Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Her body was little more than a shifting shadow bent by the darkness of the ebony sky. One might not notice her sitting on the roof of the car upon first glance. She was small and compact, after all, and she excelled at hiding in plain sight. This wasn't the first time that the feline made a grand re-entrance to the group, but this was the first time she was not alone. The tabby she-cat looked down to the earth with slanted eyes. Seated in front of her was a slew of daughters. This was her largest litter yet, something she was less than impressed about. She was not meant to be a mother, nor did she particularly want to. However, these kittens were half-Absum Lux. The group ran in their blood. They were accidental, yes, but they would be used as pawns. The feline was ready to be back in the game, and to be in the game meant to have stacked her hand.
She sighed, glancing away from her children who's soft murmurs went mostly ignored. Who would be the first to arrive? Their father? An Absum Lux feline? If the former, it would be the first time that the tom met the children. Shae had kept them away for their formative moons simply because if she had decided that this would be the litter that she would actually raise. She would raise them the way that she wanted to, which meant for four moons, she kept them under lock and key. Of course, their father knew of their existence. They were prizes, after all. Mating with a former general had a status involved with it, and she understood the purpose of status. He knew they were coming tonight, too. She had formally invited him to the show. After all, Shae had a flare for dramatics, and her returns were often fun to watch. She had always been the cat to set the world on fire, and she would continue to be.
Finn shifted uncomfortably. As the eldest, one would think that she would be the one that was in most control of her siblings. In fact, the contrary was true. In the heirarchy of the siblings, she was second to last, trumping only Kalli. She was not mother's favorite, although perhaps she was mother's favorite punching bag. Although all of the litter faced the claws of Shae when they stepped out of line, it was the pure brown tabby that often got the brunt of it. She was an easy target, after all. Perhaps this was part of the reason that there was a part of her which found itself relieved that they were finally returning to the city. Shae had informed each of them about what the city was and what to expect, and there was a part of Finn that hoped that with it would come a new life. A better life. Of course, she knew that this was just wishful thinking, but hope was one of the few things worth having.
Lane gave Finn a brief glance from her position beside her sister, with only the barest hint of a frown. Their family was too screwed-up for Lane to really experience the normal kind of sisterly love for kits their age, but Finn was still pretty cool, and she didn't deserve all the crap that their mother gave her. That's just what happens when you're low in her hierarchy, she'd realised one day. All the signs pointed to Lane being fairly high up in said hierarchy, contrary to what she'd expect; she didn't know what she'd done to deserve a spot so high, but she knew she wanted to stay there.
Lane also knew enough to know that she'd worn her mask long enough that she'd created a role for herself in their family, an image she'd likely never be able to shed. Failure to live up to expectations would likely result in consequences of some sort. "Excited?" she asked Finn, plastering on a wide, toothy grin. It didn't quite reach her eyes, but she suspected she'd have a lot of opportunities to perfect her fake smile after tonight. "Our lives are gonna change forever, y'know." Liar. Everything will stay the same.
Finn jumped a little bit at her sister's voice. She was always jumping, but in the last week, her body had become even more accustomed to flinching away any time anyone referenced her. It was frustrating; the she-cat's body consistently betrayed her. Of course, it had reason to; it wasn't like her jumpiness wasn't prompted by the fear that claws were going to run across her body at any moment. Still, out of all of her sisters, Lane was probably one of the ones least likely to do anything. This fear, then, was pointless.
After a moment of looking at her sister, processing the words in slow motion, she forced her lips into a smile. Lane's fake smile was much better than Finn's. Although it didn't reach her eyes, Finn's barely touched her face. "That's the hope," she murmured gently. Her voice was gravelly, soft, low. Perhaps it was a voice that hid a melody deep in its tones, but perhaps it was not. "This will be interesting, that's for sure." She shifted her weight slightly, before sighing. "Are you ready for it?"
Like always, the small brown and white kit stayed tucked away in the back. She pricked her ears with the murmurs of her sisters, hazel eyes just barely looking up from their fixation on the ground. Oh, she really wanted to join in, but there just wasn’t much to say on her end. Her mouth stay shut, scared eyes going back to counting her steps.
Shae's tail thrashed. "What a shame that these cats are so slow tonight," she meowed, her voice slightly annoyed. She had expected that by now, someone would have shown up. "Patrolling has apparently gone down hill since I was general, hmmm." For all intents and purposes, Shae had assumed that everything had gone downhill. "And your father? He doesn't seem to love you enough to even come visit you the night I wanted you all to meet. What an absolute shame."
