Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
She couldn't do it anymore. She couldn't even manage to rise to her paws, she had given everything that she had to these kits, and it still wasn't enough. The once beautiful she-cat's fur was coming off in tufts, it brillent silver sheen replaced by dull muted greys. Her ribs showed clearly through her sides, her face sunken in. She had tried to provide for them, but the difficult kitting had taken a lot out of her, making it very difficult to hunt effectively. She had slowly been starving, and it had started to effect her kits as well. They still looked ok, just thin for her body wasn't able to produce enough milk for all of them.
She laid her paws lightly on her paws, closing her eyes as the little ones tried to suckle and get the last remaining nutrients her body was able to provide for them. Was this it? Was this how her story was going to end? No it couldn't be. She tried to force herself to stand, only to collapse back into her nest. "One step" she whispered... "at least one more step" Katiana
Timberfrost had gone out once more into the forest, as he had every couple of days, looking for Cloud, hoping to find the she-cat again after she had disappeared without explanation suddenly one day. He'd taken to wandering the borders near to where they had met up before in the hopes that he'd catch her scent nearby and finally had the luck of catching a familiar scent not far over the border. Without taking a second to think it through he quickly followed it and his ears pricked at the sound of pitiful mewling coming from the same direction that the scent trail was leading him to.
He came upon a small den that smelled of both Cloud and the milky scent of kits. Peering into the den he found a very skinny and sickly looking cloud curled around a pile of six squirming, skinny kits that were not happy with the fact that they couldn't find milk.
He stepped in carefully and brushed his nose along the side a silver tabby she-cat that looked much like he did. Looking up he met the eyes of Cloud, "Are they mine?" he asked softly, though he was sure he knew the answer.
(I think I want their relationship to last. I like the idea of the start of it and them working through all the problems and still ending up together at the end of everything. Maybe having more kits later on as well)
Cloud's eyes fluttered open, almost believing that the tom before her was just a dream at first. She meekly nodded in response, the simple action taking a lot of her remaining energy as she allowed her head to rest upon her paws. How had he found them? Would he try to take them from her? She couldn't fight him, not in her current state. She gazed up at him with green eyes, waiting to see how he would react.
She would have to put her trust in him, what other choice did she have? Her eyes began to slowly close, although she fought to keep them open.
Seeing as she wasn't doing well and there was no way he could get all six kits and Cloud to MoonClan's camp by himself, Timberfrost debated for a moment. "I'll be back in just a few minutes. I've got to get some help." he said quickly before turning around and making a beeline for the camp, hoping that there would still be a few warriors around that could help him.
After finding a few other to help him, Timberfrost quickly lead the way to where Cloud was camped with the kits and started trying to get Cloud to stand up and follow them. "Come on, we'll get you somewhere warm and with plenty of food for you and the kits."
Just as suddenly as he had appeared he was gone, leaving her alone with the cries of the hungry kits. "Don't go" she whispered, a paw reaching out after him as he disappered, darkness that was on the edge of her vision overcoming her.
Then a cold nose on her flank awoke her, as several cats that she didn't know came into sight "No. don't" she pleaded in her confusion. "Don't take them" she began to struggle trying to get to her feet to fight off the intruders until Timberfrost's voice reached her ears. She collapsed against him, unable to hold up her own megar weight any longer
When Cloud collapsed against him, Timberfrost staggered dangerously, though he managed to maintain his balance and didn't fall over himself. Even though the she-cat was dangerously underweight, she was still bigger than the rather tiny tom and he'd never been very steady on his own paws, no matter what he did to try and not be a klutz anymore.
Foxrun, a tom that had accompanied Timberfrost to help retrieve the kits, and who also happened to be the younger tom's uncle, had scooped up one of the kits to carry but when he saw Cloud collapse again Timberfrost and nearly topple the young tom, he quickly moved to support the she-cat.
The she-cat leaned onto the other cats struggling to support herself, but managed to stay on her feet with Foxrun's help. The world seemed to be spinning around her and she would need his guidance to be able to make it back to MoonClan's camp. "Take them first" she managed to stutter out. At least then they could start trying to take care of the kits
"I'm not leaving you behind when you can't even stand on your own." Timberfrost insisted. He quickly picked up the nearest kit who squealed loudly at the sudden movement, at least proving that they were aware enough to be vocal about displeasure. The others had already been gathered up by other warriors but they had stuck around so that Cloud didn't freak out about the kits being taken and Timberfrost and Foxrun lead the way back to camp slowly.
