Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Everything, hear your own name. We live in a barren wasteland with no herbs. Forming friendships with other clan cats and being able to take their herbs when I can literally only supply them with my knowledge and help is all I have to offer. We don't even have poppyseeds that naturally grow on our territory. This is probably why our last two medicine cats have been executed because they couldn't get the job done," Mistyveil said.
"Okay, well, one was executed. The other is in prison and is my pet, I'm calling her Cherry," Barrenfrost smiled.
Mistyveil narrowed her eyes at Barrenfrost and walked across SunClan territory. Leatherstar had told her to try and get some herbs from SunClan, but she didn't understand why. It was way out of their way, but perhaps he knew something she didn't.
Littlebird found solace in the sound of the babbeling river and the song birds overhead. The warm sun against her back, a reminder that the Sun God was always watching over them.
At least that is what the young she-cat wanted to believe, but recent events made her doubt the sun god's intentions. She had met the cat behind the legends, but she wasn't sure what to make of him just yet. A god will lots of power, but yet one who failed to wield that power when his followers prayed.
Even now, she prayed for his forgiveness, for her recent actions must have angered him. The kits she was now carrying was placing a heavy toll on her young body, and each day she felt herself growing weaker. She was to young to be carrying kits, and they were taking the very nutrients that she needed to thrive.
Foxstar had been treating her to increase her appetite, ease her stomach pains, and to stop the contractions. Yet, everyone feared that the kits would be born before their time.
She found herself here alone with only her prayers, as the scent of WinterClan waifed towards her on the wind. Her first thought was that Leatherstar had found out the truth and came to confront her, but this scent was different. She rose to her paws, positioning herself to see the intruders as they came within view of the boarder.
"Hello over there! I'm a medicine cat from WinterClan," Mistyveil called from the distance, not wanting the cat to become too alarmed by their presence or jump to any hostile conclusions.
"You can approach us slowly," Barrenfrost instructed coldly.
"Barren, were on their territory, you don't get to call the shots," Mistyveil said, almost exhausted by his behavior.
Of all the cats to find at SunClan's border, she had not expected for find Barrenfrost. The tom had tormented her as a child, and she still called him brother. The word was more of a formality to describe the fact that her mother had adopted him and his litter, than to describe their relationship "Yes brother, you really should learn some manners"
She revealed herself to the two cats, her long fur coated in the warm colors and symbols that denoted her rank within SunClan. She had no doubt that Barrenfrost would recoginze her immediatly, although Mistyveil would probably only recognize her after seeing her eye. The same golden eyes that her father had used to install fear into so many other cats.
"And what brings WinterClan's medicine cat to SunClan's boarder?" she stood between to two and the invisible line that marked the edge of their territory. SunClan's territory was sacred, and should they cross uninvited she would be forced to take action.
Of course in her current condition, the best she could hope for was to get help.
"Gods like me don't need manners, Littlekit," He smirked.
Mistyveil turned to Barrenfrost with a cold long look, "I killed my kit siblings when I was eight moons old. My mother when I turned nine moons and by eleven moons I considered it a mercy kill to finish off my father. I loved them, I don't even know you. But I know I got away with it for four years. So shut up," Mistyveil turned back to Littlebird with a bashful tilt of her head, "Sorry, boys are just so fickle. I have five boys at home, suuuch a handful."
Mistyveil cleared her throat, "Ahem, um. So I thought the same thing too, but Leatherstar actually suggested I should come to SunClan to fetch some herbs. Maybe I can talk to your... Medicine cat?"
She knew SunClan had changed from what her clan told her and from what she observed at the gathering, but she had been a prisoner for a long time and didn't exactly know what changed and what didn't. She did know that SunClan was more Revolution Group with a different religion and culture than before, but she didn't know exactly how much had changed and if they had medicine cats anymore.
"If you believe that, than you could learn a lot from the Sun God" she replied. That much was true from her perspective. She had met with the Sun God, and he had been nothing but respectful and understanding. If Barrenfrost wanted to paint himself as a god, than he should at least do his research.
The corner of her lip turned upwards, as Mistyveil chastised the young tom. She couldn't help but take a liking to another strong she-cat who wasn't afraid to put an unruely tom in their place.
"We have no medicine cat here, however if it is herbs that you seek than perhaps I may be of assistance. I am the Priestess Promised of SunClan. I will one day guide my clan on the correct path. One of my many duties is to ensure the health and well being of SunClan. Are you seeking something in paticular? If I remember correctly, WinterClan has never been an easy place to find herbs"
Her explanation neither promised Mistyveil assistance, nor did it deny her request. She saw this as an oppurtunity to gather more information about WinterClan's current state. She left it opened ended, allowing the others to do the talking.
