Her eyes slid lazily across the waters surface as she watched waves hit the surface of the lake one after the other. It was windy this afternoon and she shivered softly as the cool breeze hit her many scarred patches of skin who had been furless for so many seasons she had gotten used to it. It had been a long time since Destiny slept in Summerclan's camp, she had always made others uncomfortable with her previous league association so she had formed a makeshift nest not far away from the camp. It was a bit lonely at times and cold but it helped harden her and get her used to the harsh weather of leafbare, making these gentle chills like kit play. Now that she was growing older and realized she had watched much of her adopted clan be kitted, grow, and die, she wondered what was left for her here. She was eternally grateful to those who tolerated her presence but that was all - tolerated. She missed the firneds she had made as a trainee of so long ago. The miskoinducts had treated her as one of their own and in particular she thought of the young tom, Logan-kun. She wondered if he grew up well, if he had a mate or kits long after she was gone, and how the rest of them had faired and if any of them remained alive. It was a painful thing to outlive everyone you once knew but she had grown numb and accustomed to the fact. She had seen four leaders now in her time in Summerclan and two other cruel leaderships in her time before. "When did I get so old?" She asked to nothing in particular, allowing a deep and genuinely laugh to burst from her.
"Oh, come now, sweet Destiny," a rumbling velvety voice echoed from beside her. The orange tabby slunk from the shadows to stand before her, golden-green eyes observing her with the light of amusement dancing in their appraising orbs. "You have no room for such talk. We're time's kin; your words reflect upon myself, as well." He sat down and curled his tail around his paws. "I take it whatever thought process overwhelmed you was enough to distract you from my approach. Why?"

She couldn't help but chuckle softly. "I do not fear who, or what, might sneak upon me from the forest's edge. I am still an excellent fighter, even in light of these much younger cats. I was simply distracted by remembering. I have had a long life, much of it was spent here in Summerclan but my youth was spent in the league. The hard part of growing old is watching those who don't die. There are cats that I miss and some that I don't." The black she-cat was small for a full grown cat even but her claws were still sharp and deadly.
Labyrinthiansoul resisted the urge to yawn; he detested monologues, although if he'd given himself enough time to think back, he was guilty of monologuing himself. Perhaps it was simply that others bored him and annoyed him immensely. He wasn't exactly a social butterfly, no matter what others liked to think and say. "And it always seems that those we care for leave us the fastest and those who want dead stick around the longest." He nodded his head. "I know that feeling." He wasn't, at all, thinking of Tybalt. In what category did the black and white tom fit? He still didn't know. "My sister and nephew, for example, drive me insane. Sometimes I wish they'd just disappear." He sighed. "But they don't."

"Mm, my siblings and I used to physically fight each other because we couldn't stand each others' presence. The league was far too small for all seven of us monsters." She had been quite something when she was young, always up to something and getting in to fights. She had thought she was the best tracker who had ever lived and if Haku had not been there to terrorize her she likely would have thrived within the league. ""We don't get to choose family and sometimes even our friends. I will admit one of my biggest regrets was never having a family of my own." She wasn't sure what made her say that, but there was a deep sadness about it. Summerclan had helped her grow calm and soft and with that she had watched many queens give birth and many kits grow up and for the first time recently she had been jealous of these queens as she watched them gleam with pride at ceremonies.
"Sorry, I tend to ramble these days. Tell me if I'm getting boring, I won't be offended." Not everyone was chatty and for the most part she hadn't been for almost her entire life. As she was growing nearer and nearer to old age she was growing more and more chatty. Or maybe it was Summerclan's atmosphere? She couldn't say for certain.
He harrumphed. "You're not boring. You're just like every other female who eventually longs to have little ones to bug her endlessly. I've never understood the attraction to the little trolls. I find them to be quite a nuisance. At least until they're older and can understand proper communication. All of the crying and the screaming... how do you know if they need to use the dirt place or eat or take a nap?" He shook his head. "It's too much work, too many restless nights." He tilted his head. "I've fathered in my time, yes, but I don't stick around. Not to slight the queen, of course, no; what fun we had was good in its time. But those kids..." He shook his head. "I suppose I'm among the many who should not carry on my name through offspring."

