Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
(Turbulentpaw, and Brightpaw are tasked with helping cats cope with the move to the temporary waterfall camp. Though they were able to treat the physical injuries that cats suffered, it's the ailments afflicting the mind, that are keeping a strong hold on cats. racer , brightleaf needed especially but all are welcome!)
Beetlepaw had been returning to the temporary camp at the waterfall, he'd been jumpy the whole time he'd been out. A small mouse held in his mouth. As he neared the temporary camp, he could hear the rumbling of the waterfall, his black paws shaking a little with nerves. He tried to straighten up tell himself it was fine. He hadn't gone far, and the clan had been at the waterfall a few days! Everything was fine!
Except his throat was tightening and his body was starting to shake. OR was it the ground? He couldn't tell, and then suddenly when he stepped he staggered and fell over.
"Oh no! The shaking must have returned!" He thought as his whole body stiffened up with fear, the mouse slipping out from limp jaws.
Duskwing had been keeping a close watch of her kits coming and going had spotted Beetlepaw's approach, and when he fell. Immediately she jumped to her paws. "Turbulentpaw! Brightpaw come quickly! Somethings happened to Beetlepaw!" She cried racing to her kits side. She didn't know why he'd suddenly collapsed, but after nearly losing Spiderpaw, and Beetlepaw's previous severe injuries at the jaws of those awful foxes. Duskwing was not going to risk anything terrible befalling her son again.
Hearing the she-cat's cries, Turbulentpaw pushed his way through the crowd of cats that were begining to gather. He took in the sight, glancing over the tom for any obvious injuries, but not seeing any he crouched down at his level "Beetlepaw, look at me. You need to breathe, you are having a panic attack. Breathe in....breathe out.... breathe in... breathe out" he kept his voice calm, but commanding as he proceeded to breathe with the apprentice.
This was one thing that his training hadn't covered thus far, and he wasn't for sure if he was handling it the right way. He knew that sometimes cats became so overwhelmed that it was like they were choking, but they were not. He remmebered that the most important thing was to get the paniced cats breathing again. Then he had some herbs that could with anxiety, but giving it to him now would only cause him to choke for real.
Beetlepaw continued to inhale rapidly, but at Turbulentpaw's voice he began to struggle to breathe with the medicine cat, his flanks heaving, his whole body shaking as he fought to breathe in and out with Turbulentpaw.
Duskwing stood anxiously shifting from paw to paw as she watched this go on. She shifted to Beetlepaw's other side and began to try and give her son gentle licks between the ears, trying to soothe him like she had when he was much much younger.
Echopaw rushed over and stood beside Duskwing, her light green eyes round with worry. Beetlepaw had saved her life during the earth quake and seeing him like this broke her heart. "Is he okay?" she wondered aloud, the tip of her kinked tail twitching.
"He will be alright. Go and get me some moss dipped in cool water"he replied to Echopaw, turning his attention back to Beetlepaw. He felt conflicted about what to do next, but to cool water tended to help soothe cats and clear their minds. "Good, your doing great Beetlepaw. Just keep breathing"
He nodded to the young cat's mother to continue, as he checked to make sure there was noting Beetlepaw could hurt himself on. "You are alright, your mother is here and so is Echopaw. You are just scared, just focus on your breathing and getting your heart to slow down"
Echopaw nodded and dashed away to get wet moss. She came along some moss growing near the waterfall and began clawing at it. That was a good thing about living by the waterfall. Lots of moss. She dipped it into the stream and brought it back, setting it down in front of Beetlepaw.
Turubulentpaw took the moss and gently sponged it on the back of the apprentice's neck and around hi face to help him calm down and come back to reality. He had used it before on cats that had passed out, and hoped that it would help with the panic attack as well
Beetlepaw finally began to calm down after the continued efforts from everyone, his breathing finally evened out and he started to relax. He looked up at everyone a bit bewildered. "Is... Is the earthquake over?" He rasped.
Duskwing let out a soft noise. "No, no darling there was no earthquake." She said sounding worried.
"Oh." Beetlepaw said quietly looking away, fur feeling hot with embarrassment and distress.
