The air tasted sweet, the sun felt warm, and Cadet Desdemona couldn't be happier. After the new-leaf rains had washed away all of the dead leaves, it brought a soft carpet of viridian grass and tasty plump prey. There were flowers blooming somewhere nearby based on the strength of their scent. Maybe I should go collect some for Post Kilo, she thought with a small smile. The lithe tabby blinked up at the sky with eyes of the same color, basking in the sunlight on her fur. It was days like this one that the tunnel cat wished they lived on the surface. So much to see and smell with every fresh gust of wind... Still, she had a duty to the Regime and she would see it done. She was to bring back at least one piece of prey, and she doubted her partner would consider flowers prey. With a small disappointed sigh, she began across the field and into the nearby forested area, hoping to catch a distracted squirrel.
The peaceful calm of the bright, New-Leaf afternoon was unceremoniously broken by obnoxious yelling as Cadet Desdemona's assigned hunting partner bolted across the field towards her; his long, pitch-black pelt flowing behind him as he ran. The Commander's nephew - as he never failed to remind the young she-cat or anyone else who happened by - had already psyched himself up for another great day of fantastic hunting. Obviously between the two of them, but mostly him though, they were going to bring back another prey to get promoted on the spot. It was coming any day now, after all. "Heeey Deedee," Cadet Primus huffed as he finally caught up to his partner, the slender tom slowing his pace to a proud trot. "You finally ready to get going? I gonna hunt every day you know, to keep my already excellent skills up."

Desdemona wasn't too particular about her name - she had her nickname, Desi, if Desdemona was too long or cumbersome - but she stuck to those two. DeeDee was just too much for the she-cat to handle. They'd hunted together before, of course, and Desi hadn't loved it then and knew she wasn't going to have a great time now. "It's Desi, or Desdemona, Primus," she said with a defeated sigh, rolling her eyes. He was harmless enough, very much like a peacock, in fact. Still, he could grate on her nerves at times, and if she had to listen to him call her DeeDee all day she might come back with a corpse.
"And to answer your question, I try to. But sometimes I can't fit hunting in between my lessons on tracking and patroling. I suppose you've got me beat in that category. I'd just prefer to be as well-rounded as I can be." Trying to be as magnanimous as she could be, Cadet Desdemona added, "But the group needs cats specialized in certain things, as well, I'm sure."
