private to the plot patrol and summerclan staff
In this thread, Greythorn has received a dream from Starclan and Ravenstar, Tuskblood, and Greythorn have chosen a patrol of six to fetch a cure.
The cure is said to be to the south on a little island. It is a small black plant that the clans do not have a name for and they are simply calling "The Cure."
Due to time and getting the patrol going, this thread will begin after the chosen cats have been summoned and will be briefed on their mission.
These are also considered tryouts for the redguard position. Summerclan staff may insert role-plays of events happening to ensure the patrol continues
in a timely manner so we can continue to part three when cats are recovering and Ravenstar brings change to Summerclan.
Ravenstar had summoned the cats who her and her trusted deputy and medicine cat had decided and agreed on to a rather secluded location in the southernmost corner of Summerclan's territory. There were too many cats to discuss this in her den and this would put them much closer to where they would need to leave after all. She had instructed Ghostpaw to help Graythorn prepare the traveling herbs the cats would need since the young cat did not yet have an apprentice and waited patiently. She would instruct them to hunt and sleep as necessary to begin their journey, but to return as quickly as possible. Ravenstar had been having the dreams herself and they had only worsened. For the first time yesterday, she found herself passed out at the edge of the river in their territory and knew that it was progressing quickly. She was thankful for the dream Greythron received but was anxious about the long journey the cats would have to embark on, possibly including swimming if they could not find a way to get to an island with dry paws.
The sleek black she-cat arrived at the waiting place and sat down with her tail wrapped neatly around her paws to wait. It was unlikely any of them would keep her waiting for long but you never truly knew what might come up, especially these days.
Stormgazer was the first to arrive, dipping her head to her leader once she had reached Ravenstar. The grey tabby hadn't been effected by the illness, surprisingly. While most of the clan were exhausted from countless sleepless nights, she was well rested and ready to start their journey. "Greetings, Ravenstar. Seems like I'm the first to arrive. The other's must have had another rough night."
After his adventures in his youth, the former leader's son had assumed it would take him a long time to settle back into clan life -- but instead, he slipped into his old skin like he had never been gone. He had enjoyed the time with his friends outside of the clan's borders, but this was his home, and it felt right to be among clan cats again. The illness had him seriously concerned, and though he knew the clan had faced epidemics before, it had never been something like this. The strange dreams haunting his clan made him uneasy.
Bronze shoulders rippling in the light, he ducked his way into the den from the outside, nodding crisply to the cats already present in the den.

A young dark ginger furred tom walked into the requested randevu place with an air of seriousness surrounding him. He was very pleased he was chosen for this special patrol even though he was still an apprentice. He hoped all his hard work and training just might be paying off and that's why he had been singled out. Although he presented a calm appearance, a current of excitement ran though him from ears to tail tip. "Ravenstar," he said with a dip of his head in greeting to his clan leader.
Everyone seemed to regard this quest with a sense of grave understanding; the business manner had pulled everyone's shoulders taut with tension. Not for the orange tabby, though, that padded over the ridge to the meeting place and chuckled slightly in his throat. So it seemed others were already here. At least it would keep any awkward conversation from spewing from his lips. Smirking, though there was a darkness that swirled in his heart – he hadn't slept well the night before and wanted nothing more than to go back to bed – he stopped on the outskirts of the group, nodding his head to Ravenstar when he caught her eye. They'd had a discussion before about the circumstances of the clan's current epidemic. He understood what this meant to her, even if he didn't entirely reflect the same views.
"Stormgazer, Ragingspire," he greeted with a gruff voice, inhaling a deep breath and finishing in a sigh, "Crimsonpaw." He narrowed his eyes at the apprentice. "Have you seen my daughter? The mouse brain." He shook his head, finishing in a mutter.
Speak of the devil and he shall come forth, a small white and ginger she-cat raced toward the meeting place, gasping for breath. "Sorry, sorry, sorry!" She chanted, voice every growing higher. When she caught the disapproving stare of her father, her shoulders slumped and she looked down at her paws. "I didn't mean to."
Stormgazer nodded in greeting to Labryntiansoul when he said her name. Then looked sympathetically at his daughter though she stayed quiet and out of their relationship.

