Zephyrglade had taken a notice to Petaldance for a while, it started with certain goals that would allow him to talk to her. One goal was that after two weeks of being in DayClan he could talk to her, if he talked to her sooner she might just take pity on him for being new and go out with him. Then he decided that he wasn't good enough in his status to be with her and he promised that once he joined the Bright Brigade that he'd approach her because then he'd be worthy. Much to his procrastination dismay he had done that and now he really didn't have any more excuses not to go up to her. Except maybe he wasn't-
"Hey Petaldance," Zephyrglade said to her suddenly.
Oh thank StarClan, if I let my mind finish I wasn't going to approach her until she was an elder...
"I just wanted to say that, I find you really kind and sweet and maybe this is egotistical since we have the same fur color, but I think you're really cool. I just wanted to be up front with you and ask, would you like to go out with me tonight?"

Petaldance had recently fallen into a rhythm. It was time to move beyond her past. She had grieved for far too long and now it was time to look to the future and hope that it held a better world and better promise. Now, her days all looked similar. Wake up, go hunting, participate in a patrol if necessary, go swimming, sun bathe, or bird watching if time, weather and duties allowed, eat, then sleep. She was like a broken record on replay again and again....
Her large blue eyes blinked rapidly at the sudden approach from this Tom she barely new. His name... was Zephyrglade. A nice name even if it was a bit unusual. "I.... me?" The grey blue she-cat asked with surprise, looking around and behind her as if searching for someone else. "I, uh, sure." She replied, panicked and surprised by the sudden invitation. She had no family and no friends so it felt.... strange.

"I- okay." She nodded, still stunned by the proposal. What did this mean? Did he want to be friends with her? Did he... like her? It was all such a confusing prospect she didn't even know where to begin dissecting it and decided to drop those thoughts completely once her head stopped spinning with questions. "The beach is good. I like the water." She whispered a bit bashfully with a nod.
"Amazing and hey, if I'm not wrong the stars are kind of coming out already so. Maybe we could head out?" Zephyrglade asked, a slow lazy smile descended across his jawline before abruptly leaving to a panicked look as he waved his paw, "No pressure though! We could always go later on or tomorrow or well not tomorrow we said tonight. But-"
He looked into her starry eyes and his gaze focused this time, "You know, I want what you want," He said with certainty.

The heat only spread further and deeper at his words and she licked her chest a few times in surprise and embarrassment. "Uh, no, um, now is fine. Let's head there." She stammered once again with an awkward smile. It had been a long time since she spent any time with another cat, let alone friendly time. How was she supposed to react? Her heart pounding loudly in her ears. Why was she nervous? They were just going to go look at some stars.
Zephyrglade led the way, his steps were more like a marching motion, but his steps were soft upon landing never making so much as a sound. His blue grey tail moved from side to side, slow and methodical. Ever so often his tail would whip fast to the next side as though the beat to a song had suddenly hit a powerful note. He was walking to a rhythm that seemingly only he could hear. Now as the midnight blue skies trailed above him he began to look back at her and slowed his pace to make sure she was walking at his side. His Russian blue fur blended with the twilight, while the sharp planes of his face shone white. He turned to look at Petaldance, "So were you always from here, if that's not a rude question?" he asked and for once felt calm talking to her.
He could hear the distant sound of waves in the coming distance and felt the light squish of the ground from the ground not having enough foliage to soak it up. It felt like he was back in WaterClan again and because of that he could relax a little. Usually at times like these he would grow sad remembering that Violetstar would never let him come back home. That the window to that closed long ago and while he never wanted to return to the memories back there he felt guilty for leaving his family behind. But now those problems felt so far away walking next to Petaldance.

