News & Updates
11.06.2022 The site has been transformed into an archive. Thank you for all the memories here!
Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It is I, your favorite administrator, ian. You'll be hearing a lot more from me in the near future c:
I want to make this short and simple. I am in the process of revamping the rules for the site. A lot of them are awkwardly worded and clunky, and some aren't applicable, etc. It's been a while since they've gotten a revamp, and it's about time for them to get redone.
The admin team and I have compiled what we think needs to be changed about the rules. Each one of us has looked at each rule and commented individually. However, it felt wrong to just let such a big decision of what needs fixed be left to the administration. Before I rewrite all of the rules (which will be put up for a vote for you all to confirm or tell me to re-re-write if you don't like them), I want to ask you all what you think of what should be fixed.
I will take all of your opinions to heart when I rewrite.
So, does anyone have any suggestions to the rules?
Feel free to not use the format below to make your suggestions. It isn't necessary to use, it just might be helpful. Also, feel free to use this thread to discuss among yourselves the ideas presented.
RULES TO CHANGE:
A. reason / change B. reason / change C. reason / change D. reason / change
RULES TO DELETE:
A. reason B. reason
RULES TO ADD:
A. rule / reason B. rule / reason
Feel free to also have more than just that many changes or less than that many changes that was all pretty arbitrary.
The suggestion period will end on 4/27/2019.
best, ian

NAMES — i dunno if this is a valid rule change but i wanted to bring it up for possible discussion. the rule says that character names ‘should come from an object or emotion that occurs in nature‘ but I dunno how consistent that is anymore? maybe that’s just me not understanding what that really means though x”D
other than a bit of rephrasing so that they translate for proboards instead of wikifoundry, i don’t see any other issues or necessities c:
I think rules 3-6 can be condensed into one rule, titled 'Content Allowed on Classic' ; 'We Have a PG-13 Rating' or something like that - this can be debated, since it would be condensing the rules immensely and make a super long rule with several points.
I vote to delete rule 7 and 17, it can be condensed into rule 1.
I think we have a human roleplay section now, so rule 13 can be changed.
I just think there are a lot of rules. Not that that is a bad thing, or that I think we're being restricted (I love the rules and they are very specific. Not hard to understand and therefore hard to break.) I'm just worried new members won't read it all. I think a good rule amount is 7-10. Also, one thing I would suggest is having maybe a secret word in the rules that requires new members to message an administrator with it. It's an idea I'm stealing from an old site I used to be apart of, but it's something we could do to guarantee new members read them. Just my ideas of course! And you guys probably share my ideas or have already talked about it, so yeah.
1. AGE: This one has definitely been brought up in previous discussions. I believe it should stay the same even though we aren't on wikifoundry anymore. I think the rule to be 13 years or older to join should still be enforced. We still use some language on here and like Fearful's suggestion, we basically have a PG- 13 rating.
2. RATING: I wanted to bring this up too because of what Fearful suggested. I personally like putting up something that says we are PG-13 rating. Especially since most of us have grown up with the site and are above PG-13. I also agree with Fearful in combining some rules
3. HUMAN ROLEPLAY: That one can probably be deleted since we have a human role play section.
4. GOD MODING: I don't think this one is enforced very well. There have been many threads where I have seen a cat attack another character but the role player of the opponent chooses not to have any harm done to their cat even though the cat that attacked would have clearly done harm. Basically what I'm trying to say is that if you get in a fight with someone else's character, expect there to be wounds. No cat can come out of a fight with not even a scratch on them.
I don't have a rule addition, I'm just in agreement with Sinful's name comment. I think either it should be removed or better enforced. I would prefer it to be better enforced- it's odd to see cats like Icecreampaw. However, we should remove it if we don't want to enforce it.
I agree with Sunlight, I think it should be better enforced instead of changed. Warrior cats don't know what icecream is, unless it's a kittypet whom was named that by their twolegs, and even then they don't actually know what icecream is. Perhaps clarifying the rule would be better because it is pretty clear, but to new 13+ year olds, they may not understand.
Also I don't think the human roleplay rule should be deleted, but modified to say something that all WCC2 rules apply to that forum.
I also agree with Sunlight and Sinful about names. I get that some Kittypets might want to keep their names but if it is a name like Icecream, it shouldn't be kept when they join the clan. And the rule should be better enforced.
