Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Midnitghtcomet was getting old. He'd lived many moons before his first litter had been born, and now was the father to many more. Somedays he couldn't keep up with them all, or even remember what their names were. It was especially hard as of late because his grandfather had passed. Eclipse had been the head of their family, their patron, now the task fell on to his shoulders. It aged a cat. He was lucky to have such a lovely mate to help him but she couldn't do it all either. She had the kits to care for that were too young to handle on their own, while he had his own duties as a voiny of BrookClan and head of the Eclipse Family.
Midnightcomet was currently out hunting for his family. While that task fell on his children that were apprentice age and older as well, he always felt it was his job to provide as much as he could as their father and head of family. Sunrisepaw could be seen only meters away buring her latest catch. Pride swam through him at seeing his daughter becoming a successful warrior.
Rune couldn't understand the weight placed upon Midnightcomet's shoulders; he hadn't faced the same struggles throughout life. He was still young, though undoubtedly an adult. He had yet to take a mate or have children. It proved challenging for him; not only the aspect of having children, as his preferences would limit his opportunities marginally, but finding someone to love. He always doubted himself. Did they like him in that way? Were they using him for his position? He was boyar at one time, hand selected by Tasman E'clair until her untimely demise. While it had caused a ripple effect in the gossip chain when he was promoted, he'd found that the Monarchy had quickly accepted him – that is, until he'd promoted the previous tsar's primary heir, Loki E'clair, to the throne. The black she-cat was still only kadet age and yet thrust into such a political position. Many doubted him for his decision and wondered if he'd finally lost what marbles he had left. And now that he was a Dvoryane... it was yet another limitation when it came to the dating pool. There weren't many who, after his short but significant track record, would want anything to do with him. Romantically, that is.
Which is why he often found himself spending what time he could outside of camp. Ever since the high priest's trial – and subsequent punishment – he'd opted for spending more and more time away from the barely organized chaos. He particularly tried to avoid Loki E'clair. The young kadet looked up to him, but she'd already made so many mistakes in her young career as Tsar... He feared the worst for her.
Coming to a slow from his earlier brisk trot through the territory at the sight of the older voiny and his daughter, he smiled a bit. "Midnightcomet," he greeted, joining them in the clearing. "How are things?"
(Just a heads cus based on the way I was reading it sounds like you're looking for a mate and Midnightcomet has one. He's just stressed cus his grandfather who raised him recently past away and now he's got a bunch of kits to care for that are his adoptive children and he's panicking. Sorry, if I worded things that made it seem otherwise. But we can do something with Sunrisepaw if you want?)
Midnightcomet hadn't heard the other cat approach and was even more surprised to hear him speak. "Oh. I've been..okay. How are you?" He took a seat, clearly between this and his own thoughts and grief, he wouldn't be getting any hunting done like planned. Besides Sunrisepaw had already moved on to her next catch meters away.
[ oh no, he has a plot already with blankslate’s Sasha x”D sorry if my wording made it come across like that x: i’d love to do something with Sunrisepaw tho! i have a couple of podaroks that’ll be kadets this upcoming AC ]
Rune kept his gaze on the kadet’s movements, amusement evident in his pale green stare. Sensing the difference in the tom’s tone, he glanced at him in concern. He hadn’t a position that could garner him the trust he once had, but he felt it remained his duty to maintain relationships with his clanmate and see to their emotional wellbeing. “I’ve been alright. Do you mind if I ask what’s troubling you?” He chuckled. “It’s pretty clear there’s something.”