She couldn't help but hear the irony in his words as he spoke with the knowledge she held. They hadn't really known each other and she didn't expect him to stick around. "Truthfully I saw them the same way in my younger years but now that I'm getting old.... I actually thought I might be too old to have them but here is where the irony lays. I'm carrying kits." She spoke simply, looking out over the lake. She didn't see a point in hiding it since he had fathered them but she was actually relieved to know he wouldn't expect anything more from her. "I wasn't sure if it would be right to tell you or not but somehow hearing you don't expect anything from me... I decided you should at least know so you don't have a sudden surprise in the future or misunderstand me."
When her bombshell had first dropped he'd found himself wanting to laugh and ask who the unlucky tom was. He quickly gained his answer though and the news had his skin prickling underneath his orange pelt. Not more. No more. He already had a batch that he had to handle and an eldest son that absolutely despised him. Oddly enough he found himself wondering if these new children... if they would like him. If they would tolerate him and perhaps want to spend time with him, unlike Astralascension. He had made many mistakes with his eldest, including bringing the tom into the world in the first place, and it had created the obvious rift between them. Though Labyrinthiansoul didn't care for kits in the slightest and found them ceaselessly annoying, he was getting older. Family would, one day, be the only thing he had and he was running low on them. Judging by her defensive demeanor and her words, however, she wanted him to have no part in their lives. And he wasn't sure he wanted to, at least not in the beginning. Though that part of him that panicked at the idea of being alone nagged at him, he kept his words back and instead scoffed. "Well. I can't say I'm not surprised. But you're capable of caring for them."

She nodded, her posture relaxing a bit. She hadn't realized how tense or defensive she was until he finished his response. "Of course, you're welcome to visit them and tell them who their father is when they are born. I won't mind, but it's your decision." She didn't know much about him but that he had a history of not being the world's greatest father. In truth, she was equal parts excited and terrified. How many seasons had it been since she slept next to another cat, let alone inside of the camp inside of a nursery? Even as a youngling she rarely spent her days in that den and often slept outside. She wasn't sure how she would adapt to that and taking care of kits on her own, but she would have to.
His amber eyes narrowed. What trick was she pulling with that invitation? If he was to introduce himself to his offspring and reveal the truth, was she to turn around when his back was to her and whisper improbabilities to turn them against him? He clenched his jaw but quickly relaxed himself. This was Destiny. While she could harbor a cold exterior and a hard heart, she was anything but dishonest; she’d proven that today. Where many others would long to hold onto him with such hefty blackmail, she instead laid her cards bare. That told him he could trust her. He nodded. “Very well. I should like to attempt... some form of relationship with them.” He scratched his ear. “Though I admit I don’t have the best track record.”

She held back a smile at his sudden awkwardness and nodded. "You aren't the only one, so I hear. But, if nothing else, Summerclan will have good, strong warriors in the future." She had no doubts that they would survive their early moons and become good strong clan warriors. Destiny wasn't sure if she should give them warrior names or league names, but the she-cat had plenty of time in between to decide that on her own. It seemed as if now her thoughts had moved from the past to the future and it excited her although she didn't want to show that excitement to Labrynthiansoul, even if he was their father.
He nodded, gaze thoughtful as it rested on her. “I don’t doubt it.” This wasn’t entirely true. He did wonder if they’d turn out like Astralascension... the young tom was many things, but a skillful hunter and battle sergeant were not among them. “Especially with you as their coach.” He stood straight, stretching. He felt his presence was being dismissed, despite her not having said anything. “Well. I appreciate your being forthcoming with me.” He dipped his head to her. “I look forward to the outcome.” Turning on his heel, jaw shifting, he nodded to himself and padded back toward camp. Perhaps he’d try and rest; it could quiet the headache threatening to build.

She nodded respectfully towards him as he announced his departure before gazing back out over the lake while softly humming to herself. Things were going to change for certain and she hoped it would be for the better and not the worst. This was Summerclan, she would not be forced to kill one of her kits or to watch them grow up surrounded by abuse and hatred. Things would be different for them and that gave her hope.
