Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Loki and Thoren have been close friends for some time now, having grown up together. While the black she-cat has had a crush on the tom, she's kept her feelings at bay, locked deep within her heart where they would never see the light of day. Things have become challenging now, though, with the reveal of some crucial information: She's been made Tsar in light of the fall of her mother, Tasman E'clair. She's only a kadet. Or was. She's had no prior experience as a soldier, let alone had political training. Will she survive this course of events or will those who believe they're a better suit for the crown attempt to take it from her by taking her life?
The she-cat inhaled a deep breath as eyes turned to her in the clearing. Rune, the boyar who appeared to have just stepped down, had just announced her promotion. She had only received meager training from her mother, her adoptive mother and Rune himself. How was she to handle an entire clan now that her mother was gone? She wasn't prepared for this and no one had warned her beforehand. Now she faced suspicion, distrust and above all else: desire for power. She'd need to act quickly to cut any mutiny off at the head. She grit her teeth but lifted her chin, glaring at every pair of eyes that gazed at her with barely concealed heat.
Standing, she padded her way to the den of the Tsar – once a place where she shared her time and peace with Tasman, Elora and her brother Kolya – and entered it, needing time alone. She bit her lower lip to keep it from quivering and sat down, staring at the large nest that she had, at one time, shared with her family. With the promotion of her brother as Curate and the loss of her parents, though... this big den was all hers. It was the loneliest she'd ever felt and for the first time since she'd discovered the truth of her parentage, she wanted to cry.

He had know the she-cat forever. They had grown up alongside each other and Thoren, who had been long estranged from his mother, had found comfort and solace in her as a friend. The others may not have seen the flash of panic, fear, and surprise in Loki's eyes at Rune's announcement, but he had. He knew her well enough to be able to distinguish her body language and he had given her a bit of time and allowed the cats to disperse before following her to her den. He was just a Voiny, after all, and now she was the Tsar, not just his friend Loki the Cadet any longer.
The large tabby paused at the entrance of her den to allow her privacy and the right to deny his company. "Loki?" He called out to her in his deep voice, his tone remaining neutral and quizzical. He would let her decide if she wanted to tell him how she was feeling or her thoughts and wanted to ensure she knew that he supported her.
She had been struggling with her breath, the pounding of her heart deafening in her own ears. Did they hear it? Those royal families that were undoubtedly plotting how they would take over... did they hear her weakness? She grit her teeth and shut her eyes tight, internally screaming for it to quiet down. The panic only increased tenfold.
Hearing the familiar tom’s rasping voice, however, soothed her worries for a fraction of time. Thoren. She knew Thoren. She liked Thoren. She trusted Thoren. Inhaling a deep breath and enveloping herself in his familiar scent — and then quickly the fading acents of her mother, Elora, her birth mother, Tasman, her brother, so close and yet so far — a whimper escaped her. And in such moments as these, it wasn’t surprising what she did next.
Lashing out, she secured a paw in the tom’s leg and hissed. “Get in here!” She snarled, glancing through the lichen covering the den entrance at the dispersing crowd below. No one had been paying much attention. Good.
Sniffling, she nuzzled her face into his chest, giving him no time to settle in. “Thoren, what am i gonna do...”

He couldn't help but be surprised at her sudden aggression melting into a warm embrace as she showed him her vulnerable side. This wasn't a common occurrence, she was always so strong and confident but behind the lichen she was a young cat who had no clue what to do.
He gave her a few, gently licks over the top of her head between the ear in a smooth and rhythmic fashion. "You'll figure it out and you're not alone." He whispered between licks, resting his cheek on her head. "I've known you my entire life and I trust you. Everyone else may not know how to feel yet but they will soon because you will be a wonderful tsar." Even he knew that she had a right to the tsars flower crown and to that position. Beyond that, he genuinely believed she would be a strong and amazing leader for Brookclan.
She lifted her head to gaze into his eyes, her own green ones round with hope. These were the times when she let her guard down; he could say anything and she'd take it to heart as the truth. It was a tenuous tightrope to traverse. Her eyes quickly clouded, though her vulnerability continued to make her look far younger than she felt. "What if I'm dead before that happens?" She turned her head down and walked over to the nest, curling up into it and burrowing her nose in the moss, trying to seek the comfort of Elora's scent. Her heart gave a sickening ba-thump that had bile rising in her throat. "I couldn't fend off House Sterling or House Harlow. We already have such strained relations with both of them..." She lifted her head and looked at him. "I'm only a kadet. I don't know how to do this."

Thoren felt a strong desire to growl building in chest chest as his throat at the mention of them. "There is not such thing as just a Cadet. You are more than just a Cadet and I will RIP the throat out of anyone who even suggests your death." His tone was firm and his eyes held a seriousness about them. Thoren was a very large tom and there was a deadly power behind his paws and bite. Loki was someone he had always cared for and wanted to protect and that only made him stronger and more deadly to any who dared to stand in his path.
The tabby tom had long ago realized that the feelings he held for her were more than friendship, there was a deep and fierce love in his heart for the black she-cat and he would protect her at any cost. Without her, he would feel lost and directionless. They always said home was where the heart is and she had become his home even if he never intended to reveal his love for her.
He continued to speak to her after only a brief pause, "If you want it, you have my help. You are no longer a cadet, or even a Dvoryane, but you are my Tsar and you have always been my friend. I understand you are scared but you are not alone."
Her gaze upon him was wide and innocent, but within he stirred something that caused her to slowly regain her confidence. She faced each and every day with a cool collected attitude that would rival even the most adept and sage soldiers. She had faced off against mated foxes, had dealt with the harsh blows of losing not only her mother but both of her parents, and had been promoted to Tsar all in the same fragment of time. She was more capable than she realized. But still there was that voice, so small and nervous in the back of her mind, that wondered if she'd survive to see the next moon. Everything depended on her now. The load upon her shoulders had tripled and it was relentless. There would no longer be a break given for the uphill battle; she was in it for the long run and at the end of the day would receive no help for it. She inhaled a deep breath to calm her hummingbird heart. It was a lot of responsibility to place on the small back of a kadet, yes, but she was no ordinary kadet. She was an E'clair and the daughter of an honorable soldier, even if she knew nothing else about Tasman. She lifted her head, her gaze steely with renewed confidence.
"Thank you, Thoren." She murmured, her voice coming out much softer than her hard expression. "I don't know what my life would be like without you... infinitesimally abysmal, no doubt." She smiled a bit. "I'm glad to have your friendship. Something tells me..." she trailed off. "I won't have much of it from anyone else from here on out." She finished in a distant murmur.

