Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Cardinalstar took one last sweeping look over his Clanmates before turning and leading them out of the camp. SpringClan was not normally nocturnal but tonight was the one night a moon where all of SpringClan gathered at the Japanese Garden to meet with StarClan. Their bond with StarClan was what set them apart from other Clan's. In most other Clan's StarClan only communicated with the medicine cats and sometimes the leader, but SpringClan were so deeply connected to their ancestors that even their warriors spoke to them. He set his paws on the path towards the Garden, enjoying the peace and cool breeze the night offered the forest.
Shadedsun, a large, well-muscled tom, usually wouldn't stay up this late. The moon shone overhead, giving his thick pelt a soft silver glow and his eyes, which usually shone like fire, a moon-like appearance. He fell in beside Cardinalstar, his tail held cheerfully above his back as he broke into step with his leader. SpringClan had faced many, many hardships in the past few moons, but now they were getting back on their feet.
"You could say this marks our new beginning." Shadedsun spoke quietly, his murmur a soft song along the gentle wind. Though his paws were large, he placed them lightly, making no sound as they hit the earth. Usually he didn't mind how heavy his paws were, but tonight was a sacred night, a night that deserved the quietness.
"Indeed. Restoring our faith in StarClan will help us restore our faith within ourselves and within SpringClan. For the first time in quite awhile, I'm looking forward to the moons ahead." He responded. "I've also learned that our territory is very peaceful at night. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the sunlight and the warmth as much as any SpringClan cat, but you have to admit, the night is kind of peaceful, don't you think?"
Tundrapaw didn't normally make an effort to eavesdrop on others - or perhaps he did, but he'd never admit it - but Cardinalstar and Shadedsun's words had just happened to catch his attention. "Peaceful, sure," the apprentice said rather mournfully, "but dangerous. I almost just tripped over a tree root, or something..."
"You're a blind idiot in the daytime, too," Mangopaw snorted, cuffing him gently across the ears with a paw and clearing her throat. "Sorry Cardinalstar, Shadedsun. I agree, our territory is beautiful in the moonlight." She wasn't really that enthused by it herself, but hey - things were finally looking up for SpringClan again, and with the new leadership in charge, there was no better time to start networking again but now.
"One day, Tundrapaw, you will be able to walk straight through SpringClan's territory with your eyes closed and not trip over anything. Or at least it will feel that way." Cardinalstar replied, glancing back at the apprentices with an amused expression. But he had a point, at this point he probably could walk straight through SpringClan's territory, maybe not with his eyes closed, but on a very, very dark night at least.
_____
"Ain't that the truth!" Wolfspider chimed in, snorting with amusement.
Shadedsun cast the apprentices a smile. "I feel like I could walk around SpringClan in my sleep!" He couldn't count the amount of times he'd been around SpringClan this week alone, as he liked to be out and about. The feeling of being trapped someplace for so long made his pelt crawl.
"The unfortunate thing is, I feel like most of the seasoned warriors could absolutely sleep walk around the territory and possibly come back with prey!" Wolfspider responded jokingly.
Finchwatcher was padding alongside her former mentor, Wolfspider. She let out an amused laugh at Wolfspider's joke. "I hope I become one of those!" She purred, her light green eyes twinkling in the starlight.
Smokecloud walked beside Cardinalstar his head held high and his ears perked. He didn't seem like himself. He was almost a better version of himself since he got his clan back. He still had his grumpy moments but the adult cat had more of a spring in his step now. He visited Starclan all the time so this was nothing new to him, though it was nice having his whole clan with him.
"You say that until you become that way." Wolfspider responded with a glance at Finchwatcher. "Once you know the territory that well it gets boring sometimes. I'm not above a quick hunting trip into the rogue lands." he stated, adding the last part quietly. Although, recently he'd been so happy to be home that he hadn't even thought of venturing out into the rogue lands, he'd spent enough time there for a while.
______
"I'm looking forward to this new tradition." Cardinalstar said, glancing at Smokecloud. "Restoring SpringClan's faith in StarClan is more important now than ever and I look forward to being able to communicate with them more often." he said, leading the Clan into the Garden. It looked absolutely beautiful in the moonlight.
"That's true. I do enjoy having our territory back. I didn't really like living in unfamiliar territory" she admitted with a frown. However, she was glad to still be alive, to have her clan back and her territory.
Smokecloud nodded, "So am I, Cardinalstar. I think this will be good for us." He halted beside his leader when they arrived at the garden. His eyes scanned it, secretly admiring it's beauty.
Shadedsun fell into step beside Wolfspider. “I could never get bored of this, after being away especially. Though, I guess I don’t really like change much is all.” His words were silent but his gaze said all the words he didn’t say. All the thoughts he didn’t think. Every time he stepped out into SpringClan, it was like being welcomed home after years away. It felt like the warmest day. And he always seemed to be the lightest bird, flying through the territory on open wings. Of course, these feelings might very well go away after time, but Shadedsun was going to make the best of them. He smiled up at the moon. “I never come out at night, really. By the time the moon is halfway up I’m already dreamin.” Crickets sounded in the distance, a small chirping just tickling his ear fur. “Though, maybe I should.”
"You and me both. I've definitely had enough adventure. At least for the next few moons!" Wolfspider responded jokingly. He fell quiet as he took in the Garden in the moonlight. It was beautiful even during the daylight hours. He'd never felt truly at home here and never deeply connected to StarClan. He was hoping that would change soon though.

