Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. Sasha slipped from the voiny den and let his sharp golden eyes shaded with amber scan the clearing. Looking for one cat in particular. Now that Rune was mentoring his nephew, he thought perhaps he could use that as en excuse to talk to the other again. Not sure quite yet how he felt about the other he knew enough to know he enjoyed the others company enough that he preferred it over others. This coming from a tom who often preferred his own company over anything else, so Sasha figured this must mean something.
It was something he wanted to explore, tired of never taking initiative. He wasn't young enough anymore to waste opportunities such as these.
The white tom hadn't quite gotten used to his new duties yet; while he hadn't been boyar and tsar long, he continued to feel a duty – some would call it an obligation – to the well-being and future of the Monarchy. He often wondered if he'd made the right decision; while one side of himself screamed that it was meant to be, Tasman would have had it no other way, another side of himself wondered if the young Loki E'clair was ready. She was only a kadet...
Yet it was already decided and he had no other choice than to sit back and watch as her psyche unraveled. Already she'd hosted her first trial. Part of him was overwhelmingly thankful the high priest had only been exiled. Would she have lasted, knowing that there was blood on her paws?
It was a great weight upon his heart, but like always he maintained a smile and was ever the hero for the common ranks beneath the royals. Despite being a Dvoryane – an honorary title for his work with the E'clairs and his short time on the throne – he considered himself to be like any other. His blood, after all, did not run blue, but rather a completely different shade. A purple, probably, until exposed to the oxygen.
Thus, he continued to perform his self-given duties. Including making his rounds. Which was what he was doing now. Padding through the labyrinth of trails that made up BrookClan's camp, he tossed a smile here, a greeting there, happiness filling him with each grateful nod and relieved glance. Often he wondered if they expected the worst; particularly under the young E'clair's rule. Another stab of disappointment shot through him but he shrugged it off.
Pale green eyes locking on a familiar form, he felt a tightness constrict his heart, though it wasn't unwelcome. Butterflies swarmed in his belly and he resisted the urge to grin. He didn't know much about the Rainvieg member, but there was something about him... Something that felt right. He just didn't know what that meant yet.
"Sasha," he greeted, padding over with a small smile, "we meet again. Though under much better circumstances, I admit." The first time they'd encountered each other he'd been running for his life from a mutt; that was an interesting experience for the both of them, undoubtedly.
"Rune." He returned, looking the other up and down, taking him in; he wasn't sure what he was looking for but whatever it was he didn't find it. Instead he found a tom doing a remarkable job at holding himself together when it seemed he would prefer to unravel. Sasha knew the look he was carrying, he himself had often carried it when he had left Anastasia behind to bring Brookclan under the monarchies reign. Only to learn that later she had suffered an assassination attempt from their own brother. He had reconciled that heavy weight by knowing that was often the way the monarchy was. Nothing stayed sacred for long and even the deepest bonds were able to be unraveled by the pressures of the throne.
"Much better circumstances indeed." The slim black tom purred, tilting his head and humming lightly. Simply enjoying the quiet moment he had the others company and attention for a moment. "You still seem just as busy as ever though." He pointed out lightly, playful light coming into his eye as he teased, "unless your not busy and simply avoiding me and that's why it's been such a trial for me to track you down."
The normally lazy and reserved tom seemed to have come alight with Rune's arrival to him, a difference from their first meeting. But Sasha had had time to reflect and realize he did enjoy Rune's presence. Even if he found his approach to life odd at times.
The white tom blinked in surprise, inwardly shocked by the sudden personality change. When they'd first met, the tom seemed... well, admittedly uninterested. He would drawl his words, he wasn't exactly forthcoming with information, and despite the energy that Rune tried to exude, it seemed that whatever he was putting down, Sasha wasn't picking up. It seemed that it was the opposite on this day though, which threw him for a loop. That isn't to say it isn't welcome, he thought to himself as he studied him and listened to his words, blushing slightly at the last comment, but what changed? "Ah, well... I'm sorry about that. It seems when I was boyar, I had less to do than I do now that I'm a lower rank..." He laughed, scratching behind his ear. "I wouldn't avoid you. I wanted to come see you, but, I didn't think I was welcome."
He winced inwardly. Way to play it cool. He padded forward, hoping the other would fall in step with him and they could continue his rounds. "Um. Have you been busy? I can imagine the kits have probably kept you thoroughly entertained."
"My kits all already almost groan, I barley need to supervise them at all now." He responded with a slight shrug, pushing forward and padding besides the other. "Though they have always been rather responsible in truth." He hummed with a slight self-deprecating chuckle as if that trait of theirs was due to a failing of his own. Though one might argue such a belief was truth. "And of-course you're busier now than you were when you were a higher rank," he chuckled. "You can't delegate such tasks to others now and have to do them on your own. The hardships of our lower ranks."
He hoped Rune could tell he was trying. Sasha was not the most skilled at conversation, preferring to laze about and listen but for Rune he was truly hoping to keep the other close to him. No more running from this. Suddenly the slim black tom was afraid of loosing Rune; he had almost forgotten what it was like to hold a fear such as this.
Rune chuckled, feeling heat prickle on the back of his neck. Delegate to others... He thought to himself darkly. Had he ever done that? Perhaps that was part of why he was so stressed as boyar and tsar. Why he was so happy to give it up so quickly, even to a girl who wasn't ready to take on the responsibility. He always took everything upon himself; believing that it was best he do things alone rather than worry or stress others.
He found himself studying the male across from him, though, green eyes appreciative. There was a significant difference in the tom's attitude; as if he was a completely new person. It had him curious and confused, but it was also refreshing. As if Sasha had been given an energy boost. A voice at the back of his mind wondered if it was because of someone rather than something but that thought was too painful to entertain for long.
The white tom wasn't often a jealous soul, but... for some reason, that thought grated on his nerves and made him sick to his stomach. He wouldn't be surprised, though; Sasha was attractive and despite what the other believed, quite a catch. He was certain there were plenty of suitors falling at his feet.
"That's a point." He chuckled, trying to shake off the darkness that was threatening to settle over his mind. He bit his lip. Would it be too forward if- Too late, he was already doing it. "Would you like to go on an adventure?" He smirked a bit.
"If that adventure included mischief than I'd love to go." Sasha purred, though truthfully he wished for mischief more for the other than himself. He hoped it would help make the other find it more engaging and remember their trip in a better light. Nervous about going on an adventure with the other just for him to find Sasha boring or for the to fall into awkward silences. "It'll be like when we first met and I found you on your ill-fated adventure."
Rune's eyebrows raised high upon his forehead, though he kept his questions to himself. He was getting good at that; he only spoke his mind when he felt it was of the utmost importance to the conversation. It was a feat he was proud of, though it often left him with a sense of dissatisfaction; like he was trying to lock a part of himself that made him who he was. Without his control, he found himself blurting: "Am I annoying?"
He bit his lips to keep himself from spewing any more nonsense, wanting to brain himself on the nearest tree. He shook his head. "Sorry, don't answer that." He tried to think back on the tom's earlier comment. Adventure, yes... "Ah, yeah," he laughed awkwardly, "hopefully things don't end up the same way they did last time though." He winced. "I'm fairly convinced that dog had tried to grab a piece of my hind. Thankfully you were there in time." He smiled.
