Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It had been just over two full days since the attack.
On the first night, nothing much had happened, and no one really noticed anything wrong with Mars. He'd maybe felt a bit under the weather, but given his injuries, and the betrayal of his own Superior, wasn't that sensible? Venus had been right, not that Apollo had ever doubted her. Truthfully, the tom hoped he'd execute Limavady for the betrayal. He deserved as much, at least.
The first day after the battle was when things started to go awry. Mars had come to him with some sickness, and the herbs he'd given his brother didn't seem to want to work.
The second day had been worse, his brother still wasn't getting better. In fact, he was getting worse. He'd tried everything for every sickness he knew, and yet, it was still hopeless.
Now it was the morning of the third day, just over twenty four hours before the first of the Commander's lives would be claimed. Mars was still sleeping as the Guider frantically sorted through herbs, cursing his own ineptitude at being unable to do anything for his littermate. What use was he as a Guider if he couldn't even help Mars in his time of need. The mostly white tom, in his frustration, knocked over the pile of herbs beside him, sending ordered plants flying into the air, some dried ones crumbling as they were crushed under poppy heads, or floated away on the barest breeze that wound through the Commander's den.
It wasn't surprising that Apollo hadn't gotten a moment's rest since his brother had become ill, not that this almost obsessive passion was unusual to him anyway. He'd consulted with all the Guiders, anyone with the slightest bit of sense about herbs, and no one, not one single cat had been able to help him with the illness. They suggested the tried and true methods that weren't working, those with unconventional ideas did little either, for that matter. He didn't know what to do, plain and simple. But he had to try. He couldn't fail his brother, not when the tom's life was on the line.
It had been a hard three days for Mars. SunClan had attacked. They had been warned of course so they had time to formulate a plan and drive them back. Everything had gone as expected until Limavady's betrayal. Mars hadn't trusted him for a while now. He just hadn't had due cause to demote him. Venus's word alone wouldn't have been justifiable even if it had been enough for him. He should have followed his gut though. He had known that Limavady was a snake. He had spent the next day brooding over this, only stopping to go to his brother for what he had thought was a mild illness.
By the second day he had gotten worse. His energy had left him and he had been confined to his den as more symptoms began to surface.
Now on the third day, he was barely there at all. He slept more than anything else. He had woken up a few times to try to drink some water, but he was struggling to even keep that much down. Part of him did realize that it had to have something to do with Foxstar. He refused to believe it was a coincidence, but how? He couldn't think of any way she could have caused something like this. Diana had been sent out to spy on SunClan though. Mars had sent her yesterday. If she made use of the tunnels, she should be able to report back in a few days. It was a dangerous mission, but SunClan was a dangerous enemy and they needed to know how the capture of Foxstar was affecting the clan. Once he recovered and his soldiers were fit for battle, he would be preparing a counter strike. It was best to hit them while they were disorganized from the loss of Foxstar. It didn't sit well with him, but SunClan had started this war and they had hurt his family. They could not go unpunished.
It was funny to think about honestly. He was most likely dying and yet he was still plotting the next step of their war. He couldn't help it. He had to have something to think about other than the pain and sickness that had spread through his body. He knew Apollo was doing his best, but part of him had already resigned himself to his fate. He hadn't completely given up though. As long as his littermate was willing to fight, so was he.
"Don't be so hard on yourself. You're doing everything you can." Dark green eyes were locked on Apollo now. His voice was quiet and raspy and his breathing was labored, but he could still speak for now. "You'll catch it from Diana later if you give up now. It's been a while since I've seen you get one of her lectures though so it might be fun to watch." He smiled. It was weak but it still held the same cheerful charisma he carried most of the time. "Don't forget to take time to rest as well. I'm sure Sabre would be willing to take over long enough for you to eat and rest." Their uncle was a bit reclusive and had been since the death of their mother several years ago, but he was a highly skilled raiser and one Mars would trust with his life if it came down to it. He knew Apollo though. He doubted his brother would rest unless he was forced to do so at this point.
