William was not completely caught off guard by his new assignment to train kadets though it would cut into his wandering time. Luckily he was not doing this alone and he had Changling to work alongside with to train the ten kadets. How they were supposed to teach hunting with that many would be an interesting problem. But first they all had to show up to training. William wasn’t really impatient, aware that young cats did not always have a great sense of time and could sometimes live in their own world. Still he had them waking up with the sunrise, a time that was well defined. The black tom knew it was early for many cats but tired kadets did not argue as much as those with more sleep, plus he did not plan to do serious training today. General territory and maybe light hunting practice was what he had planned, though he had forgotten to discuss an itinerary with Changling.
Grooming his pelt in the meantime he thought back to what his mentor had taught him and how he could improve upon that. William’s explorations outside the territory added extra knowledge that could be useful, though he did have to figure what was necessary. His partner Changling had been trained outside the clan from what he could recall. Perhaps he too had some sort of knowledge that could further the kadets instead of just the basic BrookClan skills. His ears swiveled and his head lifted up as he heard pawsteps coming through the sparse undergrowth. “Welcome, I hope you are ready to learn.” He spoke in a gentle yet commanding tone.
Some how, Kiara was the first one to make it to training, even before her other mentor, Changeling.
Striking yellow eyes peered through the sparse undergrowth, wide with excitement and curiosity. She was excited she finally got a new mentor - wait, not only one, but two, and she got to train with other kadets, which meant friends! As she stepped out into the light, her russet colored pelt shined brilliantly in the sun, accenting the stripes on her forehead that merged into one as it slid down her back and to her tail.
Kiara grinned at William, tail lashing out behind her in utter glee. "Hiya!" She greeted happily, cocking her head to the side and beaming up at her mentor.

Dungeonpaw gave a nod to William and Changeling. The nerves that pulsed through her veins fueled the fire that festered in her soul. She was up for any challenge. Her eyes shifted to the other kadets around her. What were they feeling?
Sunrisepaw had easily risen with the sun, it wasn't anything new for her. The hard part was sneaking out a den with the rest of her family still sleeping. Some, like her father, we light sleepers and she'd ahte to wake them. As the fourth to arrive, she beamed a smile at each of them. "Good morning!" Oh, she was beyond excited for training again. Her last mentored hadn't had much time for her and had resigned as her mentor. She'd understood, and had wished him luck, something that confused him. The happy-go-lucky kadet took her place next to Kiara and Dungeonpaw.
If there was anything she hated more than lowlife society itself, it was when others placed expectations upon herself. She was meant to be a queen, not some commoner that obeyed orders from those lesser than herself! But... if she wanted to follow through with her plans, she’d need to play along. Until the time was right. Thus she padded to the slowly forming group, chin raised high and expression cooly judgmental. “All is well, I’m here. I’m sure everyone was worried about me.”
Dwarfpaw, who was sitting next to his sister Dungeonpaw, rolled his eyes.
"Wait, who are you again?" Came a voice, and out from the undergrowth stepped a radiant pale ginger she-cat, blue eyes aglow with amusement dancing within them. Her gaze was set directly on Bavmorda, her tail flicking behind her as she awaited her reply.
"So where are we starting?" She hoped it was hunting, but she'd be happy to start wherever. Sunrisepaw was just excited to be training, and with a group at that. More people to bounce ideas off of and the hang out with outside of practice.
Bavmorda’s once regal expression quickly grew dark and she threw Medusalith a dark look. “Apparently some of us are still lacking basic manners.” She turned to William. “Shall I suggest that be our first lesson?”
“Ah, can it, prissy.” Dwarfpaw rolled his eyes and glanced at Sunshinepaw. She seemed to be the only one that made sense around here so far. Then again, no one else had really spoken.
Freshpaw looked around at the gathered cats and bit his lip, frowning hesitantly. Was Bavmorda kidding about the manners thing, or was she really suggesting they start with etiquette lessons...? If Spicepaw were here, he'd be able to set him straight, but they'd been assigned to opposite teams, because fate was a cruel god and Freshpaw was born to suffer. "...I'm down for the manners thing," he said, in a voice so quiet he wasn't entirely sure anyone would actually have heard him.
Manners? Really? Parents were supposed to teach that kind of things. Mentors were for learning to be a warrior. Sunrisepaw looked upon them with a confused expression, confused by the idea. Then she felt guilty. Did all of them have parents?
Giving Bavmorda and Medusalith a stern glance he turned to Sunrisepaw. “We will be starting with borders, both internal and external.” They needed to know when they crossed into royal land and had to leave tithes. So in a way it was manners, but that was as close as he was getting to teaching etiquette. Manners was the job of those who raised the kits, not his as a mentor. Besides he already had his own children to teach manners too. That was the main reason he was grateful to be a mentor as it gave him an excuse to leave his kits without feeling bad.
William counted the gathered youth. They were four short and missing Changling as well. Yet he wasn’t going to wait any longer. They could always track the group by scent. “We will be getting started now.” He spoke as he stood up and walked off into the trees. Royal land first and then general borders seemed the most logical idea. So he turned for the falls.
Freshpaw followed along after William, frowning slightly. So, no manners training then, he thought to himself. He hadn't actually expected them to go along with it, but with BrookClan's rather...tumultuous status quo nowadays, the thought of going out into the territory made his stomach begin to churn. "By internal borders, do you mean the...uhm, royal ones? For the royal territory?" he asked, half-expecting no one to answer.
Bavmorda huffed but surprisingly quieted at the stern look she was thrown by the voiny. Glancing back at Medusalith, she stuck out her tongue before standing as regally as she could and padding after the group.
Dwarfpaw snorted, wanting oh so much to fling a mud pie at the she-cat beside him, but thought better of it. He couldn't afford to be thrown from this session on bad behavior. He glanced at Freshpaw as he inquired. Was he trying to suck up? ... Why hadn't he thought of that?
“Yes, you must know when you have to leave a tithe. If any prey is caught on this lands a section of the prey must be brought to the royal house that owns those lands.” There were supposedly consequences for not sharing prey though he could not say that he had ever seen them enforced. It was still better to be safe than sorry. He stopped the group at the edge of E’Clair land. They would only be going around the edges of each land today, if they wanted to see every inch it would take far to long and it would be rude to go investigating land that was sectioned off.
Sunrisepaw hurried to keep pace, not wishing to be at the back of the group. She’d already seen all the different territories with her father and previous mentor. A refresher never hurt though. With a smile plastered on her face, she kept pace with Freshpaw hoping that a more experienced apprentice by his side will help ease and worries the to had. He seemed a little nervous. “Freshpaw, right? I’m Sunrisepaw.”
Freshpaw blinked as Sunrisepaw struck up a conversation with him, his anxiety immediately rising about three distinct levels - not quite enough to raise him up to Unabashed Panic, but enough to put him in Supremely Uncomfortable. "U-um, yeah," he murmured, avoiding eye contact instinctively. Why couldn't his brother be here? Spicepaw was so much better than him when it came to socialising. "Nice to m-meet you, Sunrisepaw." The other apprentice seemed like she knew what she was doing, so he decided to stick by her as much as he could for the rest of the training session. That would lessen his chances of dying horribly in a training-related accident today, right?

"Hey William." Dungeonpaw piped up from behind Dwarfpaw, feeling slightly annoyed at all of Bavmorda's comments. "Why does Brookclan have so many laws and boundaries?" She questioned, although it sounded more like a challenge. She was tired of following the rules all the time. Why did they even have them?
