Barrenfrost was curled up in his nest, his snow leopard like tail covering his nose, keeping his face warm. He felt the heat of his breath warm his entire body and as he dissolved into sleep he felt the volume in the air tune down to zero. He lifted his face, expecting snow to have flown in, littered, and trashed his cozy space, but instead he awoke in a deep black cave and as he walked he was greeted by the dark forest. His blue gaze turned to himself, he lifted a paw, almost trembling with rage, but it soon soothed as he found himself in a solid form. No inky black sludge or twitching shadows formed his body like the stories he heard of Dark Forest cats becoming. He slid his head upright, poised like the God he believed himself to be. If he wasn't dead, then he was meeting someone who was. However he couldn't consider who he knew or anyone who wanted to know him who was from the Dark Forest so he sat his silvery snow leopard pelt and mountainous form onto the dark grass awaiting for the stranger in the depths of the night.

From the darkness that surrounded Barrenfrost, a single pair of golden eyes observed him from afar. It had been a long time since he had a visitor, although he often visited his daughter in her dreams. All the cats that came here seemed surprised to find their bodies in tact, perhaps due to the rumors that had spread throughout WinterClan. He listened for a moment, the sound of the other cat's breathing.... A welcome sound after many moons of deafening silence.
He rose to his full height, as his long fur whipped around his muscular frame. A large slash was still visible on his throat, though no blood fell from the wound now. It gaped open, his parting gift from the cat that he had once hoped would help him carry on his family name. His grey fur was now dull and unkempt, but his eyes... those golden eyes had lost none of their malice nor strength. If anything the dull grey coat only made those eyes seem even more menacing, a monster in the darkness
"I should have known you would seek me out one day" he gruff voice rumbled through the still night air
"What are you doing here father?" Barrenfrost asked almost like a kit.
He always believed Goldenstar would come back to WinterClan and take it from the weak spinned leader they currently had. Leatherfern had been fine as a warrior, but as a leader? They needed Goldenstar more than ever, they turned their backs on StarClan. They turned their backs on everything. Goldenstar would never have let that happen. Maybe his father wasn't his flresh, but he felt like he had Goldenstar's blood running in his veins. That he could take over WinterClan and return the honor his father had brought to WinterClan moons ago. Still, it was odd for such a noble leader to be in the Dark Forest. Maybe he had people to attend to here. His father could be generous when he had something to gain.

"A better question might be, why are you here"
Goldenstar walked forward until he was face to face with Barrenfrost, only a small space separating the two. While he was still taller than Barrenfrost, he no longer towered over him. Physically Barrenfrost had grown, yet when he spoke he still seemed like the same kit who had always admired him. He had the same look in his eyes, the look of utter devotion "Only those who's heart seek to see me are allowed to enter into this domain"
He did wonder what had spurred the young tom to seek him out. Perhaps he was unhappy with the changes that Leatherfern had been making within the clan. WinterClan was no longer the great clan they once were, now they were no more than an organized group of barbarians. The followed strange gods, abandoning the traditions that had been followed strictly for many generations. It was a disgrace to their ancestors, and something that he believed would ultimately lead WinterClan down a path of destruction.
His own daughter had abandoned WinterClan to it's fate, but he wasn't willing to give on the clan he had once ruled just yet.
[BTW, i'm not really against the changes but Goldenstar would be furious]
Barrenfrost's eyes darkened, "My friend Leatherfern has become leader and he's not fit for such a job. He's a good tom, but he's not a good leader. He turned his back on StarClan and has started sacrificing cats to false Gods! These cats lives should be sacrificed through the battles WinterClan inflicts upon others, not for the sake of glorifying a false idol. The medicine cats are treated like some kind of royalty now instead of the submissive servants they once were. The tides are changing and they'll soon flood out all of WinterClan if someone doesn't try to stop him! What should I do? I... I don't want to kill him, he's not a bad guy, just a bad leader," Barrenfrost confessed.
But he knew if he must, he would have to assassinate his friend. Still he hoped to find some other resolution... Somehow.

