Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Kolya's mostly blind eyes blinked as he stood in front of the Haunted Brook. Cats tended to avoid this place like the plague, and he supposed he couldn't blame them. After all, it had been rumored to ruin the sanity of more than a cat or two. Yet, it was a place that he found peace, one of the few places he found peace. Despite everything, it felt like a safe space for him, which was particularly important right now. After all, he was still grieving. He had been out of sorts since his mother's death, and he was afraid he'd only continue to be. It was hard, just when he found out who she was, it seemed, she was taken from him. And for what?
William stepped softly on the moss-covered bank. While he did not hear his own footsteps over the bubbling of the brook, he imaged Kolya might have better hearing than he did. So he cast his green eyes over the Curate. He knew the tom was related to the last Tsar, though he had been frequently gone during that reign so specific details were forgotten. Unsure how to console the tom he settled for comfortable silence. A serious loss had not occurred in his life yet, the worst to happen to him was a broken heart. Even then William had known it was not going to go anywhere. The clear water with the occasional bubble captivated him, each disruption in the current had to relate to some rock or other debris. Now he just had to connect each spot and the water almost seemed to lull him into a trance.
"William, right?" he meowed, although his voice wasn't sure. That was one thing about being mostly blind; it made it hard to tell exactly who the cats around him were. The BrookClan scent, after all, was particular. "I'd be careful staying here too long," he meowed after a moment. "Loki doesn't like that I come out here so often." He half smiled at his own reference to his sister, although the smile didn't reach his eyes. He hadn't had a smile that reached his eyes in a long time, it felt. "The lore of this place is so strong." When he was a kitten, a she-cat had drown herself in the river, and he was sure she wasn't the only one lost to the waves. After all, they were hypnotic, and if you listened quite closely, the brook seemed to speak.
"Yes, it's William. I have heard the rumors though I have a hard time believing things without proof." At Kolya's words, he put together who the tom was exactly, Loki's brother. Perhaps one day his dismissive nature of lore would endanger him but for the moment it was nothing more than a ghost story to keep kits away from the slippy rocks. He could see the reasoning behind the tales for the noise of the water could be interpreted as voices, but it was just the same as how the wind can sound like cries. "Is she rather protective of you?" William spoke to the other tom, perhaps sensing that something was bothering him. He was interested in what it was but was not willing to ask outright, it wasn't polite manners. He wasn't sure how Loki's reign was going to go and decided to avoid anything that could be thought of as treason. He wasn't really up for being executed.
"That's probably wise of you," the Curate responded. Kolya was different than him, it seemed. He had unquestionable faith, even to ideas and concepts that weren't concrete in front of him. Many suggested that that was one of his greatest flaws. Others thought it was what made him strong, the fact he didn't need to see to believe. His tail flicked back and forth for a moment as he considered the idea that maybe the brook wasn't haunted. He wasn't sure that he had ever heard the voices too strongly himself, but he didn't feel alone next to the water. Was that reason enough to believe?
When William asked his next question, the mostly-blind tom's lips twitched up. "You could say that," he meowed, tone slightly amused. Since they were little, Loki had been the one who was family-oriented. She would protect him until the death. Sometimes, that felt suffocating, like he was an imposition that she just dealt with. Other times, it was the only thing that kept him around. "She's always been the kind of girl who is protective over what she loves, especially if she thinks they need to be protected. Unfortunately, my eyesight leaves me a bit... vulnerable."