(What about Daedalus? Though, I thought about asking (right before you replied the first time) Honey if we could something with Sunrisepaw and Finn. I wanted someone that would be sweet on her. But I'm also down for a poly with her. All the ones of those I've tried in the past have failed. Basically, I could see the three of them as a unit where no one messes with them but their sweet on each other, even though Finn doesn't like being treated like he's helpless, Sunrisepaw is adventurous and like the sun, and Daedalus is kind of mean like. they'd be kind of balanced that way. Sunrisepaw getting them to open up with each other and have fun, Daedalus by not letting anyone mess with Finn and Finn having someone to rely on. If your down for it we can ask Honey what she thinks. Also, I didn't see Rune on the BrookClan page but maybe I just missed him when I was looking through)
"No, no at all." Midnightcomet spared a glanced towards his daughter. He'd kept quiet as of late, a happy smile on his face. And yet, he knew he wasn't okay. Smallfire had asked him only days ao to let it all out but he hadn't truly been able to. He was a father first, so he couldn't let them see him cry, to be weak. They needed him in this time. "Eclipse has passed away, so the title falls to me now." Mosy had known his grandfather. The tom that had traveled across the lands, was one a member in a long dead tribe, that had stories that went on for moons, and had shown up one day with four kits with one dying at his paws. Really the old tom had been known for his stories, some had claimed them to wide tales, unable to be true. BUt Midnightcomet and his siblings had known better. Now he was the only one left. The black pelt tom had out lived them all. Somedays, he'd been sure that it would be Eclipse who did that, but he knew no cat could live forever.
[ honestly, i’d be down for a polyromance. c: my problem with them though has always been that one user ends up falling inactive in it and then the entire plot just falls apart... but we could try it out, definitely. i’m not opposed to testing the waters. also Rune isn’t on the page cuz when i removed him from Tsar and replaced him with Loki, I forgot to add him to dvoryane and then i’ve been lazy since, so thank you for reminding me! i’ll have him added today c; ]
Rune nodded sagely, the air around him swimming in sympathetic grief. “I’m sorry for your loss.” He smiled at him a bit. “How has she taken it?” He glanced down the path toward a quickly disappearing Sunshinepaw.
(I'll message Honey and see what she says and get back to you. I don't think she'd fall in active with it I'm fairly sure, but not positive, that she was part a poly relationship before with one of the leader, deputy, and a warrior but I could be wrong. I know someone was and it worked out really well cus It lasted for a while but I can't think of who or what clan it was in at the moment.)
"Thank you." Sunrisepaw, she was surprisingly taking it well. The apprentice had been there in Eclipse's dying moment all the way till the end and hadn't shed a tear, had even encouraged him that it was time. It was almost a blessing how well she'd taken it. "I can honestly say, she's taking it better than the rest of us. She was there until his last moment, his favorite great-granddaughter." With a sad smile at the memory, he turned his eyes towards the younger cat walking their way. "Even told him that she'd see him again, so he didn't have to worry about her. To go home to Rose, Sun, and Solar." Rose, his grandmother and Eclipse's mate. Sun, his mother. Solar, his great-aunt. The tom knew they were all waiting for Eclipse, just as he was sure that Starlightarrow, Twilightmoon, and Sunrise were right there next to them.
[ the only one that i can think of that was between a leader, deputy and warrior was the one in earth with vulpixkit, hinata and blankslate or lavellan ]
Rune hummed with a small smile, though inwardly he ached in sympathy for the young kadet. To be so mature already at her age... In times like this he wished the young could continue to enjoy life and have fun than face what darkness and danger they dud. But this was how their lives were led. “I’m glad she’s doing alright, though I hope she isn’t internalizing.” He frowned. “It can be far more destructive than one thinks.” He glanced at the voiny. “And you?”
(That's probably who I'm thinking of then. I haven't gotten a reply yet just a heads up)
"No, I don't believe she is. She took it all well, almost like she knew it needed or had to happen. She's been really supportive to all the others about it too." Midnightcomet nuzzled his daughter who'd made a quick jog to cover the last of the distance. "Hello, how was your hunt?" He'd chosen to ignore the tom's question, knowing he himself was not doing as well with his grandfather's death. The idea that the most stable part of his life was now gone was hard to handle, even more difficult to comprehend. Everything had fallen onto him now, and h wasn't sure how the old tom cat had done it all.
