Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Appleshine bounced up to her brother, Shadedsun. He may be the Clan's deputy but to the ginger and white she-cat he was still first and foremost her brother and she loved to pester him any chance she got. "Go hunting with me!" She pleaded. "As a matter of fact we should maybe do a hunting patrol?" She suggested.
Shadedsun turned his head toward his sister as she bounced near, a smile crawling across his face. "Yeah, I'll go." He stretched from where he had been grooming himself and slowly padded past her. "Okay Ms. Bossy, whatever you say." He teased lightly. The large tom scanned the camp, looking for somebody to join them. Just a small hunting patrol would do. "Since it was your idea, why don't you ask someone?"
Appleshine scanned the camp quickly. Everyone already seemed to have a job already or they were enjoying a meal. Personally she hated it when her meal was interrupted. "Eh, everyone already looks busy. If anyone wants to join they can catch up later." She decided. "And I'm not bossy!" she exclaimed teasingly, giving Shadedsun a playful nudge.
Shadedsun chuckled before padding out of camp, his whiskers twitching in amusement. "Alright, alright." He looked around for a moment. "I'll race you to the cherry blossoms." He challenged, feeling a buzz of energy in his paws. "Three. Two. One." He paused for a second, "Go!" The large tom took off without so much as a glance at his sister. He wasn't the fasted, not really, and had no doubt she'd easily catch up.
Appleshine stared after Shadedsun for a few seconds before darting off. Like her brother, speed also wasn't her strongest area. She was built stocky and muscular, so she excellent in battle and strength, nevertheless, Appleshine did get catch up to Shadedsun and flanked him on the way to the cherry blossoms.
Out of breath, Shadedsun slowed to a slow trot once they neared the cherry blossoms. It wasn't so hot today, there was actually a soft breeze that carried a touch of rain. There might be a slight drizzle tonight, The large tom guessed, his tail twitching. He hated the rain.
The warm scent of prey hovered in the air, surrounded with the smell of newly blossomed flowers and fresh grass. He stepped as lightly as he could, searching the area for prey. A rustling caught his ears, then a small shape caught his eyes. A mouse. The rodent was nibbling on the a stalk of grass. I wonder how they like it. He got low, slowly creeping up on the small creature. It hesitated, and once he got close enough he leaped, bringing a paw down on its little body and catching it with a swift bite.
"Nice catch!" Appleshine said, watching Shadedsun out of the corner of her eye. She was mainly focused on a bird mindlessly picking at the ground. She ever so slowly moved her paws forward one at a time, making sure she didn't make any noise. The bird paused when she was within a few feet and Appleshine took the opportunity to leap. Her muscular build and impressive strength allowed her to easily clear the distance between the bird and herself, she quickly grabbed the bird and killed it with a swift bite.
He watched her for a second, his tail twitching happily. “Yours is much better than mine.” He commented. Shadedsun caught sight of another bird, a small little thing, pecking the ground a little bit away. He crouched, waited for a moment, and crept forwards. The bird started to take flight, and on impulse Shadedsun leaped after it, his claws just missing. He fell to the ground with a thud, getting a mouthful of dirt and grass. The large tom sat up and spat dirt out of his mouth, laughing at himself.
"Are you okay?" Appleshine asked worriedly, trotting up to her brother, attempting not to giggle at the sight of him missing the bird and crashing to the ground. It had been a funny sight to see. "And if you're opinion is that birds are better than I'm not sure we're related because I hate having to pluck feathers off my food before I eat it!"
Shadedsun shook the dirt from his pelt, laughing at himself. He cuffed his sister over the ears playfully. "Then I guess not, not-sister Appleshine, because picking the feathers off is the best part!" He scoffed, feigned hurt, and turned away. "And birds just taste superior." He huffed, his whiskers twitching with amusement. "Common, I'm hot! Let's go to the river or something, where it's cool." He turned around and lay on the ground in front of Appleshine. "Will you be my sister again? We can agree to disagree?"