That regained confidence in her eyes told him that she would be okay. He knew that his words could not give her the understanding or direction she needed from here, but he hoped that in the very least she did not feel entirely alone and that soothed a piece of him, even if only a tiny bit.
"Of course, I will always be here when you need someone. Do not worry about those who would talk bad of you or slander you because they are just jealous and they are not the kind of cats you need to be your true friends. They will see soon enough that you are not some defenseless Kadet whose paws need to be held. You are strong and brave. They will see that." He rubbed his cheek along hers softly, a sign of companionship and trust from him. He may not be her mate and he may one day have to watch her take a mate, but he hoped that their friendship would always remain and only grow stronger.
"Why don't we go out for some air? This den is feeling a little stuffy, in my opinion." He figured it might be good for her to go out and clear her mind instead of hiding away in a dark den. Plus, she did not have to speak if she didn't want but exercise had a way of organizing thoughts like nothing else.
Loki gave a soft purr, both of amusement and great gratitude for his offered comfort. She straightened her back and inhaled a deep breath. "That sounds..." she relaxed with a small smile. "Really good, honestly." She glanced at him, a soft light in her eyes. She'd had a crush on him for some time now; perhaps not as long as the tom had discovered his feelings for her, but she'd noticed it a moon or two ago. The way her heart seemed to skip a bit when he smiled at her or the way she felt warm and safe simply by being at his side. She felt she could take on the world and reign victorious as long as she had Thoren. She had never felt that way about anyone, even her own family; it was new and strange but she welcomed it all the same, even if it did scare her.
Slipping through a back entrance of the den so as not to be seen, she padded along a hidden path into the territory, turning and looking back at him. Of course she expected he would follow. "Where do you have in mind?"

"Mm," He pondered her words for a few long seconds before realizing that he really didn't have an answer to her question, "I'm not sure. I was just going to pick a stream and follow it a ways." The tabby admitted, walking closely to her. Most Voiny would not dare to be so close and comfortable with a noble, especially not the newly named Tsar, but it was different with her. His heart didn't beat the same when he was around her and he had quickly been informed by The Vrachi that he was a fool for even asking why his heart raced for no reason sometimes.
Loki hummed. She had many favorite places out in the Monarchy’s land, a place she fondly liked to call ‘the kingdom’. It was her kingdom now, though, wasn’t it? She swallowed. Maybe she could leave her crown behind... just for this. But no. It would be blasphemous not to. “Why don’t we go to the abandoned twoleg nest? We could snoop around and then maybe head over to the border by the twoleg place, y’know where they all gather and the monsters roam. I’m up for a bit of adventure.” She was a dedicate of Devonei, yes, but she couldn’t be serious all the time; especially with Thoren. It felt unnatural. “Just... Wait here a minute.” She nibbled her lip nervously. She had a role to uphold; she was the figurehead for the clan now, she needed to look the part. All of the tsars before her had played their role without fail and hadn’t broken character once. She wasn’t about to break that ritual. Sliding back into the den quickly, she grabbed her crown and hurried back out, nightlock and wolfsbane coronet held delicately between her jaws. It was a highly poisonous adornment and needed to be treated very delicately; both for its preservation and her health. She nuzzled it atop her head and sighed, making sure there were no remnants in her mouth. “Alright, I’m ready.”

He waited patiently for her to resurface and smiled as she came back with her crown, placing it on her head carefully. "It looks nice. I think it suits you." He couldn't help but stare at her for just a few moments. It was a sudden moment, but he knew she was made to rule. She looked so confident, regal, fierce, and beautiful all at the same time and the reality struck him for a few moments. He slowly came back to the present moment and smiled before tilting his head in the general direction of the twoleg place. "Shall we?"
She blushed harder than she'd like to admit by his praise, glancing away from him for a moment before smiling sheepishly. "Thanks. Alright, cheeseball, let's go!" Launching into a dash, she glanced behind herself to check on the tom's position before chuckling and picking up the pace. That was one of her many successful avoidance tactics; change the subject, do something unexpected, be the unpredictable. Don't let him know just how much it affects you.

As always, the topic shifted and she dashed ahead of him. He smiled after her, a hint of longing in his eyes for a brief moment, and dashed after her. He was a very large cat so he was slower but he managed to catch up in a reasonable amount of time. "Don't think you'll win forever!" He called to her.
She grinned, throwing her mischievous smile back at the tom. They continued to wind through the forest until she stopped at the haunted brook, the large body of rushing water soothing to her ears, and panted for breath. It was a long run but one that she needed desperately; in the back of her mind, as a random thought, she was surprised her crown hadn't fallen off. She glanced back, expecting to wait for the other, but it wasn't long before he was right on her heels and she laughed as he skid to a halt. "Told ya I'd win!"

"Only because you had a head start!" he argued with a grin, skidding to a halt besides her. "Do you feel better now?" He asked, gently bumping her shoulder with his own.