Sunrisepaw had seen the other cat approach but had chosen to finish her hunt before joining the two toms. With a smile as greeting and a nod of her head, "it was good. I've got three shrews buried and a bird back from when we first started that we'll need to collect on our way home." The she-cat purred at her father, hoping to smooth the wrinkles she'd seen increasing each day on his forehead with her comfort. She knew what they were from and yet, she could do nothing to help. "How are you Rune?"
(Um so I was looking at Blanket's characters cus I gonna plot with her and noticed that Daelaus is cousins with Finn so that may not work. Also haven't heard from Honey so idk)
[ sorry I took so long to reply! also that's alright c: maybe we can plot something else another time. ]
Rune observed the interaction with a small, warm smile and a knowing look in his gaze. He wasn't mouse brained; he'd seen the quick change in conversation and the way Midnightcomet's shoulders seemed to tense when the attention was brought back to him. It had concern building inside of him, though he kept his mouth shut. At least for that time. He purred at Sunshinepaw's ever positive disposition; she truly lived up to her name. "I'm very well, thank you. Do you and your father need any help returning to camp with your bounty?" His smile widened. "I'm free for the rest of the day."
"That would be great! Right, dad?" Sunrisepaw nudged the warrior, drawing his attention back to the present and away from his thoughts. Blinking quickly, Midnightcomet nodded, though he wasn't really sure what he was nodding too. "Hey, Rune? What was it like when you were an apprentice? I've heard stories from grandfather about his time during training and from father and Smallfire. I'm curious if it was any different for you."
Smiling back at her, feeling warmth build in his heart – whatever chill had descended upon the trio due to the previous conversation topic, it was melting away now – but found his expression frozen by her line of questioning. Deciding that he would try to respond in what way he could that would make sense to her young heart, he padded alongside her towards their stash. "Well... I didn't exactly train the way the rest of the Monarchy does. My upbringing was... different, to say the least." He glanced at her. Would she look at him differently if she knew? "I wasn't born in BrookClan, you see."
"Oh? Kind of like grandfather? He was trained in a tribe far, far away from here." Eclipse had taken her out a few times to hunt, showing her the techniques that differed from what could be learned within BrookClan. Sunrisepaw tip her head in interest, curious how his training had gone and how differently it was from her own. Midnightcomet nearly swatted his daughter in the ears, to ask such a question! Truly hadn't Smallfire and he raised them better than that? It could be considered rude to a cat to be asked such a personal question. But even he was a little curious. The tom didn't remember seeing the other BrookClan member until he was already a viony, meaning he hadn't been around when Midnihtcomet was an apprentice.
Rune chuckled lightly, despite the fact he was sweating bullets. “Well, in a way, yes. The big difference here though, Sunshinepaw, is that while your grandfather was apart of another group of felines before relocating to BrookClan, I wasn’t. I was a rogue.” He glanced at Midnightcomet in nervousness.
(Will you bump the one with Loki and Sunrisepaw? I've lost track of it.)
Midnightcomet would not discourage his daughter from seeking knowledge, especially since his own family did not originate from this clan. The tom nodded towards Rune, giving his approval for the knowledge, if that was what the other tom was seeking. "I'll go start collecting the prey and bringing it here." Sunrisepaw smiled at her father as he left, then turned her focus back on the other cat.
[ i went ahead and replied to it, sorry it took me so long! i've been struggling with muse for brook recently ]
Though he knew it was more than likely unnecessary, the older tom's silent blessing had his muscles relaxing and an easy smile worked its way onto his face when he noticed the eager expression in the kadet's eyes. "Well... What do you want to know exactly?" He wasn't exactly the easiest tom to extract information out of, even if he came across as open and friendly. His past was something he never focused on for long; but should they ask the right questions, he was willing and able to give what answers he could.
