Graythorn raised his his head and looked at each of the cats who were chosen for this patrol. "In a dream," he paused thinking how ironic the answer to the nightmare epidemic was given to him in a dream, "In a dream, StarClan showed me the plant that would cure our illness. It's a strange looking plant, entirely black, that has seven long and narrow leaves. A small bump like the center of a daisy is in it's middle. And it stands about this high." He raised his paw about a tail length from the ground. "You will find it on an island south of here. That's all I was told." There was a sadness in his gaze, mixed with tiredness, as he looked at the cats. "Time is of the essence. If the entire clan falls prey to this..." his voice trailed off. He didn't need to voice what everybody already knew. It would be the end of SummerClan.
"How do you know it wasn't the mind illness tricking you into thinking it was a message from Starclan?" Stormgazer boldly questioned with a narrowing of her eyes. It was quite ironic that he was given a sign in a dream at a time where their dreams were against them.
Blinking at Stormgazer in surprise Raj raised a brow and tilted his head, side-eyeing the medicine cat to guage his reaction to the she-cats bold question. He hadn't assumed Stormgazer would have it in her to pose such a question. She had seemed to be a rule follower to him, but perhaps she had simply be silent due to being plagued by tiredness. "I assume he met with the starclan cats about the dreams as well. Or something. Whatever mumbo jumbo it is medicine cats do." He drawled, just wanting to get this journey started.

The fur on the back of Graythorn's neck fluffed out making him look like he had a mane. His two eyes narrowed into tiny slits and with ears flattened he hissed his reply to the two cats. "First of all I don't have the mind illness. And secondly I can tell the difference from a regular dream and one sent by StarClan." Who are these cats pretending to know more about this that me?! His tail whipped behind him as he fixed his eyes on Raj. "And yes, I've met with StarClan cats in this matter. I wouldn't commission a journey such as this one fraught with danger and who knows what without being absolutely sure about the facts. AND," he continued, "I would have gone on this trip myself if I wasn't so badly needed in camp!" It was all he could do to restrain himself. The thought that he'd be making more work for himself later if he clawed up these cats, helped him to reign in some control of his anger.
Stormgazer flinched at Greythorn's reaction to her question. Boy, was he moody. she thought, flattening her ears. "I was just pointing it out. We dont want to risk any lives over a dream." After she said that, she realized what exactly she had said and only waited for another outburst from the medicine cat. If she didnt get an ear clawed off by him, she surely would get a scolding from Ravenstar.

Graythorn closed his eyes and began mumbling softly to himself. No cat but himself knew he was counting to ten. Upon reaching that number he turned toward the SummerClan leader and in a calm but slightly strained voice he said, "Ravenstar, I'm through dealing with them. If I saying anything more, I'll and everyone else will regret it. I'm going back to camp." He knew he had to get his temper under control if he was going to be an effective medicine cat. No cat would ever respect him again if he were to claw up a clanmate.
Ragingspire's ear flicked back at the medicine cat's outburst. He thought it was a fair question. Dreams always felt real when you were inside of them, so why wouldn't Graythorn be tricked into thinking it was a real message from StarClan? Still, he thought it probably wasn't a fake sign. They wouldn't lose anything except their time and patience if the cure wasn't found, but they had everything to gain; it was worth a shot.
The bronzed tom sighed. "Thank you for the traveling herbs and information, Graythorn," he told the tom, his voice tense, daring the tom to argue again. "We'll take it from here."
Stormgazer felt rather bad for pushing the medicine cat to his limits but before she could say an apology or anything else for that matter, Ragingspire spoke up. She didn't mind, though. She was just relieved to have the attention off of her again.

"You're welcome and thank you, Ragingspire," Graythorn replied in a calmer voice. He didn't even look at Stormgazer for fear of getting angry again. Perhaps he was over stressed. It was time for him to get an apprentice to help him with his duties. He'd see to it right after he gets back to camp and gets some rest. "May StarClan guide your pawsteps," he meowed to the group before turning to leave.
"Well, so then," Crimsonpaw meowed to his fellow patrol members. "When are we leaving?"