When they finally made it back to camp Timberfrost carefully lead Cloud into the nursery and to a nest tucked into the back corner where everyone carefully set the six kits down next to Cloud. Foxrun slipped out to return with a large plump squirrel and set it in front of Cloud where she could reach it easily. "Here. Eat up. You won't have to worry about you or your kits starving here." Foxrun said.
The small she-cat lowered herself painfully into the nest after the long walk, but relief washed over her as the kits were placed once again at her side. She had thought that they would have been taken away. Everything seemed so busy as cats went flying around them, she glanced around nervously as the food was placed before her. She was used to fending for herself, and no one shared food with anyone but family. Still the scent made her mouth water, as she looked over to Timberfrost to make sure it was ok to actually take the squirrel
"Queens, kits and elders are always fed first in the clan before anyone else. You're always welcome to eat whenever you are hungry. There's a pile of fresh-kill out in camp that you are welcome to chose from or you can wait until apprentices bring something in as well." Timberfrost explained to her.
"Queen, Elders?" she questioned before taking a small bite, she was slow at first, but her hunger quickly took over as she began to eat faster and faster. It had been so long since she had a decent meal that it was hard to hold back once she had started eating She wasn't sure what all the words he was saying meant, and even if she had her mind was foggy and unfocused.
“Ah, sorry. I forgot those are terms only clans use.” Timberfrost said. “Queens are she-cats who are expecting or taking care of kits. You would be considered a queen. Kits are members of the clan under six moons. Apprentices are cats older than six moons but usually less than twelve who are training to become warriors, they’re usually in charge of caring for the elders and queens by bringing them food and changing out bedding. Warriors are cats who have finished training and hunt for and protect the clan, while also training up the next generation. Elders are those who have retired from warrior duties either due to age, injury, or sickness. Because of their often long service to the clan and their experience they’re well cared for and highly regarded.” Timberfrost explained.
Cloud nodded trying to take in all of the information being presented to her, before laying her head on her paws as she fnished the last of the squirrel, to tired to make much sense of all of this. It was all so strange of foreign, but with Timberfrost here at least she knew that one cat was on her side. "I'm sorry... I should have told you what was going" tears filled her eyes.
"It is fine. I can understand being worried about how someone might react. I'm just glad I found you before you and the kits starved." Timberfrost said warmly.
"You are free to leave the clan at any time if you don't wish to stay, and of course take the kits with you. But you are welcome here and you and the young ones will be well looked after." a small dark dappled she-cat said as she stepped into the nursery. Her unusual turquoise eyes matched Timberfrost's which probably indicated that they were related in some way.
She had always heard that once you came to a clan, there was no leaving. The other loners talked of the clans stealing kits to raise into soldiers, a life that she had never wanted for her little ones. She just wanted them to be able to live peacefully, to make their own way in life. The fact that she wasn't stuck her was comforting, but she still doubted the he would allow her to take the kits that easily. He was their father after all...
Before she could respond, her eyes floated over to the source of the voice. The she-cat standing over them. She flinched away, leaning up against Timberfrost, unsure of what to make of her "Thank you..."
"I am Phoenixstar, the leader of MoonClan. Timberfrost is also a cousin of mine. If you chose to stay in MoonClan, your kits will have a large family to look after them and grow up with." the she-cat said with a warm smile.
"That include me." a high pitched voice piped up as a dark ginger she-kit scrambled over to stand next to Timberfrost. She looked similar to a miniature Phoenixstar though she was a solid dark ginger without the older she-cat's lighter swirls, and her eyes were dark green. "I'm Lightningkit!" she said cheerfully. "Timberfrost is my big brother. Which I guess means I'm their aunt?" she said, oblivious to the fact that she was probably overwhelming the poor she-cat.
"I suppose that it does" she murmered, amused at the young kit who boldly declared herself to be her litters aunt. Everyone had only been nice thus far, but she was growing more tierd by the moment.
The next morning, she flinched awake as the soft morning light reached her eyes. She eyes scanned over the kits curled up against her side all sleeping peacefully. Relief washed over her, they were all still there. Even with all the reassurances she couldn't help but fill uneasy. She lowered her head and nuzzled each of them, noting that Timberfrost was no longer in her nest. They all looked so small and scrawny, and one of them still had a wound that was healing over her eyes. Perhaps this was their best chance to survive, and even if she didn't trust the others she trusted Timberfrost to do what was best for them.
Early the next morning, shortly after Cloud awoke, Timberfrost entered the nursery carrying large, plump vole. He set it down near Cloud, "I brought you something to eat. How are you and the kits?" he asked.
