once brought to the Absum Lux. It had been seasons ago, so many countless seasons ago.
Octavia slowly padded from the shadows, her tail still and low. “Shae, it has been some time, dear.”
So many things had changed since the night Octavia found her. Even the roles were reversed now. Shae would be the one to bring Octavia, the lost lamb, back to Absum Lux- at least, if the former Heda would accept her offer of luminary. Shae was unsure if her former mentor and friend would accept the invite. Octavia was a proud cat, but would the fact Shae had finally taken her rightful place as the Heda - she still strongly believed she should have been Absum Lux's second not fifth - ? She was unsure.
"It has," the she-cat meowed as she turned her head towards the voice. It was one of the voices that haunted her nightmares. When she was younger, she had dreamed about the fire and about death. Now, she dreamed about Genesis and Octavia any time it was time for a nightmare. The two had been her little slice of the world back then when she was dumb and naive and still had it in her to love other cats. She still loved Octavia, but it was different now. Everything was so different.
"You're a pain in the ass to find, you know that?"
“I like it that way.” She responded, those pine hued eyes glistening as she gazed at the cat before her. Octavia had not expected for any cat to ever go about asking for her or searching. She’d been almost long forgotten, and she doubted that any cared for her at this point.
Her tail twitched. "Well, you know, whatever you're doing, it's working," she meowed, her voice half amused and half irritated. She then let her gaze rest squarely on the pelt of the first feline who had really showed her what a mentor could look like. They were both much older now, but she still saw Octavia of Octavia.
"I wanted to see if you wanted to come back to the Coalition. There's a new sherriff in town, and I hear she misses you." Did Shae know how to miss another cat? She wasn't entirely sure. She just was sure that her chest ached every time she thought of the older cat.
The tabby gazed at the feline with curious eyes. Octavia hadn’t seen Shae in many many moons. To know she’d came back now, after all this time, searching her out. It was... odd. “You want me to return to Absum Lux with you?” It was a thought that she hadn’t considered in seasons. “Why?”
She misses me? Her skin felt like it had maggots crawling in it. Octavia wasn’t sure, she didn’t know how to act if she were not in charge... The feline narrowed her eyes, silence pulling between them.
Shae shrugged. "Things have gotten too soft back in the good old Coalition. There's been a string of, well, absolute incompetents leading. Genesis sure knew how to pick them." She spoke this part bitterly; the wounds left by Genesis were of the rawest that Shae had ever felt. "I figured that bringing back their first master could help with that."
She shrugged again. "But, hey, if you're content with this living like a bump on a log in the middle of no man's land, probably doing nothing of importance, that's fine, too," she then meowed with a wink.
Part of Shae wondered if she would regret this. After all, their interaction was different this time. No longer did Octavia seem like a cat who cared about her; did she need to surround herself with ghosts of the past if things had changed so much? Her ear twitched. "I'd like to invite you back as a luminary, if you'd like."
Octavia nodded slowly. Having been on her own now, for years, it was odd to have another cat invite her to what was once hers. The feline looked away, silence forming between the pair for only a few seconds. “I’m sorry.” She began,”It’s been some time since I’ve been around another. I have isolated myself for a long time.” No cat ever knew why she had up and disappeared, and it was likely that one should never know.
Shae nodded. Had she been so obvious with her disappointment? That was unlike her; seldom did she make it apparent that she was unhappy unless she was flat out mad. "If it's too weird for you, you don't have to come," she meowed, her tone a little bit unsure. Maybe Octavia was better off alone?