Barrenfrost yawned watching the two. When he overheard Mistyveil and Leatherstar speaking and how she would need an escort he thought it would be enjoyable. Maybe she would head to Absum Lux and he could bash a few heads in on any cat that interfered. But in SunClan territory with his sister who was pretending she was all that. Which, she was definitely better than other cats, she was still his sister and a piece of Goldenstar. Y'know, maybe she did deserve to be assertive. SunClan should be blessed, absolutely basking in her greatness to have someone of such proud WinterClan lineage apart of their clan. Maybe Littlebird needed to come off as tough. If he was deputy of WinterClan he would be even more violent than he already was. He almost wanted to apologize to her, she was only doing what Goldenstar would have wanted her to do. But. He still had his own image to keep up.
"Oh. I'm sorry for your loss," Mistyveil said, taking the fact that they didn't have a medicine cat as that the medicine cat must have died, "If you ever need my services I can always help. I may not have a lot of herbs, but I still possess knowledge."
She tilted her head, her rough expression softened at this angle, a distant quality to her face, like clouds muddling a crisp blue sky, "We could definitely use an herb like poppyseeds. We do not need any herbs that have to do with aches of any sorts, especially stomach aches and we have way too many herbs that help soothe bug bites despite never getting any bugs. A bit ironic how nature grows bug bite curing plants in the one place you'd never see any. Borage of any type could help and maybe some broom."
Mistyveil found herself constantly annoyed by the absolute amount of different herbs she possessed that all cured either stomach aches or bug bites. If anyone had even the slightest stomach ache she was never afraid of running out of mint or thyme or rosemary. The list could go on. But WinterClan did have one herb that most clans starved for and that was catmint. She didn't share this knowledge until a medicine cat seemed interested in wanting to help aid her long term. She didn't have many herbs, but catmint was one of the only herbs to cure whitecough and greencough. However she couldn't get a read on Littlebird yet and decided not to try and bribe her with this information just yet.
"mmm" she mused, realizing that the other cat believed that their medicine cat had passed. Part of her wanted to correct the misconception, yet she held her tongue. Sometimes it was better to allow other to believe as they wished.
The lack of herbs in WinterClan did not surprise her. She had grown up there, and seen for herself the struggles the medicine cat of WinterClan faced. She herself had almost died as a kit, after falling into the swallowing river. It was only through pure luck that he father had managed to secure a medicine cat with the knwoledge and means to save her. It had taken a lot of trading to find the herbs they had needed.
At the time she had been a kit and not interested in herbs, but as she began to learn her new role as the priestess promised the knowledge that she had picked up during her time in WinterClan would come in handy during these negotiations. She chuckled slightly "Yes I remember how scarce herbs are in WinterClan. It must be very difficult to do our duty as their medicine cat" she paused, careful not to make any promises "and if I am remembering this correctly, as scarce as herbs are in the mountains you do have one herb that may be of use to us. While we are able to obtain catmint on our own, it is rather inconvenient. Perhaps I could convince Foxstar to make a trade for such a herb"
Her and Foxstar had begun their preperations for winter, and catmint had been a topic of discussion. It was always difficult to obtain enough of it to treat the clan, for there were very few places to collect this herb. She could almost smell the herb, knowing that it had been plentiful in her mountain home.
WinterClan was more likely to get green cough or white cough given the cold, but it was also during this time that she guessed they would be warring with other clans. After all WinterClan could withstand the cold, it would be the perfect time to attempt to grab hold of more mountainous landscapes. Especially given FallClan's literal fall. Whatever sickness they had, she'd rather be able to cure everything else with the exception of green and white cough than only being able to help one kind of plague sickness.
Barrenfrost's eyes seemed to glaze over, this was it. He was dying... Dying of boredom. All this medicine cat talk that he had no idea what they were talking about. They may as well have been talking mouse...
Littlebird was slightly surprised that Mistyveil did not put up more a fight about the catmint. She had vague memories of her father talking about catmint as a precious resource that was not to be given out lightly. Perhaps Mistyveil was more desperate than she first thought.
"I will speak to Foxstar about this arrangement, although I'm sure she will agree. Do you have an immediate need for these herbs?" she questioned. She shouldn't care what was going on in WinterClan, but part of her was curious. It was unusual for a medicine cat to travel this far in search of herbs, so she wandered if something bad was going on. Her heart beat a little bit faster, wondering if Leatherstar was alright.
"No, my job is to stop accidents before they happen. If a cat gets scratch, they don't get an infection cause I already have the herb and so on," Mistyveil replied curtly, "Just as a mother feeds their kits before they cry for milk and teaches a kit to entertain themselves before they get bored. Medicine cats have to be the mother of the clan, that's why they can't have kits after all."
"You literally looked at someones scrape and told them to put some dirt on it. And you have your own kits, like what are you talking about?" Barrenfrost groaned before trudging up to Littlebird, "Listen, sister," He said, her name a slow melody on his tongue, "Let's not drag this out. Talk to Foxstar, we'll come back with the catmint inferring you want it and we'll get our side of the deal. We want the freshest bundles of herbs that don't have properties we already have and we won't accept anything less."
