Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It had been a few sunrises since the vigil for the fallen warriors. The day was at an end as the last rays of light were disappearing over the horizon. Echopaw was looking for one cat in particular, Smallspiral.
Smallspiral had her head resting on her paws, eyes blank and distant. The once friendly and cheerful she cat, who'd once been keen to explore everywhere was now lifeless. Stuck looking at the space where her brother wasn't.
She had just finally gotten her brother back from WinterClan! Only to lose him now? Forever? To StarClan? What if he hadn't gotten to StarClan? Though Burningstar had held the mass vigil, Thistlebriar's body had been unrecoverable. What if he hadn't made it?
Smallspiral let out a sigh turning her head away from the apprentice. "I'm not feeling like going to look at something right now." She said closing her eyes like if she couldn't see Echopaw, the apprentice would just cease to be in Smallspiral's presence.
Smallspiral huffed. If she didn't go, Echopaw would probably needle her anyways. And the apprentice was probably trying to help. So she let out a sigh and rose to her paws. "Fine, fine, show me what ever it is." She said waving her paw.
Echopaw frowned but was glad that Smallspiral agreed to come with her. She lead the way out of the temporary camp and followed the river. After a few moments of following the river, she halted and grabbed a branch full of berries. Ignoring any kind of curious looks from Smallspiral, she continued to walk until they arrived at the old camp. By the time they arrived, it was night and the stars were out shining brightly. "Before you turn away, I want you to have a look inside." she insisted. They had come so far and Echopaw wanted to show her the surprise.
She squeezed through the entrance and into the old camp. Flower petals made a path to the boulder where Smallspiral's brother laid at rest. Wisteria hung around the camp and gems were placed around the boulder. The moon lit up the gems, creating sparkles all around the camp. She set down the berries. "I know we already had a vigil but it took me a really long time to do this. I was working on it before the vigil because I felt like Thistlebriar needed a proper one...he...saved my life and its the least I can do...He was a true hero and deserves the best vigil I can come up with."
Smallspiral paused and stared at it all taking it in. It was so beautiful. Thistlebriar would've loved it. When they'd returned from WinterClan her brother had happily hoarded any nice things they happened to find. When newleaf started to slip in as they neared the end of leafbare, Thistlebriar had gone and collected a few bright green plants. Her brother gleeful at the colors.
He would've loved this, and she found herself feeling emotional. She stopped and let out the breath she was holding.
"It's lovely... after, after being held prisoner in WinterClan he would've loved this." She said softly moving hesitantly towards the boulder. Swallowing tightly knowing her brother's corpse lay beneath it, so she stopped and drew back, instead touching the edge of one of the wisteria blooms that made up the path. "This must've taken so much work." She murmured turning towards Echopaw.
Echopaw picked up the berry branch and carried it over to the boulder and set it down. "It did take a lot of work, but it was worth it. He deserved this, for what he did." she mewed softly, her own emotions escaping from her eyes. She began to mash up the berries until they became a paint. She dipped her paw into it and placed it on the boulder, leaving a paw print. Then she bowed her head, "I will never forget what he did for me and Skypaw. He gave his life so that we could live and for that, I will be the best Nightclan cat in history." She lifted her head and puffed out her chest.
Smallspiral was quiet for a long moment, then she stepped forwards. "I will hold you to that. He died so you both could live, I don't want you chained to his will.. He wouldn't want that, Thistlebriar was driven, but also a prankster, he knew how to have fun, and be driven. So you must not only strive to be great, but to live a full life..." She stepped forwards dipping her paw in the paint Echopaw had made and leaving a paw print of her own.
Smallspiral stepped away from the boulder quickly after setting a paw print. Even if this place had been changed to be a better resting place for her brother. It still rubbed her the wrong way. She didn't want to be near the boulder her brother was crushed under.
"See that you do... and thank you Echopaw, I do appreciate this..." Smallspiral said beginning to turn to pad away.
