** The sun sunk through Sunflowerkit's thick pelt, warming him to his very core. A deep, long purr rumbled throughout his body, sounding his contentedness. Few clouds littered the sky, but the ones that did were big and fluffy and Sunflowerkit had the slight urge to lay upon them and never move again. He was going to be apprenticed any day now and wanted to relax as much as he could before training started. The soft-furred tom twisted onto his belly, the ground surprisingly soft beneath him, and stretched. His eyelids felt heavy and he closed them, drifting off into something akin to sleeping but not quite. A peaceful doze. The birds sounded far above, a sweet song to the breeze, a lullaby just for him.

"Hey, you! Whatcha doin'?" A voice piped up nearby and Giantkit lumbered over to the tom. The long-legged kit was also about to be an apprentice and had just awoken from a nap. Now her paws were full of energy! The she-cat's bright eyes blinked against the sunlight as she peered over at Sunflowerkit's form. From what she could tell, he hadn't fallen asleep completely yet. She had actually assumed he was awake and started to feel bad for disturbing his rest. "Uh, sorry if I woke you up."
Startled by the sudden voice, Sunflowerkit jerked his head up. "Wha--?" He met the green eyes of Giantkit, someone he's never really talked to. He rolled onto his belly, shaking his head to rid himself of his sleepiness. Another terrible night last night, he hadn't fallen asleep until almost dawn. "Oh, hi Giantkit." He set his gaze onto his paws, wrapping his tail protectively around himself. "I--uh--what are you doing today?" He tried. No, that's stupid. Who cares what she's up to today? "How...how was your day?" He offered. He raised his gaze to look her in the face as he was talking to her, the polite thing to do. "I was just catching up on some sleep, y'know." He yawned, sitting up and flattening the fur on his tail.

"I'm really sorry I woke you up." Giantkit meowed sheepishly then brightened up. "I was just napping a moment ago, but now I'm wide awake." She started with a whisk of her long tail. "I was hoping you might be able to play with me? My siblings are still sleeping." Honestly, it was surprising to see the tall kit awake and not the other way around. She loved her nap times probably more than any other kit in the mountains.
“No, no, it’s okay!” Sunflowerkit stretched and got to his paws. He needed to cut down on the napping anyway, no way could he be a good apprentice if all he did was asleep. “I’d love to play. What did you have in mind?” The calico tom tan his raspy tongue through his thick fur, taking out any tangles and smoothing it out. Sunflowerkit glanced to the sky, ocean blue, the sun a blinding white circle. “I’m good with anything.”

Giantkit's eyes lit up as he agreed to play with her. There were so many games they could play on a day like this! Her mind fought to single in on one. She finally gave him a bright smile and pointed with her tail to the elder's den. "We can see if Endlessthunder will let us play cat and mouse with his tail?" She purred. Usually the old grey tom didn't mind if she came and played, so hopefully he would let them.
Sunflowerkit purred. “Okay! I’d love to.” The small tom skipped ahead. “You’re uh... Giantkit, right?” He flicked his tail, worried he got her name wrong. He was bad at remembering them, no matter how hard he tried.

"Yes, that is my name!" She purred in response, impressed that he had remembered it. "And you're Sunflowerkit! I'm really good with names so if you ever need to know one then let me know." She puffed out her chest slightly in pride at her words. "I'm really bad at staying awake, though. That is what my sister, Briarkit, always says."
Sunflowerkit laughed lightly. "Yeah, me too. But for some reason, I can't sleep at night all too well." He looked over his shoulder to Giantkit. "Maybe you could teach me." He joked. "Anyway, let's go see Endlessthunder. If you want to, at least?"

"Well, I can certainly try." She purred and then began to lead the way to the Elder's den. "Of course! You'll love him." She purred over her shoulder to the other kit. "He tells some amazing stories too."
Sunflowerkit followed behind Giantkit, his tail beginning to lift. He had always loved stories, both true ones and tall-tales, he found them interesting. "I can't wait, I love a good story."

"You love a good story, hm?" A voice called from inside the den. Two golden eyes peered at the kits with amusement. "Come on in." A raspy voice purred. Giantkit grinned back at her new friend and gave a nod, signaling that it was okay. She trotted in with her ears and tail high and let out a purr. "Good afternoon, Endlessthunder."
Sunflowerkit startled slightly at Endlessthunder's voice, not expecting to hear him just yet. The calico tom followed Giantkit in wordlessly, a little comforted by the elder's den. "Good afternoon, sir." He spoke politely and sat down in front of the old tom. "I do like stories, I'm sure you have good ones to share." He shifted his paws and curled his thick tail around them, leaning forward slightly.

“I do.” Endlessthunder purred, wrapping his own tail around his body. He was glad for the warmth that was returning to the lands, but he still found the den a bit chilly sometimes. “And what is your name? I will gladly share my stories with you.”
Sunflowerkit moved closer to the elder, his ears pricked in interest. "I'm Sunflowerkit. I'm going to become an apprentice very soon, any day now." The smallest knot of anxiety formed in his belly, making his smile falter. Just for a second, he worried he couldn't become an apprentice. Maybe he wasn't good enough. He wiped those thoughts from his mind. "Do you have stories of evil foxes? Or badgers? Or fighting other clans?" He laughed, cheerfully at first, but it soon turned into one of nervousness. "Sorry, I'm rambling." He wrapped his tail around his paws.

Giantkit felt a wave of sympathy for her new friend and scooted closer to him for comfort. "Yeah. Those sound interesting to hear!" She purred.
Endlessthunder gave them both a warm smile before nodding. "Of course. Congratulations on becoming an apprentice soon. Those will be some of the best days of your life." He started with a twitch of his whiskers. He could sense their nervousness and decided he had the perfect story to tell them. "Let me tell you about when my best friend and I battled two badgers when we were apprentices." He purred.
Sunflowerkit gaped at Endlessthunder. "Two badgers? Aren't they big? And scary? And dangerous? Yes! I wanna hear, oh, please tell me!" He scooted in as close as he could to Endlessthunder without invading his personal space and leaned forward, intent on listening. Two badgers when they were apprentices! He wished he could be that good, but Sunflowerkit knew he would never, ever be able to do that. He gave Endlessthunder a smile, more respect blooming for the elder.
(Sunflower has been promoted to apprentice, so should we maybe time skip a bit? If you want to finish the story with Endlessthunder, that's fine, or we could start a new rp if you really want.)

(I don't mind time skipping c: Giantkit is an apprentice now too!)

Giantpaw let out a yawn as she rose from her nap. Her green eyes blinked against the sunlight a few times before she padded out of the apprentices den. With luck, she would be able to find Sunflowerpaw and they could go on an adventure.
Sunflowerpaw yawned. His eyes felt heavy and his paws felt clumsy as he crawled out of his nest. He had slept for only a bit last night, and between those moments of scrambled dreaming he had been staring, anxiously, into the dark. He saw Giantpaw, a new apprentice just like him, exit the den. The small tom followed suit, but paused just before leaving. Would she want to talk with him again? Maybe now that she was an apprentice she didn't want to be his friend. He kneaded the ground with his paws and decided to let her come to him, just in case his presence wasn't wanted. He continued out of the apprentice's den, still barely used to it, and wandered into the clearing.

Luck was clearly on her side that day. Her eyes brightened as she saw the apprentice exit the den after her. For a moment, she hesitated. What if she wasn't cool anymore? What if he didn't want to be her friend? Deciding to see for her self, she padded up to the tom. "Sunflowerpaw! Hey!" She purred in greeting. There was a little bounce in her step as she circled around him a few times. "Can you believe we are apprentices now?"
