Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
(I don't see a joining thread but I'll add her once one is up c:)
Aspen shifted from paw to paw, nervous at the sight of a cat approaching. She knew she was well out of bounds, across the fence that signaled the group's border with the city. She's weighed the risks and found that she might be safer here, at least here she stood a chance at life. The city held nothing for her now. The pretty calico she cat scanned the feline approaching her, but with the sun behind them she wasn't able to pick out many details. The sun. Her golden gaze narrowed against it's bright rays. This was it, her back to the fence. What would this stranger decide to do with her?
The stranger's Bengal coat glittered in the dying sunlight as she prowled up the street. Her hazel optics settled on the she-cat long before she could actually see her. Not that she needed it, but her subordinates had forewarned her of the cat's arrival. The city's abundant structures made creating an information network simple, or at least worthwhile to maintain for the time being. As she neared the newcomer her authoritative demeanor became abundantly clear. "Give me one good reason to not flay you where you stand and feed your remains to the dogs."
"Mom who's that?" It was that moment that the black kit poked his head around his mother's leg and peered up at the stranger with curious, icy eyes. "Hush!" Aspen whispered harshly, using her fluffy tail to both shield and press the long kit back behind her. The calico turned her gaze back to the unknown feline, the sun again forcing her to squint. "I don't really have a reason but if you do at least don't do it in front of him." She was trembling but she didn't shrink under the other cat's stare.
A smirk grew on the stranger's face as the fear coursed through Aspen's fragile body. She never tired of seeing lovely shivers of fear. The black figure between the newcomer's legs caught her eye, so they shifted to the ball of fluff that she held so dearly. "You do have a reason. It's that little thing you're trying to hide from me." She lowered herself to the street to look into the kitten's innocent eyes. "He has a place here, but you...", she slowly rose to her paws as she sized up the mother. "You will not be as lucky. That is, unless you can surprise me." She wrapped her tail around her paws. "First, names. Mine's Nemesys."
"You're right." Aspen confirmed, her gaze flicking to the kit then back to the cat. Nemesys. She knew the name, from whispers. The chances of her finding the Heda the second she crossed the border.. she was either very lucky or very unlucky. "I'm Aspen and the little one is Alder." They were simple street cats, escaping an abusive situation the only way the she cat knew how. "I will do my time in your ranks, whatever that might entail. It couldn't be worse than what I've come from. I simply need him to be safe."
Alder poked his head around his mother's tail, pale eyes peering at the Heda curiously. Even at a young age he recognized this cat wielded authority like none other. He'd be lying if he didn't say that it sent shivers down his spine, out of both fear and excitement.
She chucked and shook her head ever so slightly. The Charged were not very poorly off at the moment, but she had plans for them. "Of course you will, all for the good of the little one." She rose to her paws and walked forward until she could whisper into her ear. "I hope you know the kitten not be yours, per say. He will the Coalition's kitten before he is attached to you, at least in the more official sense." The Heda prowled back to where she was prior before beckoning them to follow.
She dipped her head in confirmation. If only the Heda really knew how loose her claim on the suckling behind her was, but that wasn't something that needed to come to light now or ever. Without another word she nosed Alder to follow in front of her. While she had lived most of her life in the city, these streets and abandoned buildings till unnerved her. Too many shadows and places that one might hide.
As submissive as this Aspen seemed, Nemesys wanted to see if she had any use as a combatant. She knew one of her subordinates was bound to be nearby and could take the kit away for some time. It did not have to be long, but the kit did not need to Nemesys fight his mother. The she-cat snorted when a small, golden triangular head poked out from one of the dying shrubs lining the street. The young tom was not her first choice... but he would do. "Rae'el-kedi, come here and take this kitten back to the church, where you should be." The kitten frowned but solemnly nodded and approached Alder as if Aspen was not even there. "Come on chubby-cheeks. Boss lady gets what boss lady wants."
Aspen fought to keep her silken pelt in place but a lashing of her tail betrayed her. Separated was not what she wanted to be from the kitten beside her, "We'll make our way to the church eventually as well?" She questioned the Heda and eyeing this other kit wearily.
Aldar too was peering at this kit, but not with the distrust his mother was. Another kit? He's never been around another cat his age before. He was almost giddy with delight, even when he was called chubby cheeks. The sleek coal pelted tom really was anything but, none the less he wouldn't argue, if he argued the other kit might think him annoying. He walked towards Rae'el-kedi without any further hesitation, a simple glance back at his mother and a parting smile to show everything would be alright. He'd yet to figure out there was bad in the world. He's learn soon enough though.
Nemesys heard her question, but simply did not answer the she-cat. After giving Rae'el-kedi a firm nod of thanks she kept walking and the Heda expected the mother to follow with an explicit order. What better way to push Aspen than to deny her access to her kit? Once the two were out of earshot of the kits the Heda broke the silence. "Frankly, I don't think you belong here. Your kit certainly does, so I am going to make you an offer. If you leave now and never return, I will personally train Alder when it is his time."
The kitten was not thrilled to be escorting the other kitten back to the church with him. It was nothing against Alder, but he hated the place. He sighed as they walked and turned to face Alder. "So, what's ya name? If ya haven't heard, mine's Rae'el-kedi."
Aspen sighed inwardly. Nemesys assumed she knew nothing of this group. The calico however wasn't going to offer the heda any more information than necessary. "I was under the impression that the heda would only train the general's kits?" She blinked, confusing flickering in her eyes.
"Aldar." The silken black kit mewed, crystalline blue eyes scanning the area around them as they passed. "Was that your mom or..?" He trailed off. He wasn't sure what else she could be to the kit, the only she cat he'd been around was his mother.
"For the most part that is true, but I don't limit myself to them. While those kittens often have plenty of potential, they're almost always arrogant. I'd rather have some normal combatants train them and stomp the plague out of their heads for me." Her tone was like ice as she spoke of the privileged kittens. "I'd rather train cats that have real potential."
"No, thank Wanheda. Someone just kinda left me here awhile back like I don't even remember it. Like, it's the only home I know but it's like not my real home. Ya know what I mean." He slowed down and start to lead the kit towards the alleys. He was still returning to the church, but he would have some fun with it.
Aspen simply shrugged. "I think I can make it in your group, I've survived worse." She tilted her head, waiting for the heda's reaction. This cat she could face if it meant keeping Alder at her side.
The kit tilted his head, much in the same manner of his mother. Still he followed.
"I don't know that. I don't know, or care, where you came from. You're the same as everyone else, Charged." The rank was not typically an insult, by the Heda despised the cats that claimed the position. She did not deny their necessity, but they were a net drain on the group's productivity.
Rae'el-kedi huffed and rolled his eyes when he saw the kitten's expression. "So I guess ya don't. I'm not from 'round these parts. I just live 'ere."
