Kaliko strode forward. The recently appointed Acecoop's cream, ash, gold fur shone in the sunlight. Brilliant golden eyes swept the territory, curiosity in their depths. She was not yet fully familiar with the territory. The sights and sounds peaked her interest and she began to make her way through the undergrowth. After being on a boat for so long, the fresh grass felt good under her paws. For a moment, she paused and just let them sink in to the springy stuff. Nature was much more exciting than steel and wood.
Her brother, a quiet but kind creature who preferred the company of plants and trees to living beings, had a rather different relationship with the Acecoop. They were close but at times he found himself wondering if, with her newly appointed position, she knew more than she let on. Especially pertaining to him. Which was his reasoning for being out here in the first place; originally he’d gone on a walk to clear his thoughts but when he picked up her familiar scent, he found himself following his nose to her location. Stopping in front of her, he smiled a bit. “Hey sis,” he murmured, “how’s it goin’?” He glanced around. “Herb picking again?”

Kaliko's slender ears pricked at the sound of pawsteps and she turned towards her brother with a soft smile. "Ah, Kana." She purred and touched his cheek with her nose. The honey-colored feline was aware of something hidden under his skin, but she had learned that all things would be revealed in time. Patience was a virtue, right? The Acecoop was known for being rather inquisitive, but patient like an eagle. Some wondered if there was a wolf under that mask of innocence. Truthfully, she sometimes wondered the same thing. "We are low on a few herbs thanks to the constant rain." She meowed in response, giving a little frown as she spoke. "I figured a bright and sunny day like today would be a wonderful time to gather up some more. What about you?"
He hummed in understanding, nodding his head and glancing around again. There was something about her all knowing gaze that set his pelt prickling and his tongue longing to spew forth a confession that he knew he could never take back. He clamped his teeth down upon it, just enough to still its frantic movement behind closed lips, and then glanced back at her. "Do you need any help? I'm not doin' anything too important..." In fact, he'd been doing nothing. He'd had no aim while on his walk through the territory; he figured he'd perhaps be productive and assist his sister rather than return home empty handed. It was always difficult coming up with an excuse.

Kaliko smiled gently at him, her eyes reflecting understanding. She knew he would not want to talk about what was troubling him now, but the time would come sooner or later. And if it didn't? Well, that was okay. She tried to convince herself that her brother keeping a secret from her wouldn't bother her. She would just have to live with it. "Oh, that would be great! I am tracking down tansy, coltsfoot, and goldenrod. Do you know what they look like?" She purred in response, flicking away the thoughts with a twitch of her whiskers.
Kana's once bright expression quickly drifted into a dazed frown as he gazed around himself. "Um..." He padded forward; left, right. He stopped and opened his maw, attempting to scent it. Surely it would have a pungent odor? Any of them? He frowned and sighed, slumping and plopping onto his rump. "I can't." He grinned at her sheepishly. "I guess that's one of the perks of being a professional?" He laughed. "Um... If you could give me an idea of what they look like, I could try to help." Though so far I'm doing a pretty awful job at it.

The creamy golden feline shook her head at her own daftness. "No, no. I forget that the herbs around here are different than from where we came from." When they were on the boat, the twolegs kept stashes of weird bottle things that rattled. She remembered sometimes a twoleg would give something white and chalky to one of the other sick cats and it would make them better. However, she hated the weird twoleg herbs and they always had strange side effects. Instead, she would go where the twolegs seemed to catch their prey and play with it before eating it and would take the herbs they had laying around there.
Ah, the memories.
The feeling of Kana's gaze brought her back to reality and she laughed. "Sorry, I got lost in thought again. Let's see... Tansy should be easy to find. It has these fuzzy yellow flowers that look like little balled-up kitten paws." She purred, holding up her paw and demonstrating. She sometimes had a strange way of describing things.
He had seen the faraway look in her eyes; the way her gaze seemed to cloud over and her jaw grew slack. He was familiar with the reaction, for he too experienced it. He wasn’t used to this new world; it was so different from their homeland. Not only the terrain, but the felines that inhabited it, and the night creatures that prowled the earth while they were sleeping. He blinked, broken from his own train of thought by her voice. He flushed a bit. This was dangerous, getting so lost inside their heads in the middle of the woods; what if something happened? Neither one of them would be prepared for an ambush.
“Right, right...” a smile pulled across his lips despite himself at her explanation. Ever the imaginative. “Like bee butts?” He countered, small smile turning into a crooked grin as he shot a look at her before focusing on the task at hand. Small, fuzzy flowers... Small, fuzzy flowers...

Kaliko’s eyes lit up and she gave him a bright, gleaming smile. “That’s right!!” She purred. Bee butts. She would have to remember that one. “This land is so strange and new. It has been hard to get used to.” She admitted with a flick of her tail.
“I know what you mean,” Kana sighed out as he continued his search. Soon after he found the familiar yellow flowers and he snatched a couple up daintily by the stem. “These?” He asked around the mouthful, eyes hopeful he hadn’t failed.