I don’t know if you’re referring to my cat Icecream or not (cause I was the only one who had a cat named Icecream), but my cat Icecream was named Ice. Her warrior name was Icecream because of her cream colored pelt. I thought it would be funny to poke fun at people who loved traditional names by making a warrior name that every roleplayer knows as a frozen treat while to the warrior cats it’s just a normal warrior name. I guess my name idea did its job if it’s bugging people though LOL
Anyways I just wanted to defend my characters warrior name since it is to warrior cat naming standards
I honestly didn’t even look through the pages, I understand your reasoning though! I think it would be weird to have a cat named like Icecreamdrip or Fudgepop or something. No offense meant, I think Ice + cream is fine
We didnt mean to offend you, Faith! I honestly never saw your character! I thought maybe it was one that one of the new members created and Sunlight was using it as an example! I totally understand what your goal was and now that you explained it, that was pretty clever! XD I guess I'm a little lame for not catching on so quickly! Lol! But now I feel kind of bad for bringing that name up! Although, its not just that name either! That was just an example! I have seen other people use names that just didnt fit in with the warrior cats and it probably should be enforced a bit more.
i think i mostly agree with everyone else here, especially what fear said about condesning some of the rules as to put them under like 1 general rule with specifics if need be, but lets be real here- we're pretty much all adults and have sorta grown up with the past drama, so i feel like we're all mature enough to know that certain subjects or discussions should be off-topic of just generally off the site(s) in general. save it for skype pms mayhaps?
as for the naming rule, i think that it should depend on the group and the characters history. i know in one of the newer arcs(i dont even really know anything past the 4th set but) theres a skyclan warrior named bellaleaf? if im correct she was a kittypet and kept the name bella as part of her warrior name? i think stuff like that makes sense- like what spotted brough up before; if a kittypet joins a clan or group and keeps either part of their original name or maybe the names meaning. my deputy was a kittypet named crystal and her warrior name is diamondheart just so its similar, bc tbh? the name i was gonna use for her, crystaldawn, i already used on a waterclan mc i had years ago. realistically or in the books cats might not know what a diamond is and call it a shining rock or maybe they know its some sort of crystal, but they obviously dont know what a diamond specifically is; however, this name is still, like faiths icecream, technically up to rule standards. i personally really really like natural sounding names more in general, but i feel like we can give some leeway into it. a name like diamondheart or dreamingbird is as natural and fits into warriors as much as spotted's larkwing or warriors own jayfeather. i think so, at least.
plus doesnt brookclan literally use last/house names as part of their society and hierarchy? and does anyone remember avalon everlasting or when rr was renegade republic? last names were very common among the old groups- especially with the staff. this definitely doesnt fit with our current name rule or even within warriors canon/lore in general, yet we have it and accept it anyway. same with other names in revolutionary groups like my own aries and pisces in rr. in warriors they definitely have no knowledge of the zodiac or anything of the sort, yet those names can be/have been so common within them. if we "remember we are playing cats, they won't know what a car is" then like most if not all of the revolutionary groups populations(and even some of of the clans) will have to change their names, being that either planets or gods or other very manmade things are all common names. ik planets arent manmade but do cats really know our solar system? i mean in the books they call the sky and stars silverpelt rather than just the night sky. and would they really know the gods and heros of ancient mythology? and then the names we can chose from will be extremely limited and repeating. tbh traditional warrior names are already kinda hard to come up with as they are.
i believe the naming rule should just be changed so that you cant have a warrior name that is already in canon. i dont know about anyone else, but i literally go to the old illegal warrior name page so much to make sure the name im making isnt already canon and to even get some good ideas for other names- however i believe this does need to be updated some as we dont even have tribes anymore, so illegal tribe names are useless to us.
tldr: the naming rule is definitely outdated and kinda contradictory to some of our groups. make it so that its just for the illegal warrior names, and update that page/list
Specklepelt, I totally agree with everything you just said! Sometimes it takes another opinion to point some things out! I especially like what you said about the solar system and how its hard coming up with common warrior cat names that aren't canon or haven't already been taken. I personally try to stick to the traditional warrior cat names the best that I can. I have one cat named Topazkit(dawn) that I took from a litter but no cat really knows what Topaz is. Thats the only clan cat name that I have that doesn't truly fit with the whole traditional warrior cat names. However, I do have a cat named Driscal in Primal Instinct that I created and I seriously doubt that if cats could talk, they would have names like that but I thought it would be something different since he is not a clan cat. However, some times I like to pretend that maybe these cats are more evolved than cats in real life! Honestly, I've grown up with cats and they are not the smartest animals in the world XD But since this is a fictional role playing site, some times I talk myself into thinking that they are just more evolved. Evolution does happen. Some day, cats may rule the world! We don't know! If this site did have cats that were more evolved, it would make more sense. Maybe they don't know what the solar system is but perhaps they evolved to the point in actually naming it. They already have Silverpelt in the warrior cats, as Specklepelt mentioned. Whose to say they don't go more into detail?
