Skipstep sat on the bank of the river watching it pass by. 4 seasons prior he’d been here. Seeking out Hazelcascade finally drawing up the courage to confess... then she was gone, and Littlebird had come into his life. .
He was glad she had, he’d been on a dark path when she came into his life, one he feared he was moving towards again.
He didn’t know what it was but something in him felt frayed, felt strained edgy. He’d taken to pulling away from his mate as fears of her dying, or worsedisappearing had slithered into his mind. Poisoning his thoughts with fear.
it frustrated him that he was becoming this way. He’d been fine sure he’d been overprotective and overbearing at times, but never feeling that creeping fear that wiggled it’s way in when he had some down time.
Souring time with his kits as he tried to be happy while fears of losing them ran circles around his mind.
It was now at the point he feared the fear. The unease in his mind that there was something to fear. Even if it was the fear of him losing his mate, his kits, his family that he had no answer to. One day they’d die and move on. But what if they all did while he was here? What if they died and he didn’t know about it?
What if-
skipstep dunked his head in the water. Pulling it back out and gasping for a moment shivering from the sudden cold. Thoughts finally going silent as his focus shifted to how cold he was.
"Dad, what in the sun god's name are you doing?" came the voice of his son from the bank of the river, his yellow eyes widened in shock. He had never seen a cat swim before,as a lot of SunClan cats avoided the water.
At first he had thought his father had fallen into the river, but it was clear that he was just standing there. He walked closer, his feet just outside the reaches of the water, an invisible barrier. "Momma always said your not supposed to go in the water, that its dangerous"