Cardinalstar nodded in agreement, he stared at the pond for the next several moments before taking a deep breath and walking to the edge of the pond. He ever so gently touched the surface of the water with a paw, barely causing it to stir. But the water rippled as if he had splashed it, he watched in awe as the stars rippled and danced in the water's reflection, waiting for StarClan to make their appearance.
“You can say that again,” He lowered his voice into a whisper as they entered the Garden. A calm energy washed over him, a gentle tide that lapped at his emotions. Not sure where he should sit, he took his place a few paces behind Cardinalstar. Shadedsun could see the stars that filled the pond, and subsequently his eyes as well. StarClan was touching the earth, their pawsteps a whispered tread upon SpringClan land.
Before the eyes of the gathering cats came a tall tom with stars on his paws and entwined in his bengaled fur. Most cats recongnized him, Leopardspot. New to the ranks of Starclan, he was visible as if he were just another clanmate amongst his former clan. He had been trapped and killed by the rogues that took over his beloved clan and he looked at them with a mixture of grief and joy.
"Welcome, Springclan." He mewed, scanning his clan with star filled eyes until they landed upon Cardinalstar. He hadnt been present for the leader's lives ceremony so it was relieving to see him once more. "I am glad to see you as leader, Cardinalstar. I know you will lead Springclan well."
Another tom entered beside Leopardspot, one that many may not recognize. He wasnt quite as vivid as Leopardspot, being among the ranks of Starclan for a few seasons. He had long majestic golden fur that seemed to dance in a nonexisting breeze. He was much larger standing beside the bengaled tom and a mane wreathed around his neck. His voice rolled like thunder when he spoke, "many of you may not know me. I was a Dayclan warrior, though once in Starclan, we are all one clan."
-----------
Finchwatcher stared in awe with her jaws parted in disbelief at what she was looking at. She blinked her eyes a couple times to make sure she wasn't just seeing things.
Smokecloud, on the other paw, seemed less impressed. Mostly because he saw Starclan ever half moon, though he didn't seem like he was bored. Instead, he seemed like he was glad to see them, just not as shocked.
Another tom appeared beside Leopardspot, his pale grey fur mixed with stars. He'd gone to StarClan several moons before Leopardspot but was still relatively new. Wolffang glanced around his former Clanmates, happy to see them back together and getting back on their feet. Behind him another grey tom appeared, this one had distinctive white paws and he was an ancient StarClan cat and it showed.
____
Cardinalstar stared at their ancestors in awe, unable to find words for several seconds. It pained him to stare at Leopardspot, who'd been a loyal warrior. His death shouldn't have happened. But he seemed to harbor no ill will towards Cardinalstar now. "Thank you, Leopardspot. I just wish you were still among your Clanmates. I hope you're happy in StarClan?"
___
Wolfspider glanced from Cardinalstar to Shadedsun and then to Smokecloud, completely unsure of what to do. A very small part of him feared that he would see the one cat that he despised most of all but now that seemed silly. StarClan was for good and loyal cats. He had no idea where his father's spirit had gone but he was sure it wasn't with StarClan.
Shadedsun stared at the StarClan cats for a long time, his mouth slightly agape and his eyes wide. He said nothing, as there was nothing to say, really. Calm. He was calm. Looking at these cats—cats who have passed on—made him think. The calmness lasted only a moment before he started to worry. When would he die? How would he die? He didn’t want to go at all, even though he knew he’d watch over SpringClan, he didn’t want to leave.
Questions burned at the tip of his tongue. How did it feel to die? To wake up in StarClan? To leave family and friends behind? Maybe he wasn’t so scared of death, maybe it was leaving. Leaving the world unfulfilled—No, stop. Now is not the time to worry, he told himself. It was a spiritual time. A time to communicate with StarClan not worry about them.
Shadedsun gazed at Wolfspider. “I feel the exact same way.” He whispered. The large tom set his eyes on Cardinalstar, wondering what his leader was thinking. “I—I hope you all are doing well...?” He addressed the StarClan cats awkwardly, having nothing really to say. Or maybe he did but just didn’t know how to say them. He dipped his head respectfully.
Lionspirit turned his broad head in Shadedsun's direction, "We are doing well, thank you, Shadedsun. Cardinalstar made a good choice choosing you as deputy. One day you will make a fine leader yourself." Then he turned to Cardinalstar, "I'm glad to see you as leader, at last. We granted Eternalstar leader because of her determination to bring Springclan back together. Unfortunately, there were some unexpected turn of events. I have faith in you, Cardinalstar. I believe you were and always had been the rightful leader of Springclan until you are ready to step down."
Leopardspot sat and listened to his new clanmate, nodding in agreement. He had only wished he would be alive under Cardinalstar's rein. However, he knew he would be able to watch over his clan from Starclan even if he couldn't live among them anymore.
"I'm glad I'm not the only one." Wolfspider whispered in response to Shadedsun and dipped his head gratefully to Smokecloud, relaxing slightly.
____
"I should have stepped up sooner. It's a choice I will regret for the rest of my days but from here on out I will do my best to be a leader SpringClan can be proud of." Cardinalstar replied, thrilled that StarClan approved of his choice of deputy, not that there was any reason not to, it just felt good to know that his choice was approved.