She met his eyes and blinked, surprised at the question. Slowly, she nodded before responding "Yes, I was born here in Dayclan. I even had a brother a long time ago." Of course, Foxkit was dead now and despite how many seasons it had been she longed to find him happy and healthy or at least find him to give him a proper burial. She still couldn't quite let go of him even after the death of her parents.
"Which clan were you born in?" She asked curiously. She remembered him appearing suddenly so she knew he had not been born in Dayclan and the way he behaved and reacted to others made it seem like he was a clan cat, not one of those group cats or a kittypet or loner.
"I was born in WaterClan when my mom was leader there. I was a real trouble maker though so I kept getting held back from becoming a warrior for a long time. There was a rogue gang down by the beach here, well used to be anyways. I kept hanging out with them and my dad would have to drag me back home. Obviously I learned to stay put as a clan cat eventually though, it just took me longer. Nice to know that even though I was a slacker as an apprentice I'm apart of the Bright Brigade now," He smirked.
They had been walking a while, but it was worth it when they arrived. Despite being so close to two-leg place no one was there. The white sand moved beautifully in the small breaths of wind and the ocean although it roared against the shores was almost as gentle and soothing as a lullaby. Zephyrglade without any hesitation had already begun walking over to it and lied down a few paw steps before the waves could hit him, "The beach rises up at night. So we'll have to move back eventually. I like to sometimes run out when the waves pull back and then run away when it tries to come back. I don't know, I find it fun. Though I guess it's a bit more fun for me since I know how to swim."

She smiled a bit shyly and settled down next to him with her legs tucked underneath of her and she took in a long, deep breath. It smelled of salt and like that distinct smell that only the ocean's waters carried. Ironically, it was a source of comfort for her and her nerves settled slowly but surely because of the familiar and comforting smell. "I suppose as a Waterclan cat you'd be an excellent swimmer. I enjoy swimming. I know, it's rare for a Dayclan cat but I taught myself how to swim since I was an apprentice and it sort of became a past time." She admitted to him. She could probably be mistaken for a Waaterclan cat herself with how well she swam.
"Really?" Zephyrglade asked, his eyes lit brightly, "Mind if I test your skill?" His smile widened when he said it, shifting into that genuine, contagious grin.
He waded into the water backwards creating a ripple in his wake. Mischief danced in his eyes as he got neck deep, "Y'know, if you're daring enough to swim over here," He winked.

A rare face of happiness and amusement spread across her features and she splashed into the water without hesitation. "You dare call me a coward?" She asked playfully with a smile, gracefully and skillfully swimming over to where he waded. "What do you think? Do my skills pass?" She mused.

Truthfully, she did not go under the water very often but nonetheless she followed his lead and held her breath to go under. It was very cold and having her ears being covered and filled with the cold substance wasn't entirely pleasant but it wasn't so bad either. She surfaced for air and paddled there for a moment, looking at him expectantly.
Zephyrglade came to the surface, his slick fur covering the edges of his right eye with a cheeky smirk, "Impressive."
"So," He said treading the water in place, "Tell me a bit about yourself, you're not one of those insane girls who strip their prey into piece before eating it are you?" He joked.

She chuckled, treading the water on the surface and keeping an eye on him. He was interesting and Petaldance had to admit he struck a chord of interest within her. “I definitely don’t do _that_ but.. I can’t attest to my complete sanity. After all, the mind is fickle and changes like the tide. I am simply… surviving these days. What about you? Do I have to worry about you do crazy things like searching for two legs to harass or something?”
Maybe he should have told her about his murderess family who could very well some day drag him off into the league and force him to be another hunter like his father if they should ever find out of his existence. Or the fact that his father suspected him and his litter mates of communicating with some sort of Dark Forest cat. But instead he decided to go with the safer, more first date friendly confession.
"Well I used to be a part of a pirate gang as an apprentice. I was actually an apprentice for over a moon cause my mom was punishing me for constantly running off to join the gang. One day it must have gotten through to me cause I stopped going and decided to grow up and be the good little clan boy I am now," He purred with a trouble makers grin, "But I still wonder about that pirate life, living life as a rogue on the seas. I don't know, I always pictured it with my brother and Caspianpaw's not here anymore..." Zephyrglade's voice faltered and he found himself almost too sad to be ashamed at completely ruining the adorably embarrassing story he confessed to Petaldance. He moved to DayClan so he didn't have to think of him or Caspianpaw's mate or the one kit left behind from it all. No one talked about the plague that hit WaterClan, but it took out everyone, every kit, elder, and apprentice. They weren't called Survival Clans for nothing, but he couldn't survive in WaterClan constantly moping around about Caspianpaw, it felt like the better choice to move into DayClan with his grandma even if it was away from everyone he ever knew.

She smiled and purred at his cute story, but could clearly sense the wave of sadness that washed over him as he mentioned his brother, Caspainpaw. She swam closer and licked his cheek softly. "It's okay, you don't need to talk about it. I understand. I had a brother who is no longer here - Foxxkit. I miss him." She said softly. She was finally learning that she needed to let him go and it was the hardest thing she had ever done in her life.
