Aylik felt lost, after Tasman's death. Angry and vengeful, and not entirely there. He hadn't really been there since she died, seemingly stuck in a loop of memories with her that kept the grief raw in his heart as he watched her grow up before him all over again. What kind of curse was this that Cauil had inflicted on him? Remembering nearly every detail of his life? Maybe it was useful, at times, but he hated it. Hated that he couldn't seem to escape the memories.
Her relationship with Aylik had once been close. The trio were inseparable – the three musketeers, she liked to once say – but after the events in the E'clair family's history they'd parted unwillingly. At least on her end. And when Tasman had rejoined them and brought her back into the fold... She was beyond happy. Everything had come back together and she finally felt like her life was whole and purposeful. And now...
She nervously walked up to him, occasionally halting as if she was wanting to turn tail and run. She didn't know how he was going to react seeing her. She bit her lip and walked over. "Aylik." She murmured in greeting.

He could remember her face, her determination and her smile, and yet, she was gone. One part of him denied that reality. If he could remember her so clearly, then how could she cease to exist? Until Taikatalvi was right in front of his face, Aylik didn't seem to see her, and once he did, the tom flinched back, eyes wide as he reeled from her appearance that seemed to break to spell holding him captive in his memories. Taikatalvi. She was there too, in vivid detail. But, unlike his sister, she was actually there in front of him, not just a passing memory kept alive by some sort of defect in him that wouldn't let him forget. "Taikatalvi." The tom echoed, his voice distant and dull.
The she-cat paced uncomfortably in front of him. She had hoped she'd be able to draw some sort of light from him, yet he seemed to continue as a shell of who he once was. Swallowing back her nervousness, she turned to sit next to him, glancing at him with a soft look in her gaze. "How are you?" She murmured, trying to maintain the relative peace surrounding them.

She always had been one of the few cats able to pull him from his memories. But even now, as he focused on the feline in front of him, images still replayed in the back of his mind, of his sister, of Taikatalvi, them all as kits, free as could be, or so they thought. "Define okay." Aylik responded hollowly. "Because I'm not sure anything is okay."
She frowned. “I don’t think anyone would blame you for not feeling okay; for not feeling anything other than darkness.” She bit her lip. Did she offer physical reassurance? Did she take the risk of reaching out and resting her tail tip on his back or… No. She’d wait until he was comfortable with something like that. She wasn’t going to make assumptions. “I don’t think anyone would blame you for wanting to try and talk it out, though.” She blinked at him. “Sometimes it can make it feel just a little bit easier.”

Aylik gave Taikatalvi a wan smile, the expression highly strained. "I can barely keep the days straight anymore. I don't know whether it's been days, or season since she died. It feels like an eternity has gone by in my mind." That was his curse. To be able to remember in such detail, but to be unable to escape his own memories in times like these, living in loops of the past, rather than being able to properly move on in the present. How could he move on, when everything triggered a memory of the past, and those memories inevitably included Tasman at one point or other?
The she-cat frowned and turned her head down, staring at the ground again. He had a point. Everything seemed to hold less... meaning since the former tsar had... succumbed to her fate. She could barely think it, let alone accept the reality of the situation. She bit her lip. She couldn't imagine how he was feeling; his entire family seemed distant, Tasman and he seemed to be the closest connected and she was gone. Her heart ached. What was the appropriate thing to say in a situation like this though? I'm sorry for your loss? It sounded so distant, so insincere. She found herself sighing inwardly and wondering: What would Tasman do?
"Maybe... we could distract you for a bit?" As soon as the words were past her lips, she regretted them, but she'd already started digging herself a grave. Might as well lie in it. "If you focus on something else, you may find some relief... even if it's only temporary."
