Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Beetleflight's ear twitched, the black tom not thrilled with the idea of splitting up... But he could see the wisdom of it so he reluctantly nodded. "All right I'll go look around for whatever I can find." Trying to keep the list of everything Turbulentpaw had said together.
"Just call me if you find anything that might be useful" he nodded, as he began to enter into the hills. It didn't take long for him to find his target, the bright golden and red flowers sticking out against the lush green hillside. He lowered his head, and began snipping the stems and carefully placing them into a large leaf to help hold them togather as he hummed. Knowing that the others were close by helped him feel safe, unknowingly wandering farther and farther from the rest of the group as he continued collecting on the side of the hill.
The sound of rustling in the long grass made him raise his head, assuming that it was a member of the patrol coming to check in on him. "Find anything?" he called out, but what emerged wasn't a member of his patrol... A long snout poked through the grass, the sides of black nose rising and falling taking in his scent.
Turbulentpaw froze, hoping against all odds that the creature hadn't noticed him. He stood there staring at the nose until it lifted and a horrifying sound emerged, echoing through the air. It left no doubt in his mind, it knew he was here and it was out to get him.
Turbulentpaw took off, he could feel the hot breathe on his thin tail as it's jaws snapped just behind his heels. He didn't even have time to think about what it was that was chasing him, just that he needed to get away. Each time the jaws got closer and closer, eliciting squeaks of panic from his own jaws. Just as he thought he had been caught, the ground under his feet gave way.
He soon found himself falling through the air, unable to see anything but sky above. He flailed trying to find some sort of foot hold, something to grab onto but there was nothing. It was just like his nightmare, the sense of helplessness and fear. He heard a loud yelp, a split moment before he hit the water below.
Echopaw was racing toward the sound of the creature. She had heard it make the awful noise and had a feeling that her beloved friend was in danger. Never had she ran so fast. The forest blurred on each side of her but her vision was focused on ahead of her. She easily cleared a log in front of her, practically flying. She landed on her paws with a thump and continued to run. Before long, she neared the hills where Turbulentpaw was suppose to be. She halted, scenting the air when she suddenly saw the black and white tom racing over the crest of the hill, a blurred shape hard on his heels. She bolted forward, climbing the hill easily until she hit the peak. She had lost sight of both the creature and Turbulentpaw. Where did he go? She sniffed the air until she caught his scent again then followed it at a steady padding pace.
She followed the scent until she noticed a massive hole in the ground the last second before she went off of it. She skidded to a halt, watching as pebbles tumbled down into the darkness. Turbulentpaw's scent ended here and her heart sank. Did he fall in? She scanned the hole until she saw a path leading down it. She followed the narrow path, clinging to the wall as close as she could and watching where she set her paws. "Turbulentpaw?" She called out, her voice echoing as she continued to follow the path and praying she would hear an answer.
The cold water lapping at his belly awoke him, his yellow eyes snapping open in the darkness looking for the creature that had been chasing him. At first he could barely see, his eyes not adjusted to the darkness the only light coming from high above. That when he saw it, a dog that now lied motionless not far behind him. Blood spilling out into the water around it.
He tried to stand, only to collapse back into the water with a groan as pain shot up his front leg. He couldn't put any weight on it. He stopped taking a moment to look at his leg, as the voice of a clan-mate could be heard from up above. It sounded a little like Echopaw, but it was hard to be sure with the way the sound was bouncing around. "Be careful" he alled out to her. He still wasn't sure if the creature was really dead or not "it's down here and not moving, but it might still be alive"
He forced himself to move out of the water, dragging his injured leg. He was already starting to shiver, his thin coat doing little to protect him from the cool water that he had fell into. Even though it was very painful, he had to get onto land quickly. He could tell his leg was probably broken, but the risk of hypothermia was more of an immediate threat
She breathed a sigh of relief as she heard her clanmate answer back. She quickened her pace, still carefully placing her paws. Turbulentpaw said it was down here. What was down there? The creature? She prayed that it would stay unconscious until she at least got Turbulentpaw out of there. She finally reached the bottom, her eyes adjusting to the dim light. The cavern was beautiful, breath taking. However, she quickly pushed the thought away. Her friend needed her, he was probably injured. She scanned the clearing until her eyes landed on a black and white shape. There he is! As she neared him, she noticed the creature not too far off. It was a dog! Turbulentpaw was lucky that he managed to escape it. Not an ideal escape, but at least he was alive. She rushed to his side. "Where does it hurt?" She asked before touching him. She didn't want to help him move without knowing where he was hurting.
