*** The purr that rumbled in Beetuft’s throat was the first sound of the day to her. She felt the urge to stretch, but the three little bodies beside her, all snuggled up and warm, made her only shift her paws slightly. Why disturb them now? She yawned instead, wrapping her fluffy orange tail around them. Nowadays, she had taken to actually cleaning out her pelt of any sticks or leaves, so the kits wouldn’t be poked or prodded. She wasn’t usually the first one out of the nest, she liked to wait until the kits were up first and would usually fall back asleep, but today she couldn’t seem to. The sun shone so brightly in her eyes and she felt so awake. She huffed and rested her head on the edge of the nest, examining her snowy paws that hung just in front of her nose. She had to be patient, even if her muscles were itching to get up and stretch and to talk to someone. But, it seemed those sleeping kits were calling to her somehow. She didn’t want to leave them, and they were warm against her pelt. Like little sunshines. She could wait just a little bit longer.

The blonde head of Daggerjuggler peeked through the nursery entrance as he glanced around for Beetuft and the three little bundles of fur around her. Like with his older kits, Angelpaw, Galaxypaw, Desertpaw, and Ghostpaw, he intended to take care of them and be there for them when they needed him, Beetuft included. Even if they were not mates, they were linked through the children they shared and both cared about and Daggerjuggler smiled as his green eyes found them. "Morning. Are you hungry?" He asked her politely with a smile, speaking in a low tone so as to not wake the sleeping kits.
Beetuft lifted her head as Daggerjuggler entered the nursery. She purred. Daggerjuggler was a nice tom, and though they weren't in anything romantic, she knew he was a great dad for the kits. She looked back down at them. Still asleep. Their pelts mixed together as their chests rose and fell. Beetuft's ears twitched at his question, and as if prompted, her stomach rolled a little. "I little, yeah!" She kept her voice a whisper, soft like a breeze. Her tail waved slightly, somewhat from contentedness and impatience for the kits to wake up. "How was your sleep? I slept just about as well as these kits here. Now that I'm up, all I want to do is go for a walk but I don't want to wake them by moving."
Speckledkit stirred at the sound of their parents talking. He opened his green eyes and peered up at Daggerjuggler, they were large and round. I;m hungry! he thought, silently answering his father's question. He let out a yawn, revealing sharp white teeth, then buried his nose into his mother and started nursing.
Feeling one of her kits stir beside her, Beetuft saw the fluffy coat of Speckledkit. She smiled down at him as he started nursing, somewhat worried they were talking too loud. Sure, she kind of wanted them to wake up, but these kits needed their sleep. "Goodmorning, Speckledkit. Were we too loud?" She bent down and rasped her tongue across his tiny body a couple times to smooth out his pelt.
"Sorry about that, dear." She purred, nestling herself around the other sleeping kits. "Your brother and sister should be waking up real soon." Beetuft rested her head on her paws. "I wonder how you kits can sleep in so late, but I can't blame you. When you're an apprentice you'll be getting up at dawn, no excuses. That's what I did, though I always woke up early. But, you get used to it, at least, I did, and there's a wonder in watching the sunrise." She leaned over and nuzzled his head with her nose before pulling back. "But apprenticeship for you isn't for a while."
"Do we have to be apprentices?" he asked, tilting his head. "I don't want to be up that early. I like sleeping" he purred, rolling onto his back and sinking further into the crest of his mother's belly.
"Of course you have to be an apprentice! If you stayed a kit forever, you would never be able to go outside of camp, or go to gatherings, or hunt." Beetuft explained. "But, you still have a long time. You can sleep as long as you want as a kit. But I wouldn't sleep all day, because then who would I play with?"
Beetuft looked up, making exaggerated ‘hm’ sounds as if she were thinking. “I guess I do. But i’d miss you. And if you slept all the time would you eat in your sleep?”
“I’m sure you could, you are one of the smartest little toms I know.” Beetuft shifted slightly, an itch erupting in her back. She bent her head back and yanked a leaf from her pelt, the thing that had been causing some mild discomfort. It was somewhat tangled, as she was forgetting to groom every day now. “Yknow, I always have these little leaves stuck in my pelt and I don’t know where they come from. I don’t even feel them most of the time.” Beetuft places the leaf in front of her. She batted at it slightly with her paws, purring. She always felt a young energy in the nursery, one that reminded her of her kithood and made her playful. She picked up the leaf, round and slightly crinkled, and placed it on Specklekit’s head, watching it fall to his paws.
Speckledkit giggled when his mom placed the leaf on his head and it landed in his paws. He tossed it into the air then began batting at it. He jumped up from his cozy spot and began tossing the leaf around. This was fun! He batted it over to Beetuft and wriggled his bottom in the air.
Beetuft wondered what he would look like, standing y’all, about to get his warrior name, and wondered too just what it would be. “Maybe you’ll be named after me! Speckledtuft. But your warrior name is up to Ravenstar.” She paused, reminiscing about when she got her own name. “I remember when I got my name. I thought the suffix ‘tuft’ was silly, but now I understand why it was chosen. My crazy, fluffy pelt! I’m sure you’ll love your name.”
"Well, I love your name, mama! I would love for my name to end in 'tuft' too! But I will be okay with whatever Ravenstar gives me!" he chirped, sitting down and flicking his tiny tail.
"Your name will be your own, an amazing name for an amazing little tom. Nobody would have your name, it's unique." Beetuft explained. She looked down at the kits still asleep beside her, wondering when they would wake up so she could stretch. Her tail flicked impatiently. She wondered if she should just carefully remove herself, but Lotuskit and Cloudykit looked so warm and snug, so she decided against it. Beetuft kneaded the moss with her claws, enjoying the soft, squishy sensation. "I wouldn't think too far ahead just yet, you still want to enjoy being a kit. I always enjoyed the moment I was in, the past already went and the future is just another moment." The fluffy white and ginger she-cat licked her paw and ran it behind her ear, twitching it when she was done.
Speckledkit listened intently to what his mother told him, gazing at her in admiration and engraving her words of wisdom into his tiny mind. However, his attention span didn't last long before he spotted a beetle crawling over the nests. "Ew! What is that!" he squeaked, poking at the little black bug.