Perhaps a kittypet "learned" about it from a twoleg and spread it to the clans. That sounds ridiculous but I remember back in the books, there was I believe a kittypet or loner that knew what a boat was. I can't quite remember which book it was or who said it but the warrior cats called it a water monster but then one of the other outsider cats said that the twolegs called it a boat. Maybe it could develop like that. But thats technically more for the administrators to discuss. We could make the characters more evolved but thats making it more and more fictional. I personally like the traditional names and I would like to keep the rule but Specklepelt's comment really made me think. It is pretty hard coming up with traditional names. Especially with how popular this site has gotten. More and more characters are being made and its getting harder to come up with names that aren't taken or aren't canon. Also, in one of the books, there was an eclipse and a loner named Sole predicted it and knew it would happen and he was totally calm about it. Cats wouldn't know what an eclipse was in real life. The books are fictional. They are just based on actual animals. And, there is also that rule about god moding which I agree with and should totally keep but there was also Lionblaze in the books that was literally a god and nothing could hurt him. He was invincible which was impossible but that what they decided to put in the books.
So I suppose what I'm trying to say is that we could do whatever we wanted. We can keep things they way they are or make the cats more evolved or fictional.
Well yeah but that was apart of the three that had special powers, like how the other brother could transport back into time through a stick.. lol. Maybe special characters like that could be apart of a plot but shouldn't be around afterwards, and with administrative permission. Also if you remember too Scourge took nine lives in one hit. There are some weird things in the book, and pretty graphic deaths, (i mean, let's not forget Hawwkfrost's death. shivers) but I think our site is just taking the idea of clans and using it. Doesn't mean we have to pull other inspiration from it. I think we should create a rule that is special to our site. I mean, even some of my characters don't align.
Allencatch (allen is a human name.) Antediluvian (ante; a stake put up by a player in poker and similar games before receiving cards. / diluvian/diluvial; relating to a flood or floods, especially the biblical Flood.) Arizonaraspberry (arizona is a human/state name.) Coulterspring & Fearfelicity (coulter/felicity isn't a real word. when googled it can be a last name of a human.)
Obviously these are unique names, and some of my favorite that I've made myself, but technically against the rules. It is just hard to enforce a rule like this especially with our Rev. groups that have literally whatever name you can think of. I think I've changed my opinion on better enforcing it, but I really have no idea what to suggest to rewrite it.
dont get me wrong! i love the planetary and mythological names. if i didnt i would have my little zodiac babies lol. i just think that we should revise? remove and replace it? idk what the right term would be but like..... just dont make ur cat named a canon name. the illegal warrior names should be the only thing governing our naming conventions i think
I agree with using just the illegal warriors names to dictate the names. Otherwise a lot of the names that are on the site now or previously wouldn’t be allowed. Phoenix, Noblechampion peanut, walnut, thyme, Devilhorns, Sunrisemosaic, Pluto, Siren, Jynxlaughter. Those are just a few I’ve seen or role played myself that would all basically not be allowed. There’s so many of us and have been so many cats in the past on the site it’s hard to say you can only use traditional names. I tried on the lastest litter of cats I made to do only that and it took me three days and all I came up with were the names and appearances. I mean yes some thing like Fudgepop wouldn’t be okay but I really think it’s up to the leaders of the clans/groups to say yes or no to a rper’s cat and if the name would work there. I mean how many of us actually refer to a car as a monster in role play? It’s basically the same principle how I see it. It’s a role play site. There’s gonna be fictional idealism. I don’t see the harm in allowing names like Quartzwhisper or Easter-rose. I think it just needs to be things that are kind of common sense you can explain or just that the leader/admin/ staff agree is allowed. Like if you’ve gotta problem or aren’t sure if that name would be allowed/okay then ask a leader/admin/staff member. I don’t see what’s so hard a bout that especially since we’ve basically been ignoring that rule for a while.