"You already know what must be done" came the hollow reply. It was clear to see that Barrenfrost knew exactly what needed to be done, but could he admit it to himself? Goldenstar loomed over him, his gaze unwavering. It would take great courage to stand up to a leader, even more so should your consider that leader a friend. If Barrenfrost truly wished to return WinterClan to greatness, he must face his deepest fears and show a resolve and wisdom that few lacked.
"If you truly wish to save WinterClan from it's demise, first answer me this. A simple lowly warrior meets three cats upon a road. A medicine cat, a leader, and a hero, all of which are in an argument. Each begs the the warrior to slay the other two. The medicine cat claims that StarClan has sent a sign the the other two are wretched and must killed. The leader orders the traveler to slay the other two. The hero claims that by slaying the other two, they can bring the clan back to greatness. So tell me, who lives and who dies?"
"Uhhh, I should kill all three to be safe? Though let's see... Medicine cat wants hero and leader dead. The leader wants the medicine cat and the hero dead... And the hero wants the medicine cat and the leader dead. Soooo I guess if I had to choose it would be the hero, but I think I'd just walk away, like no one's just going to let me kill them, especially if I'm a lowly warrior, right?" He asked, "Or am I lowly, but like super muscular?"
He was never good with metaphors or stories. Or really anything that didn't require brute strength.

Goldenstar shook his head, honestly a bit disappointed in the tom's response. He didn't seem to understand the riddle, nor the meaning behind it. "You see the true answer lies within the warrior and their beliefs. Perhaps the warrior is afraid of the consequences of disobeying the leader and so they kill the other two. Perhaps the warrior wants more than anything to get into starclan, so the save the medicine cat. Perhaps the cat seeks the approval of their hero, and slays the other two for their approval. True power lies where the clan believes it lies. Without the clan believing in your power, you will never be able to take over the clan, much less hold on to it for moons to come"
Barrenfrost squinted his eyes at Goldenstar. Clearly everything the leader said went right over his head, they could practically hear the air carrying the thought far from Barrenfrost's mind.
"Uhh... Could you maybe... Repeat that. Slower. In a different way? Or maybe just say what you actually mean?" Barrenfrost asked, scratching his head a bit.
He sat down hunching his shoulders over mumbling to himself in an attempt to figure it out, "Cause if the warrior... What did the warrior want... No.. Wait," He suddenly lifted himself up in realization, "No I get it! It just was a riddle that had literally no answer was based on opinion. Wow Goldenstar, that... That's not how riddles work. Like sometimes I'll ask people, "What's shivering and red all over?" And then I'm like, "You in five minutes!" And then I attack them. But like. Mmm. Anyways should I just like slit his throat open or what?"
He seemed to be looking at Goldenstar as many living cats did with the dead, confusion and desperation. He didn't seem particularly angry at his fathers confusing word play, but didn't understand why he couldn't just give him a yes or no answer. Though the way he was looking at Goldenstar now was a look that just wanted approval or disapproval.

[ invades thread to loudly disprove of the murder plot of leatherstar by his best friend and body guard in angry disapproving dolphin cries eeek eeek eeek eeeeeeeek lol carry on ]
(I'm pretty sure Barrenfrost will be like, "I gotta do it... But I'm gonna give my buddy the best day ever!" And then he takes Leatherstar on an amazing day out and says good-bye only to realize he totally didn't kill him. And so it'll go on until Barrenfrost comes in and is like, "Leatherstar, I just can't be frozen anymore. I can't take all the murder attempts"
Leatherstar: What murder attempts? Barrenfrost: That's what makes this so hard. I kept attempting to murder you, but turns out I totally dig you... IN A FRIEND WAY! But yeah, you and me. This murder attempt. It's just not working out.
And I mean, who knows how Leatherstar would even respond to that because Leatherstar probably thinks things are going great on account of how much Barrenfrost randomly wants to hangout with him in secluded locations and you know, he'd probably start getting the wrong idea about Barrenfrost xD)