"I will be ok" he tried reassuring her, though tremors had already begun to wrack his body from both pain and cold. "I believe my leg is broken, and I have a few scrapes. Nothing life threatening. Mostly I just need to get out of here so that I can get my fur dried off" he glanced nervously over at the dog that had chased him. Truly he felt more lucky than anything. The injuries were really nothing compared to what could of happened had the dog managed to catch one of them. He still wasn't sure how he had ended up down here, but something seemed familiar.
He gazed into the water and then looked up towards the clear blue sky above "I feel like I have been here before in a dream, well a nightmare really..." he paused not really sure how much more he could say. He had told Burningstar about his dreams, but not the rest of the clan. He hadn't wanted to frighten them after the earthquake.
"We can worry about that later. Lets get you out of here, first." She helped him get to his paws. "Lean on me on the side your leg is broken. I can act as a crutch" she insisted, leaning into him and helping him up the path. They reached the top and she laid him down. "We can take a break here until your ready to move on. Is there anything I can get for you?"
Turbulentpaw laid down, out of breathe and in a lot of pain after the climb. It was hard for him to think clearly, but he didn't want anyone else falling in "A firm stick and some cobwebs will at least let me stabalize it..." he tapered off. "But you need to find the rest of the patrol, we don't need anyone else falling in there" he stared down into the water below. It was almost mesmerizing.
"What happened! I heard the-whoa!" Beetleflight came to a halt near the edge where Turbulentpaw had fallen. "That wasn't there before..." he muttered looking up and spotting Echopaw and Turbulentpaw and he went over. "Are you okay?" He asked them.
His eyes snapped upwards at the sound of Beetleflight's voice "Could be better" he admitted with a wince. "but we are ok for the most part. I was getting chased, and before I really knew what was happening I was falling and ended up down there. My leg is broken, but I could have ended up like the dog"
The thin tom tried to push himself into a sitting position, but gave up when pain shot through him "Echopaw helped me back up"
She looked over at Beetleflight, "be careful, Beetleflight! We need to put up a barrier around this so that no one else falls into it." Then her beautiful green eyes landed on Turbulentpaw, "dont you want me to retrieve that stick you asked for?"
"Yes please" he nodded to Echopa, trying to stay still. "We need to end someone to fetch Burningstar. If we just leave, then someone else could fall in"
Beetleflight nodded in understanding. "I can do that." He said immediately getting to his paws and peering down at the hole and the pool of water at the bottom of it. It looked interesting he was curious about it, but he was better suited to fetching Burningstar. "I'll be right back!" He said before turning and hurrying back in the direction of the temporary camp by the Waterfall.
Echopaw nodded to Turbulentpaw before watching Beetleflight disappear within the shadows to fetch Burningstar. In the mean time, Echopaw padded around in search for a good stick that would fit comfortably on Turbulentpaw's leg. After a few moments of searching, she finally found one that she thought would work well. She padded back over to Turbulentpaw with the stick clamped in her jaws. She set it down beside the medicine cat. She then padded away in search of vines that he could tie it to his leg with. She eventually found bendy, yet sturdy, vines that would work wonders for securing the stick to Turbulentpaw's leg. She set those down as well. "Do you need some help with that or can you do it yourself?"