"We're going to have to agree to disagree because I'm pretty sure mouse tastes superior to birds." Appleshine countered, darting past Shadedsun and giving him a playful swat over the ears as she darted by. "I'll beat you to the river!" She called, racing in the direction of the river that ran through the forest. She figured the river in the valley wouldn't be much cooler since it was out in the open.
“Pfft!” He shook his head and ran after his sister. “I’d like to see you try!” He challenged, knowing full well she beat him last time and would most definitely beat him again. Shadedsun’s paws pounded the earth as he darted after Appleshine, close to catching up but not quite.
Appleshine slowed as they neared the river that cut through the forest. As nice as it was to have two rivers within the territory one had to be extra careful near the forest river, as the ground grew slippery quite quickly and the rocks were the worst of it. Appleshine carefully picked her way over them, hoping she wouldn't end up slipping. "Be careful!" She called out an unnecessary warning to Shadedsun. "I remember slipping off these rocks as an apprentice!" Appleshine commented, reminiscing on her days of training and playing mouse brained games around the rocks and falling into the water below.
Shadedsun placed his paws cautiously once they neared the slippery rocks. His pelt twinged with a slight anxiety. He had always hated the water, hated it's depths, hated how it looked so innocent yet could kill you in an instant. He remembered, as a young apprentice, seeing the forest river for the first time. It had seemed so big then, seemed to stretch across the world, but even then he kept his distance. He always hated the water. Nowadays, he didn't want him or his siblings to end up like their parents.
"Careful." He warned. "Everyone knows your big clunky paws would slip on just about anything, especially these rocks." He added his usual playful undertone and swished his tail happily, enjoying the time he spent with Appleshine.
"Ha ha." Appleshine shot back. "I've fallen in before as an apprentice, I very quickly learned how to swim just enough to get myself out of the water." She added. "It's you who'll need the rescuing if you fall in!" She added playfully, stopping on a rock that reached just above the water's surface. The rock was slippery from being wet but no moss grew on this rock, which helped only a little. Appleshine stared down at the water below watching it move swiftly yet calmly by them.
He sent her a playful, dirty look. "I will no--I mean, you're probably right. I hate the stuff, why would I even go near it unless necessary? You probably couldn't even lift me out, I'm so heavy." He chuckled. He gazed at her with hidden anxiety. He kept his distance from the water, a few tail-lengths back, in fact. "I should lay off the birds. The best prey." He added.
Appleshine rolled her eyes and glanced back at her brother in mock exasperation. "You're just fluffy!" she retorted with another eye roll. "Also we'll all be appreciating all that extra prey we had over the course of the warmer moons when leaf bare arrives again." she added. She wasn't a fan of the cold weather, simply because it brought with it scarce prey, she didn't mind the cold as much as she did an empty stomach.
Shadedsun purred, his whiskers twitching. "Yeah, I guess you could say that." He lay down, resting his head on his front paws as his eyes closed rather blissfully. He had appreciated everything that had happened in the past little bit, every single second of rebuilding their lives, every second of newfound hope and joy. SpringClan was finally, almost, back to normal.
"So," He started, "find anyone . . . interesting?" He asked jokingly. For a while he had wanted to have a mate, kits even, have his own little family. He was family-orientated, it was in his nature. But, he hadn't found anyone who clicked yet. Nobody who fit in with his own little puzzle piece. Shadedsun hadn't seen Appleshine closer with anyone else yet, and he wondered. He wondered. He had been wondering a lot these past few moons.
(So sorry! I've been very busy lately, but now that it's summer break I'll be more active again.)
Appleshine snorted in amusement and rolled her eyes. "No and I haven't been looking either." She answered with a shrug. It wasn't that she didn't want a family but right now she was content with being a warrior, plus there hadn't been anyone who had gained her interest. "Right now I enjoy just being a warrior, maybe eventually I'll find someone but I don't want to actively search them out, I feel like if it's right it will happen, you know?"