Crimsonpaw nodded his greeting too to Labryntiansoul. As he was about to speak saying he hadn't seen Zelkovapaw recently, she came running in. He caught the look of disapproval on the tom's face and he felt a pang of pity toward the white and ginger she cat. "Sit by me," he meowed to her in a friendly manner as he glanced to the empty place at his side.
Feeling eyes on her, she seemed to attempt to sink further into herself until the gentle voice of Crimsonpaw reached her ears. Glancing at him in surprise, her shocked expression quickly melted into one of gratitude and she shuffled to sit next to him, blushing slightly. It was humiliating. She'd strived for so long to gain Labyrinthiansoul's approval, but it seemed no matter how hard she tried, she kept screwing up. "Thank you." She murmured.
The orange tabby's amber eyes narrowed at the sight before he turned back to Ravenstar, prepared to hear her final briefing.

Ravenstar returned each greeting with a smile and warm greeting of her own. Despite the dire and grave circumstances, she still cared for and trusted each one of these cats with her life. In the end, it might actually come down to that. Upon Labrynthiansoul's arrive closely followed by her daughter she eyed him for a moment. "She's not late, we are still waiting on one other." Raj was still not here, but hopefully he would arrive sooner rather than later or they may have their work cut out for them more than expected. "We will wait for the last cat to arrive so I do not have to repeat myself." She announced to them.
Labyrinthiansoul snorted. Was that a joke? It was dark if it was and he found his tail twitching in interest. "As best as can be expected with SummerClan facing death by narcolepsy."
Zelkovapaw glanced at her father, then to the leader, and shuffled her paws before speaking up. "I had a dream I was fishing!" She smiled. "I got turned into a fish."
"You're as grumpy as ever Labyrinthiansoul." Raj spoke as the lean tom padded up to the group, graceful steps weaving him into a place besides Stormgazer. His sharp golden amber hued eyes, so much like his uncle Tybalts, cut to the large orange. "Every time I speak to you I find myself wondering why my uncle ever put up with your miserable attitude." Rather ironic Raj was chiding the older tom for his attitude, when Raj himself was known for his cutting tongue. But the tom never claimed to be a saint, nor would he deny being a hypocrite at times.
Raj had seen Labyrinthiansoul around with a new she-cat, had noticed the tom had returned to Summerclan with kits, and while he had refused to be affectionate with his uncle when he had still be in Summerclan he still felt betrayed on his behalf. The grudge ran deep, and Labyrinthiansoul's natural demeanor only helped deepen the yawning bit of resentment that had been building ever since his uncle had left due to the orange tabby.

Ravenstar gazed around at the cats surrounding her, satisfied with the choices her and her council had made. They were all strong and fine cats of Summerclan and Ravenstar had intentionally placed one of her senior warriors who she knew could lead to head this group specifically. It was a bit of a rough decision to place any apprentices - let alone two of them - one such a dangerous and taxing patrol but she was confident in Crimsonpaw and Zelkovapaw. She smiled at the apprentices dream proclamation before clearing her throat to indicate that she was about to speak.
"As you all know by now, we have chosen the six of you to embark on a patrol for the Cure. I will allow Greythorn to go into details about the specific plant when he arrives with your travelling herbs since he will understand it much better than myself. For this patrol, I am assigning Labrynthiansoul as the leader of this patrol to ensure that you all get to your destination and home and to make difficult calls in times of hardship." She paused, allowing herself to meet the gaze of each of the cats around her. "You are all fine warriors and apprentices of Summerclan and we are depending on you. I need you and so do your clanmates."
His ear twitched in acknowledgement of each cat entering the den, but didn't join in on the conversation, his gaze lingering curiously on the youngest apprentice to join them. He didn't know any of these cats well -- save perhaps Crimsonpaw, though he hadn't spoken to his nephew much -- so he was quiet as everyone gathered and Ravenstar greeted them, the tip of his tail drumming on the ground as he waited for her to arrive at their task. He wasn't much for small talk, and under ordinary circumstances he might have been more amused by Labrinthiansoul, but instead he was just impatient for them to begin. This was important and he had never been one to idly sit by and chat when there was work to be done.
Ragingspire focused on the medicine cat after Ravenstar was done speaking, his brow furrowing slightly. He had a poor memory, especially for herbs; all plants looked near the same, as he'd found out when he tried to help his sister collect some and been scolded for bringing back all the wrong things. With any luck someone else would remember the specifics of this mystery plant enough to identify it.