"May starclan guide your path." ravenstar echoed Greythorn's words and she gave Stormgazer a sharp look for his resistance to the medicine cat. "Be sure to trust in each other or you'll never be able to make it home. Go now before you get cold feet." She added the last bit in good humor and smiled, waiting for the cats to leave.

Crimsonpaw looked at the leader of the patrol, Labrynthiansoul, and waited eagerly to get started. The sooner they left, the sooner they'd be back with the cure. In his mind was the image of Mudpaw who was one of those suffering with this strange illness. I'm doing this for you, he thought.
Ragingspire nodded seriously. The bronze tom rose to his paws and stretched, then turned to Labrynthiansoul to lead the way out of camp and into the unknown.
The orange tabby sighed, his behavior seeming put upon that he of all creatures should be given the burden of making sure the lot managed to stay on the path ahead of them. Did Ravenstar trust him that much? Admittedly, he was rather keen to get this out of the way, but he also rather enjoyed the entertainment he got out of their new narcoleptic friends. Was he ready to let them go? No one has ever said population control was a bad thing.
“Yes, alright,” he muttered, standing and leading the arrow of their patrol wherever it is they were supposed to be going. In all fairness he hadn’t been paying attention, too focused on the way Ravenstar’s eyelids seemed to droop every now and then. Was she drugged? He hummed, his mind elsewhere, only halting a bit when he found he would’ve walked straight into a tree.
“Right then! Waddle this way, chickadees!”
Zelkovapaw glanced at Crimsonpaw worriedly. Her father was an oaf.

"Does Labrynthiansoul even know where we're supposed to be going?" Crimsonpaw commented in a low voice to Zelkovapaw. To him the tom seemed quite out of it, especially after trying to walk into a tree. The reddish furred apprentice was taking this whole mission very seriously. It's extremely important to the clan that we find the cure, he thought as he looked around at the rest of the patrol.
The young apprentice felt herself sweating at the question, glancing to the side to avoid eye contact. How she wished she could be anyone else’s daughter. The orange tabby may feel regularly anguished by her presence, but the feeling was mutual; it was embarrassing being related to the one cat that never seemed to take things seriously.
“Er, yeah, I’m sure he’s just.” She deflated. “Trying to lighten things up.”
Opposite her father, the apprentice wanted to find the cure as fast as possible — firstly, so life would go back to normal, and secondly, so her father would stop having so much fun in light of the fact that their clanmates were literally dying. You’d think since he was a former leader he’d have some measure of urgency or desire to keep the clan afloat, but instead it seemed like he was always doing his damndest to prove everyone wrong.

"Oh, okay," Crimsonpaw replied. "I guess that's good. We need to be in good spirits as we travel. I wonder how long it's going to take us to get to that island?" He didn't particularly like the notion of going into water, especially water he wasn't familiar with. He knew the streams and the lake within their own territory and knew where it was safe to cross but he never liked going in over his head.

(Just letting you all know - this patrol is set to return on June 21st. If you can finish rping the mission that would be great and you are free to rp it past then for the sake of thread and story completion but the redguard will be announced and the plot officially over on that day.)
Ragingspire continued at the back of the group, his long tail flicking from side to side. Labrynthiansoul's antics bothered him less now that they were out in the open as he focused on his memories of the first journey he'd taken and how vastly different it had been from this one --- though it wasn't as different as he liked. He had about as much faith in his group's success this time as he did the last. "Apprentices. A hard patrol to put apprentices on," he muttered to himself and shook his head.

Crimsonpaw's ears flicked at the word 'apprentices'. He barely caught what the warrior said. Maybe he didn't hear right. Was Ragingspire complaining or was he concerned? he wondered. He lagged back to speak with the warrior. "Why do you say that?" he asked. "Don't you think we can pull our own weight?" He felt he was ready for anything that might come his way.

"We don't know where we're going or what we'll be facing," Ragingspire answered evenly, looking back at Crimsonpaw unaffected. He knew he was right because he'd tried the same thing when he was younger. "I don't want to spend every fight worried you're going to get hurt because you haven't finished your training."