Graythorn entered the group of cats carrying a small hollow log about the length of a cat's tail. A vine was twined tightly around it except for the part that stretched the length of the log. There it formed a nice makeshift handle for easy toting. Inside the log were six small leaf packets filled with various traveling herbs. Carefully, Graythorn pawed each one out and placed one in front of each cat. He then sat down next to Ravenstar. Through it all he didn't utter a single word. It was easy to tell that the gray tabby medicine cat was tired. His head was drooped and his shoulders were hunched giving him a much older appearance than he actually was, eighteen moons.
Crimsonpaw shifted slightly as he bent down to examine the contents of his package. "I don't know about you," he told Zelkovapaw, as he pawed open the leaf exposing the herbs within. "But I wasn't born a rabbit." The pile of herbs looked like what some rodent might eat. He wrinkled his nose in disgust and looked around at the others to see if they were going to eat theirs.
Raj dipping his head to Graythorn, ate his herbs quickly; the faster he got it down the less he would taste it. Not one to make a fuss really. The slim tom sat back once he finished, and glanced around, not surprised to see the apprentices hadn't touched their yet. Though they would eat them if they wanted to continue on with the patrol so he wasn't worried and simply let his thoughts trail. Like the others he was tired but not quite yet to the level of walking around half-asleep.

Tuskblood sat beside Graythorn, watching as he displayed the log. Her eyes drifted from cat to cat, praying to her ancestors and Starclan that they would each return home safe. They were strong and resilient, even the apprentices. Her paws itched to travel with the group, but she knew that the clan needed her and Ravenstar to remain just in case one of them gave way to the sickness. Her eyes flicked to the leader, knowing that there was a possibility that she was battling the dreams as well. Tuskblood herself had even started having nightmares a few sunrises before the gathering.
Stormgazer dipped her head in greeting when Graythorn entered. When she received her bundle of herbs, she opened it up to reveal all the herbs needed to begin their travel. The smell released once the bundle opened and it smelled sweet, yet sour and she wasn't sure she wanted to eat it. Though, she knew she would have to if she wanted to keep her strength up for the trip. After building up the courage to eat the foul smelling plants, she finally lapped them up and quickly swallowed. They tasted bitter and she had to force it down. She stuck out her tongue and rubbed it with her paw, trying to rid the awful taste. She wondered how the others were able to swallow them so easily.

Crimsonpaw watched as the others began eating the herbs. He eyed them once again and sighed. He wanted to come on this mission so he reasoned eating a few awful herbs wasn't going to stop him. "I don't want to be left out," he told Zelkovapaw. "So I'll make like a rabbit and eat them." He opened the leaf wider and licked the herbs up. "Not too bad," he lied before licking his chest fur in an attempt to rid his mouth of the bitter taste. "I just better not grow long ears because of this."

After each cat had eaten their herbs and shifted their attention back on herself, Tuskblood, and Greythorn, she began speaking once again. "For the sake of time, I wish you all good luck. Greythorn, please explain what exactly they're looking for and how they will know what it is when they find it. As soon as he has finished you will be able to head out on your journey." It was nerve wracking. They would have no idea when or if this patrol would return but she had hope and confidence that they would.
